Prestiges?
#1
I've done a little digging around in the forum, and it appears that Prestige applications are currently closed pending a review/overhaul of the Prestige system, as posted a few weeks ago. Bearing that in mind, I have a couple questions that I hope are general enough to be answered, and if not then perhaps these points can be considered during the development of the new system.

First and foremost, what are the benefits to having a Prestige title, beyond just being able to say you're a certain class rather than the usual base classes? Eg, gladiators to warriors, assassins to rogues, beastmasters to hunters, etc. Can warrior classes not have had any experience as a gladiator, without being subject to the prestige process? Can rogue classes not have been trained to use their guile and stealth to the ends of assasinating someone, without first going through the prestige process?

Do you have access to any new abilities when you are granted a prestige, or are you allowed to use some that you might not have previously, as in the case with mages and paladins where they can't cast their strongest mechanical spells in RP terms, whereas a prestige might perhaps be able to?

Keeping in mind the application process is allegedly due to change, what is needed to earn a Prestige? I'm assuming a thorough background storyline thread, as per the past and current requests I have seen, is a requirement that will not be retired, so I'm going to work one in Word until the application process is open to new submissions again. I'm guessing there will be an application form to fill in on top of that?

For the first question, the benefits often include a bonus to combat related skills. I know in my case, I always take prestiges into consideration during RP fights, among other things unique about your character. True, a warrior could have experience similar to that of a gladiator, and a rogue can be fairly skilled in assassination, but going through the prestige process ( which goes into your next question ) gives you abilities that make you all the more better in that area.

Now, I'm a firm believer that you should play your class as Blizzard gave it to you, which means if you have access to a spell, whatever it is, the core class should be allowed to use it within reason. A prestige adds on that what you already have access to, so yes, you definitely get a wider range of abilities and improve core abilities as a prestige.

We haven't finished anything about the prestige system yet, but it does seem likely that we're keeping IC training posts and IG training by a user with that prestige. For more information on possible changes to prestige classes, see this!

So, wait a moment, I've been wanting to make a prestige for a while now, but should I wait to start posting the training posts until the system is finished?

Well, to go one step further, under the current system everything you post must be first approved by a staff member. So, even if we were accepting applications, you would still have to wait until one of us gave you the thumbs up on each post you submit!

Quick check! I'm assuming that with the new system, the rule of one Prestige Class character per user is remaining unchanged?

That may very well be an incorrect assumption. I would wait to see the new details before you make any plans, though.
Have you hugged an orc today?
