Grakor's New Feedback Thread
#16
Ooooh, let's see.

When I first -heard- about you, I had some negative feelings. Literally, most of what I -heard- was all the 'mistakes' that were done, how you're a tyrant, blah blah blah.

Now when I've actually -seen- you in game, active around the forums, sometimes in Teamspeak... You're a pretty chill guy. Not like all the crazed rumors I've been hearing for the past two(two? I dunno) years. Now that you're active, I'll echo what everyone said, you're less of 'Big Bad Grakor' and more of "Just Grakor".

As for your characters, I've really only seen Thragash. He's fun to hang out with, I like to think he has some orge blood in him. The role-play with the orcs and Vath was fun while it lasted, while Thragash is all muscle and brutish, he knows restraint. Also, he's just a big softie on the inside, I just know it. After you get past the 600 someting pounds of flesh.

tl ;dr

I have to say I really did enjoy RPing with Thragash during kidnapped. From Doran flashing to prove he had pants and getting his fashion sense questioned, to random pants gift, it was really fun! I shall say that we must arpee more when the chances arise.

At first I was kinda intimidated because of the "AMG ADMIN DON'T MESS UP" factor, but once past that, you're an awesome guy to talk to. I was like "pfft. Afraid of Grak? Why? He's awesomesauce!". And hopefully more peeps can get past that and try to make friends rather than have some sort of standoff.

(unproductive due to posting from the phone. Whiiiiine)

You're a much better person than I am.

I said that earlier, and I did mean it. I think I once thought of our attitudes as being pretty comparable-- I have been, though others may not really have picked up on it, a judgmental, vindictive and remorseless GM when it comes to interacting with others, especially those who I feel have wronged the server or myself. I used to think of you as having a very similar mannerism, but lately you seem to be much more tempered and patient.

And I don't mean that to say that you were doing a poor job before. But I think you're in much better control of your tone and other facets of speech, and I don't know how to phrase that any better than this: I hope my attitude can become more like yours.

As for RP, we should do it more. I've actually been meaning to ask you to take a test run of an event series I am contemplating upon, since I think you might find it interesting.

Lordy do I remember my first days of CoTH and your quote unquote "reputation."

You were portrayed (and indeed, I saw some sour notes myself) as some kind of dark lord and ruler of all that is evil, nonsensical, and downright scary.

My face went something along the lines of this:

I was mortified of you and whenever you were around I mentally "OHSHI-"'d and tried to be on my best behavior. Let me be the 15th or so to say that I believe that you've really matured since then. Where before I was too terrified to really even approach you, now I actually hope that you're the one to review my decisions and private discussion questions. Not a bash at any of the other GMs, it's just you really (I feel) present your arguments in the best light possible and even if I disagree with you, I can sure as hell respect you. This is illustrated by your actions in the Yid'hra fiasco (and that's an adequate description of the event). At the time, it all seemed very frustrating, but looking back you handled my immaturity splendidly and I found myself agreeing with you, albeit grudgingly. In short, you're a cool guy. I can't say much more than that, since we don't RP, but 'tis so nevertheless.

Impressive, Sir!

And up we go, bumping this since I've been more active on the server, especially with Skin Thieves.

Balgarn's changed a bit to make him more RP-friendly. Beyond that, let me know how you think I'm doing, Admin-wise, personality-wise, or RP-wise.

Feh, the hardest part about posting feedback is thinking of how to open it. So...hi!

While none of the characters I've encountered of yours are "bad" at all, I think I may have caught on to a tendency of yours to play orcs as very idealized characters. That is, of the four I've seen. Thragash, Balgarn, Surthak, and Grakor, right? Did I miss one?

And, what do I mean?

Well, they all seem to be perfect loyalists, all vivacious young men. Even Balgarn (at least he used to be, when he lived) and Grakor are quite young. They all seem to be perfectly good guys, only getting mad and violent when necessary, loyal to the end. All that. You also seem to call out orc characters that don't fit into this niche as not "true" orcs. I won't name names here, but it's been two or three, and you might remember them on your own.

What I recommend is to try broadening your RP horizons. Play an orc that has issues with his blood lust, an orc that might find the darker traditions of the old clans intriguing. Maybe an old war veteran trying to find his place in this "new Horde". Perhaps one that wants to return to the isolationism of the clans. The Horde was a Legion creation, after all.

All that aside, it's been nice to somewhat consistently RP with you. Finally. ;p

Oh yes. Feedback.

My good sir, perhaps you should RP with me in general! I've heard good things, many good things (And the dark side as well, but I don't believe it!) Short and sweet, much like the people I choose to hang out with, come rp with me!

A lot of that just ended up being quirks I have, rather than any real attempt at trying to make my characters intentionally idealized. Grakor, Balgarn, and Thragash are all 26 now, simply because that's my RL age and it helps me keep track if someone asks. Surthak was intentionally made younger due to the type of story I wanted to tell with him (idealistic young guy going into warlockry and struggling to remain "himself.") Unfortunately, my memory on numbers is really bad, so I couldn't tell you Surthak's age without looking at it, hence why I usually stick to my own age. If I were assigning ages without that consideration, Grakor and Balgarn would probably be older, but I like to think that Grakor and Balgarn wouldn't be much different if that were the case.

The whole deal about them not getting violent unless necessary is for another quirk. Over time I've come to not be too fond of player conflict, be it due to drama or bad past experience, so I typically avoid it. In one case, the character's passivity and over-cautiousness is an intentional flaw, in the others it's more that I'm adverse to conflict.

I also tend to prefer playing good (as in, alignment) characters, which probably ties into why most of my characters seem to be loyalists. Though, I'd argue that Surthak isn't exactly a loyalist. I've been idly tempted to have Balgarn meet the Black Harvest, just to give him something to do outside of Earthshaker stuff (which I have Grakor for.)

That's not to say that I think you're wrong. My orcs are probably "idealized" in some sense because I try to play them all as both "good" and as true to their race. At the very least, though, I try to make them distinct from one another despite their similarities in that sense, as well as having each be flawed in his own way. What, precisely, do you feel is the problem? Are they too similar? Bordering on Mary-Sueish?

And regarding denouncing other characters: do you mean ICly or OOCly? There's only one character I can think of that I especially dislike because I feel he/she isn't "orcish enough." I'm fairly live and let live that way. There was some feedback I gave Sol a long while ago, if you're thinking of that, and the joke I posted in the Corl/Orv wedding thread, but otherwise I'm honestly not sure what you mean.

Okay, up we go. Ulfarr and Gunnar have been seeing some RP lately. How are they? Ulfarr is an experiment for a different kind of character compared to my usual: how are people liking him?

Thragash has also been getting more attention thanks to the Sable Dragon. Is he still has fun to be around as always?

Any comments on me OOCly?

Leave them!

Okay. Starting feedback is hard when you're half-tired.

Let's start OOC, because that's easier for me. So, I said before in previous threads that you're a cool guy. You're still a cool guy, I don't want you to worry. Just that before, I figured you would be more... serious? I guess? When it comes to OOC while roleplaying. Maybe you care about the roleplay, so you wish people would stop making jokes in party/raid/general and RP. I was pleasantly surprised. You're easy going, and usually the one making the jokes. Of course, you were probably always like that, but I forgot because last time we RPed before the Cata jump was more than a year ago. Probably. Thank you for surprising me.

So Gunnar! He could do with being more outspoken. Having stronger opinions. It doesn't feel like he would speak up about something. If someone started insulting orcs, Varian Wrynn, or (thing), he would just stand there and think about a certain orc's bulging muscles instead of saying "Hey, guy, (thing) ain't that bad." Or maybe he -would- say that, but just wouldn't go further if the guy kept going. Make Gunnar argue for something. Don't let guy claim victory. Debate, Gunnar, even if you're arguing against Matthew "the internment camps weren't that bad" Hunter.

Also, more RP. No doubt my feedback on Gunnar is a result of not RPing much with you. I got a goblin, so I can be Horde, too.
