This bothers me

Grakor actually did what I wanted to before I managed.

I've only recently begun playing a Blood Elf, and it's incredible how much hate and shunning I've received. But! It's only been OOC dislike, none of it transferring into the realm of ICness. It's weird. I'd assume, if I may, that it's just the insecurity of the players' everyday life that forces them to try and 'bully' others. Frankly, I don't think they were completely honest in their applications, and that they don't belong here, but who am I to judge? I used to be annoyed with Blood Elves, too, heck, but I did not call the players out as 'feminists' or something harsher.

Good thayang we're all anonymous here.

If you catch me doing this kind of thing, please tell me off, alright? I mostly do it just to make some good-natured fun of it, but if people are offended by it... Please, I implore you, tell me.

In the start it was fun and funny. Afterwards it got old, unfunny, rather rude, childish, barely even true. I can't say much else that wasn't said already but I guess I agree. However the reason for what happens is more or less groups of people having fun chatting, joking and what not which get carried by the wave of jokes. But that's just my opinion.

It's alright to explain in a peaceful manner why you favour certain races over others, or why you wouldn't play others personally. It's when it goes down into jabbing at the players of your peeved race or making snide jokes that you should step back and keep it to yourself or in a private discussion between you and your friends. You're free to discuss it where not everyone needs to hear it.

Though I'd strongly prefer if we could do something about the frustration itself. That's a long-term goal.

Don't pull everyone over the same edge. Not everyone wants to see how many bad roleplayers you've seen portray their chosen race, or all of the horrible examples you have to share.

This is exactly my problem. If people don't tell me "this isn't fun", then I'll never realize they're bothered by it. So, once again. I need to be told off. :)

EDIT: As a note, this applies to all jokes, not Blood Elves alone.

Yeah... normally can't stand in OOCC for over a minute without someone going out of their way to trot their character over to Aadora just to go "Baaaah"

I think it would be better for all involved if we put those kinds of jokes on the shelf and left them there. It is often the case that the people who are affected by them don't want to have remind others again and again that the negative comments are unwanted, and I doubt a lot of people want to have to speak up at all - particularly not in public, and probably not in private, either. No one wants to be that person who poops the party and brings about an awkward silence, even if the inanity is driving them up the wall.

When in doubt, it's better to save that kind of kidding around for appreciative company, or give it a miss altogether.

While I strongly empathise with the complaint and am truly bothered by the instances of this, (doing my best to sarcasm it out of conversations), I must wonder:

(1. Picking on any person for having an [race], picking on their character or avatar are all of course unacceptable.)

(2. As a personal advice on adequate behaviour, I absolutely endorse what Delta's saying above.)

3. But isn't saying, as a sort of ruling, "Refrain from [race]-hate." a step too far? Doesn't it sound like the beginning to banning a lot of other forms of complaint, since complaint A might bother B, or complaint Z bother X? (I'm not saying that's necessarily happening, but if it did.)

As in, I wonder what happens to the borderline comment of:

"Wow, I really hate people constantly interpreting elves as snotty. Wish people could pull off pride without having to fall into LOL-ELVEN-SUPREMACY-BRUSH-MY-HAIR mode."

Is that one cool or not? Because on the one hand it seems a legit viewpoint, on the other, I do implicitly jab at some people out there.

Yeah, I know. I've mostly avoided Elf-hate recently. Unless I've been on a Blood Elf myself and made fun of myself. :)

I'll quit mocking the Blood Elves if people quit pointing out my bad rolls.

That seems like a legit complaint to me.

But there's a line to making a complaint to jabbing a player/race. I've visited another server which I will chose to leave unnamed. It was a Cata RP server that just anyone could waltz into. I decided to roll a Blood Elf as always. They flamed me, called me a horrible RPer, and started with the Elf hate just because I wanted to play a Belf. They refused to RP with me because of my choice in race.

Come now. We're above this. Now I have yet to see it this extreme on CotH, but this could be what some of our newer players are from. When we start the random jabs with no constructive criticism after, then chances are they can assume we won't RP with them. Dave's example is good to me because it wasn't "X race is so Y", but he offered a bit that could make RP with said race better for him. Someone could chime in and say "I think I can pull snooty without that level/type of pride."

Well Rowgy, in my opinion some people don't tell others to stop making a joke or alike simply because they don't wanna seem rude or even take the mantle of the person that told <Insert name here> to quit his jokes.

But that's just me..

Anyone who dislikes seeing Elves roleplayed should do a session with flammos200.

That is all.
