Prestiges and Powers Thereof

I'd agree, fear is something not present in most of the characters. I was in an event where we were put up against a black dragon. Now anyone, safe for the bravest of heroes would run at the mere sight of a dragon and I only have 1 character who isn't afraid of facing dragons and even he makes sure the odds are in his favour. Needless to say we didn't kill the dragon.

But I suppose this counts for prestiges as well, a fel-sworn would send the average soldier running for his mommy, a demon hunter would send the average warlock running as well. It's just that I rarely see a display of fear, which is a shame because it makes good rp.

I think that really hits the nail on the head.

Most people want to play the hero on the server. They want to be the one who laughs at fear and scoffs at danger. And a lot of people glorify this when they call the characters "badass" or "fearless." More then anything, they also want to be the one who can say they killed a big bad prestige.

Which brings us to why people are hunting our ilk down!

Well, not my Fel Sworn. People are hunting her down because she's just not a nice person.

That's one of the things I love RPing in Anna. She's easily freaked out. Therai, after as many times as she's seen her, still weirds her out. I probably didn't RP the fear factor so much last time I RPed with full strength Marianna since I had to handle Navren. >.>

Fear can be rather comedic too. I had a gnome win a battle against a troll before and even though he didn't hit her once she still was rather in tears and begging for him not to kill her.

But that's a bit of a derail, isn't it.

By the way, I am curious how the runemasters are going to be treated when they're done with their training?

<-- would be scared of a Runemaster, as well, although not as much.

Anyways, yea, fear should be played more. I'll try to do it more on my people.

That event it was a Black Drake, not dragon, but still a drake would scare people or at least most people. The troll gladiator Mokaku though he was afraid but he noted he was not showing it from his combat training, he was prestige and he knew that fear was a weapon of such a beast.

Point remains, felsworn should at least phase people at their lowest levels of power, and should be making people run in fear at their highest as they walk seething felfire melts the very ground near them into ash-like fel infused earth.

While a demon hunter should be something only those who are insanely brave should even think of slaying. Tavren and the White Sun are trying to increase power that way they can perhaps challenge Navren and any other goody two shoes. But they know they need more power or they will die without a chance of victory.

And we should remember at the moment the prestige system is down because it is being reworked and we should wait about worrying about how strong some things are until you know, the new information is out or whatever occurs. This entire conversation is based off common sense. Do not screw with people obviously more powerful than you.

I think its kind of a self perpetuating problem. There are a lot of badass fearless characters about, and if you play a character who shows a hint of fear at, say, the approach of an evil character, 100 fearless heroes will jump in the way to "help". Its all well and good if your character would do that but its a bit annoying that total strangers will constantly jump to my aid and the aid of others the instant things start to get interesting, and slowly strangulate the rp of anything interesting as it becomes yet another pointless combat rp, when it could well have been an interesting RP. People need to realise you might not be doing a player a favour if your constantly saving their character, you might just be stifling their voice as you stand in front of them to RP for them. This happening puts me off, and makes me want to play a character with no fear, cause then i wont be smothered by heroics.

I think Marianna is quite the dandy Mandy :>
Except sometimes she scares me :P

But in all seriousness I don't think I'm going to accept any character warnings on Astus anymore, should he once again breathe...
...because I have bigger plans for him at the moment and honestly, another death will just be...
Yeah.

edit: And also, I must agree with Kimee. The other day someone whispered me saying that their character was going to try and mind control Astus to have him kill himself.
For no logical reason-- in fact we were sitting in the Booty Bay tavern! I was a bit perturbed.

(You're right, it is fun, :D)

Well, dude, last I heard, they weren't a yes or no thing. They were a warning. Get out of here, or my character will attempt to kill you. Not Hey, can I kill you?

But yea, it's why I prefer trusts.

They are Danalthar, but previously I thought it to be unfair to refuse a c/w because it would stop and break up any RP, which en-saddened me. But no longer...

You shouldn't be able to refuse it. It's a warning, not a y/n question.

Refusing a c/w = leaving the situation

I do wonder if actually trying to conceal one's prestige ICly and reserving it for when the time is needed would help alleviate this problem? I've seen many prestige characters be quite blatant about their role, leaving no mystery.

I think we're missing the point a little here.

Sure, you can fight indiscriminately, with or without a character warning. However. My suggestion was just that people actually agree to the bonuses (or lack thereof) they'd be giving to prestiges before playing out anything truly dangerous to the characters. Pretty simple. And it makes the OOC discussions about power entirely unnecessary - why would you need to argue over something you'll be negotiating privately every time?
