What the heck is going on with the rp on this server?
#16
I personally even manage to find quality RP in the dead of night, when it's the server's down time. There's only about fifteen of us that RP then, but still, we make due with what we have. In addition, if you see a person RPing poorly I personally think it's up to YOU, the more experienced player, to help guide them down the right path. You can't just berate a newcomer and expect them to listen to, muchless do what you rant at them for.

If you're looking for epic storylines and such, I suggest finding a few other like-minded people. When it comes down to it, most of the people here on the forums also want interesting non-Bay RP. Why not ask around or post a Personals ad on the forums?

Find some people you like who have good storyline ideas. Hang out with them, introduce a few characters of yours, and see where it goes from there. I met -all- of my favorite CotHite pals this way. It won't work all the time, but at least you'll know more people, and you can always try again.

Hawk Wrote:I can't really see the point to this post, if I'm honest. Not as in it serves no use, but... I mean I literally cannot see the purpose of it. Is it to encourage people to have a change of RP? Or is it just a rant about how bad CotH is? It seems to be leaning more towards the latter than the former from what I've seen.

Reading through it, you've only seemed to establish these points:

1) The level of RP "absolutely sucks", in your own words.
2) Too many people loiter and complain on GM Island.
3) All the good RPers apparently do not exist.
4) There are only highschoolers on the server.

I'd really consider putting your argument forward more respectfully, if anything, no matter what it is.

LOL .. while your observations are correct Hawk.- my purpose is in the questions I posed which really have only been addressed by one person so far. I would quote them again but it's probably faster if you just go back and reread. Perhaps you could focus on my questions that i reiterated in my post prior to this one in this thread and you might see differently.

I really appreciate the constructive comments made by Psychyn, Waritine. Roxas65 and a few others mostly because they offered up something more than the 'you just have to look for it.. try harder etc . To be honest, I've tried the suggestions first before even posting here. (including questioning the purpose of the new guild but i didn't want to impose my wants on their goals and opted out gracefully and with an IC reason) I have tried to create a group of likeminded rpers but either the timezone is wrong or they have moved onto other servers which unfortunately is more the case than not. :(

I think Psychyn has said everything I wanted to say but much more eloquently.. partly because I was venting as I was posing my questions. Perhaps it's a culture shift for the server that needs to happen which can only be done by those in leadership but i'm 100% behind helping them. Perhaps GMI needs to become the pariah that BB has become. I'll adjust my expectations and support where I can.

I'm glad I helped, even if it was just a little. And like previously stated, wanna get something going, throw me a PM, or something.

TequilaSun Wrote:and there's nothing that can be done to fix the high school drivel that seems to be taking its place? Am I really only gaming with highschoolers on this server???? Tell me now and I'll be happy to leave you to your fun and move on.

Excuse me? I'm sorry but this is going to sound extremely crass, so brace yourself. How dare you say something so vile? I myself am in High School, as are many of the good RPers on this server that you wouldn't expect. I'm not as active as I used to be, but honestly? You think that High Schoolers can't RP well? We're somehow not eloquent enough to be on par with your high and mighty behind?

Now that I've spent a fraction of my rage, please, step off your high horse and we'll both behave like grown-up people instead of just picking out a group of people and judging them simultaneously like a fool.

Things shift on their own, give it some time. My advice would be to get a group of friends with similar RP interests and such and avoid the people you don't like RPing with. It's worked for me.

And Aphetoros is right, the problem isn't a particular age group on the server. Anyone can be a terribad RPer, and high schoolers can be the best. I'm in high school and I must have managed to show at least the slightest bit of... Something in order to become a Forum Helper. Hell, I know at least a couple of GMs on both CotH and other servers who are also in high school.

I'm not sure replying to him in a condescending tone is particularly helpful for your case, here.

Between this and Aphetoros, I'm going to ask everyone to be civil in this thread, or I will be forced to lock it. Play nice, guys.

Too many replies; didn't read.

In short. I agree with many of the points TequilaSun has pointed out, though. I will never leave CotH, ever. Heck, if it came down to it I would buy it to keep it alive. However, I do have to say that ever since I've joined the server over two years ago, the quality and quantity of RP has plummeted to such an extent that when I log on, I do so knowing I won't get any RP. CotH has become a place where I go to create a character, put together an outfit and sit on GMI. Don't get me wrong, I always try to start RP, and while I do get some good RP every once in a while, I feel as if it has never piqued as well as it used to. I know we have a ton of new players and I welcome them! I just feel rather sad that so many good players have left.

Well, that's about it.
Love you guys! <3

I would invite any to check out these links for a feel of what is going on on CotH...

The Battle for Stonetalon.
As mentioned, the Personals.
This wedding was amazing.
Some narrative posts.

I would like to close with this final thought.

Here's something to think about. When you read a book, you're reading a story about one or two or more characters, usually. These characters are the central focus of the story, and though they may meet other characters, typically the main characters remain the focus of the story. This is a pleasant and useful device in fiction and storytelling, but it doesn't work in real life, and it becomes a bit clumsy when applied to World of Warcraft. Each of our characters are central to their own stories... and everyone else's character is central to theirs. Nobody else loves your character as much as you do. When coming up with a story for your character, remember this. Other people may not get involved. Other people may not care. Other people may not comply. Part of being a mature player is recognizing when your character isn't supposed to be the center of attention. Sometimes other players' characters need to shine, and it is your honor and privilege to stand aside and give them room in the spotlight. Heck, play along. Find a way to fit into THEIR story now and then.

1) Battle of Stonetalon clashed with my schedule, with School and all. Also, it's over.
2) Check there daily.
3) The bride stated explicitly for people not to go, and I don't really feel like sitting in a tavern for two months to get 45 minutes of decent RP.
4 + 5) See 2.

Do you come to CotH as a consumer, looking to gain what you can from it?
Or ARE you CotH, investing your time for the community?

Originally I was CotH, trying to help the community have fun, and still am trying occasionally (even with backing), when I have the time. The amount of failures is funny, considering how, when I was first joining, many people were saying that there weren't enough storylines.

I do give my apologies for being inflexible with those events- While I initially hoped to vary the timeslots, it's unfortunate that your time schedule probably conflicted with -my- school, heh.

I do hope my future events can hit some different time slots, but there's only so late or early I can manage and still be completely sane, heh.
