Khem-Nephris [Nerubian] [Persistent]

Etmosril Wrote:Having said all that, I'm going on the assumption that player characters on CotH will be more accepting of a Nerubian than most NPCs would be. (There's a joke in there somewhere, I just know it.)

We will witness nerbuian interracial love. Watch.

I think it would be dangerous as, unless someone has been deep into northrend, they probably have not even heard of, let alone seen, a nerubian. So they would probably be set upon before they had a chance to say "Stop stabbing meeee!"

Plues, the language barrier. Who is teaching common to a nerubian?

I think with common Blizz's answer is "A wizard did it." I believe everything capable of doing so speaks common.

Brann Bronzebeard and his Dwarves had little to no problem in communicating with Nerubians. Remember, they're exceptionally smart, and would probably be quick to pick up basic words in other languages. Khem-Nephris is decent at speaking in Common, as she's had several years to learn, first from Dwarves, then other races.

I can see player contact with this nerubian going sour very quickly.

The average joe will simply see: SCOURGE.
The seasoned adventurer will also see either Scourge or a very large threat when dealing with the Nerubian.

Why? They're still just like the Aqir and the Silithid.

From Wowpedia:
"Azjol-Nerub contained huge libraries of literature, philosophy, and arcane lore. Occasionally, the kingdom would kidnap humans and elves for experimentation.[9]
Kel'Thuzad claims that they were fiercely intelligent, and their will dedicated to wiping out any who were not like themselves.[10] Much like the aqir.
Nerubians are cruel and xenophobic.[11] Like their silithid relatives are hostile to all races.[12]
Nerubian culture may place great store in longevity; Nerubians encountered at the Sundered Monolith told Brann their ages, and they seemed impressed by his.[11]
Legends tell of the nerubians' using the jormungar as creatures of labor, forcing them to carve massive tunnels through Northrend's subterranean ice and lay the groundwork for the nerubians' ancient civilization.[1]"

The friendly ones you see were only so for purposes of getting some jobs done.

Don't be surprised if CW's get leveled against this character.
Be even less surprised when people want to fight it.

While maybe not welcome among the Alliance, I would think Forsaken would be open to dealing with a nerubian magi, the blood elves could be open to it as well, at least to have a chance to learn more of their magic. In fact, I think the Horde overall would be more open to a nerubian, at least if it shows its good intentions, the tauren are known to be openminded, the trolls less so but they seem to follow the orcs lead at any rate, and I imagine that the orcs would be less phased by a nerubian than your average human peasant would. On the other hand they live closer to the Aqir so that might colour their perceptions.

Edit: As for their evilness, I refuse to believe all of them would puppy-kicking evil-doers, unless they are a hivemind but that doesn't seem to be the case. Most of them certainly would be callous and as xenophobic and I hope Etmosril will take that into account if this gets through. Like all the night elves should be taking into account the kind of culture their characters have been raised in, hehe.

Thanks, Nostra. Point taken.

Anywho. They are very markedly different from the Aquir and Silithid. The Aquir were undeniably evil. The Nerubians, up until their fall, were focused as much on the arts and sciences as advancing their empire. Although they would prey on others given the chance (travelers, or small troops, for example), they barely contacted the rest of the world.
If they had, and they were as terrifyingly expansionistic as the Aquir, then other races would definitely know about them by now.

The idea of Nerubians being honorable and law-abiding isn't far-fetched. For example, take Brann Bronzebeard and his expedition. The two races befriended one another, even though the Nerubians could have easily wiped them out. It's also mentioned in one of the RPG books that they tolerate some travelers as equals, and won't harm them (others aren't so fortunate. But my point stands.)

I'd like to ask that this thread be locked while the GMs come to their decision, to prevent any potential drama.
