Well, along my time on CoTH i've had something like three or four forsaken... Though I deleted them after not getting -any- RP with them, at all.

But if you're up for forsaken RP, i'll gladly recreate one of my old characters and go marching down to Tirisfal! Just whisper me whenever you feel like RP and i'll gladly join!

I've had an idea for two Forsaken characters, but to be frank, I don't know what to do with them, and I already have too many alts.

Another problem is that I think that there are a LOT of player characters in CoTH, even with the horde, that just don't like undead... so it makes it harder to rp them.

The same could be said for Blood Elves though. The division between the races in the Horde gets a bit...excessive. Starting to believe there's *too much* racism being played there.

Grak has a point. Even a traditionalist Orcish Horde curmudgeon can still RP with Elves and Forsaken. It's not like they're Humans, right? No matter what your character's feelings, there's nothing wrong with giving other characters time to earn their trust, and RPing a wary individual in the meantime. Even enmity can turn into a lasting friendship with the right circumstances.

Thing is I even found a lot of BElves disliking the presence of my forsaken character. Remember the party we had gone to in Eversong? Trolls and orc death knights were totally okay but as soon as two undead came, well, it was suddenly VERY awkward for the party goers.

I think undead get a ridiculous amount of racism.

Dislikeing undead cant be labeled racism the way disliking an actual race is. The forsaken are a state of being, rather then a race. Blizzard justs calls them a race for the sake of lore and making them into their own player set.

They are, honestly, not a race unto themselves... same as how werewolves and death knights are not -technically- a race... but a class. A state of existence.
They are made up of elves, humans, trolls, ext... that all happen to be dead.
Because a lot of role players are rather logical and put a lot of thought into our storylines, I think a lot of us in the back of our minds realize this no matter how much blizzard tries to call a state of existence a race.

As most forsaken are humans, your talking about a dead -human- attempting to mingle with the horde which makes it slightly more difficult for them. Especially considering that Orcs killed a lot of humans. Its kind of like saying "oh you killed me a while ago but now that I'm dead we can be friends now!" That and most creatures just don't like the state of undeath. Its not quite the same as not liking blood elves, which -is- racism.

Still, I think the whole forsaken and undeath thing can be taken advantage of. Especially on a server where forsaken and humans can talk to each other. (It really didn't make any sense for them to not be able to outside of game mechanics for wow based on the style of game it was.) If people can get over the fact that Death Knights are undead, then some non-alliance characters should be able to work over unease around forsaken too.

Some great RP could be received around some non strict alliance following humans. (Pirate groups and such)

To be fair the 'racism' towards the Forsaken is pretty well earned with events like Wrathgate, and their over all attitude towards the rest of... well the world really. Sure there are some individual forsaken that aren't total A-holes, but a good majority of them do not play well with others to keep things within a PG language rating.

That's just a stock phrase. I just don't treat what NPCs should randomly IC. Otherwise we'd be used to hearing "Death to our opponents, glory to the Sin'dorei" when we go to buy our groceries...

but I digress.

It only bothers me when the racism thing seems to hinder more than help the rp. It also bothers me when it feels OOC. I haven't seen DKs get as much racism for being undead when they were slaughtering powerhouses too. To add to that, DKs seem to have a physiological need to kill where undead do not. So why is it that undead get more hate? I assume it's because they aren't as pretty and able to be used for romance and ERP as DKs.

It may come across as a rant but DKs get less hate than undead. It's like people are judging them on the model! Ever notice you can find a lot more DKs on and rping than undead? I know the racism is justified but I still feel like there's an OOC bias involved.

Well, Death Knights, for the most part, have been rather helpful despite "MURDERRRR!!" being the only thing in their dayplanner. They've pledged loyalty to their original faction and they've also gone slaying Scourge in Northrend, and generally helping out. The Death Knights have done the Horde and Alliance more good in a year or so than the Forsaken have done in nearly a decade. Not that I'm saying there isn't some bias, but you can't really help that. If people don't like something OOCly, then chances are it's going to be the same with their characters.

This, this, this, THIS. My RP server on retail was LOUSY with this type of behavior. The Forsaken roleplayers were especially virulent in their racism against Blood Elves. Most of the time the Forsaken (you know, for the most part former humans) wouldn't bat an eye at an Orc walking by, but I can't tell you how many times my Elf would get the third degree just for bothering to exist. Once an Undead stood behind my character while he was browsing a vendor, and poured on the haterade in Gutterspeak, talking about how he couldn't wait to kill my Elf in all sorts of violent and painful ways, and then ended it up with "Of course, you're too stupid to even realize it." At which point my Elf, who's worked closely with all the Horde races and has at least a basic conversant knowledge of their languages, finally had enough and turned around and said "You know, you shouldn't make assumptions. Maybe you're the stupid one."

I mean, of all the races the Forsaken are likely to be most favorably disposed to, you know, with their leader being a former Elf... you would think they'd at least grudgingly accept Blood Elves. Their goals seem to be the most compatible out of all the allied races of the Horde.

But no. Player hates it, character hates it. I understand it's impossible to separate yourself from your character entirely, and there are plenty of Forsaken around who just hate everyone, but the hate was pretty specific. I wish they would have at least attempted to flesh out their characters as a discrete entity and not an extension of their own likes and dislikes. I fail at it too sometimes, but we should all try.

Anyway... rant over...not directed at anyone here. It just happens to be a pet peeve. :(

Well, why not. I went ahead and made a Forsaken, mostly as a self-deprecating gag though she can be RPed seriously. Look for Imagen ;)
