Testing, testing...

My only fear with the lack of things attracting people OOCly is that people will not hang around and be available for random RP.

Let me get this straight... I should spend all of my money, in character gold, enjoy my fishing chair to the fullest extent possible, and profile all of my characters who do not die horrible deaths durring Deathwing's flight? I was excited, now I just feel like armagedon is coming to COTH lol. Its gonna be a minute, right?

I think the new look, graphics, races, skills, world, gear, rp opportunities and threat of a new, active enemy is worth the change.

Especially as Grakor said, if people want to instance and the like, there are dozens of other servers who specialize in those aspects, since this is an RP server first.

I just don't like change, though a warlock troll does sound nice >.<

Eh. I won't let myself be dragged into another RP vs PvE argument. I'm a believer that the server should have both abilities, and if one or the other is severely broken/limited then I'd rather not see the change just yet.

If the instances don't work, quests are broken. I'll get over it, a half-working Worgen/Goblin (Mind you, half 50% or more.) starting area is a must for racial. If the ability to fly is broken, and phases ruin the ability to RP/Quest/Dungeon wherever we want, then that will be a pain in the behind. Cata has severely ruined some zones making getting through them on land mount a nuisance.

Right now, it sounds like too much is broken so I'll be a 'nay' sayer. We waited for so long, we can wait a little longer. (This WotLK build is (in my opinion) rather stable and glitch-free (Glitch =/= Bug) . I can't consider it to be a step forward if that gets exchanged by an unstable, glitchy/buggy Cata build.)

I agree with Psychyn, if it doesn't work, wait and fix it :D

Like many here, I only play on CotH for RP, but instances can be used for much more than leveling and looting. There's a lot of potential for adventure in instances, and I think the world would feel awfully incomplete without them.

That said... ME GUSTA CATACLYSM. I am very excited about human hunters and dwarf shamans, so I hope there's a solution to these issues.

Judging from the posted screenshots, I have faith that everyone thinks that we are hard at work and are in no way what so ever laughing to death when Illidan wants fly.

First off, the following is all in my own opinion;

The thing for me is that, personally, I have seen no reason not to make the jump from the perspective of someone only here to roleplay.

Here's my beef. Back when I was a grunt, I do remember grinding and questing. I considered them wholly a nuisance; just hoops to jump through so I could get more things to RP with, and something I found terribly boring. I've my reservations with how things are now, of course, but on the whole if you were to present both to me I would rather be as we are than before, when much of the grind and actual gameplay was necessary to get RP sets or so forth.

From the perspective of roleplay I think the cata core seems fine. NPCs with strange /say and emotes are something no one here should be a stranger to-- I cite the NPCs in Stormwind and Dalaran we've phased out. And need we forget 'Bip!'?

I personally don't care about broken quests, raids, etc; but I realize others do. The issue is that this may be the best bet we're going to see for a -long- while, and while it may feel fine to say 'oh it's broken, wait for a fix', I've become increasingly tired of the questions regarding when we'll have Cata as well.

Personally? I say make the jump. The world is just -better-; graphically as well as in the scope of use. Flight in-world makes a big difference, and I personally would enjoy seeing us push forward with lore, especially after two restarts done in the interest of coming in-line with Cataclysm lore. It just makes sense to me that we would move when available, and to me what I've seen seems like as good a bet as any. It has flaws, but those flaws do not hinder RP-- and to me, that's all that matters in that regard.

I'm a pretty big proponent of a move, in short. I realize that it isn't ideal for all in terms of RP vs PvE, but I feel that the gains should outweigh the losses. But again-- this is just my opinion.

If I may, those questions will be replaced with "Hey GM! I'm stuck!" "THIS QUEST NO WORK QQ" "This item causes the server to crash!" "IM STUCK IN A PHAAASEEE".. While I'm sure I am a exaggerating a bit, I don't think the tiresomeness to the question regarding Cata is solved by moving to Cata as it'll get replaced with other buggy/glitched fix questions/requests. (If it is truly that broken I've been let to believe with the posts so far)

Quote: It just makes sense to me that we would move when available

Hasn't the move been available for much longer, but held at bay due to said bugs/glitches or has the Cata build actually improved so much to consider it? (Just for my own clarification, I thought that -this- Cata build was available for the past 3 months at least? Isn't this the build that other servers have been running for a while now?)

Quote:and to me what I've seen seems like as good a bet as any. It has flaws, but those flaws do not hinder RP

Except when those flaws are with the phasing, bugged mobs and NPC's constantly spamming awkward messages. Phasing them out will cause for some odd moments when you suddenly miss a respective NPC you wanted to ICly meet or such, no?

If it's solely the quests/instances then I'll live really, but judging by an Earlier post by Grakor, it's much more. Referring to this;

1. The server clients are rather finicky. I'm imagining that this is going to be a nightmare for some people to actually get working.

2. We're having trouble with the custom GO patch on there, including the one that's supposedly updated for Cata. So, not sure if we'll get that or not.

3. Goblin starter area is FUBAR. Most likely we'll have to set up a portal to just have goblins skip the starter area. Thankfully, goblins have most of their racials at the beginning. The downside is that this means all goblins will lose out on the hobgoblin banker racial.

4. Worgen starter area was a bit buggy, but we've managed to smooth out some kinks in the City of Gilneas section. It can still be unstable and buggy if multiple people go through the quest steps at the same time, so people will need to go through that section one at a time. Unfortunately, Worgen can't just skip this, because without doing this section of the zone you don't get Two Forms or your other racials. Once you're out of Gilneas City, the quest line becomes FUBAR, but we fixed the problems with it so we can probably set up a portal to escape the instance once you're out of the city. Also unfortunately, Running Wild doesn't work, as Worgen fail to learn it naturally. Also, it apparently turns you into a wisp.

5. Gameplay wise, this is pretty much not workable. There's a lot of bugs, phasing quests are essentially shot, and so on.

Did those things get solved then through testing/messing about? The Worgen starting area is from my perspective alone enough to already halt the change. As much as I'd enjoy RPing on Cata, I'd hate to RP when it's in a state like this.

Patience be a virtue. (Don't take that wrong, but I don't see the big deal in waiting some more months as we've already waited for this long. Unless server development is truly dead, and we are stuck with our own code wonders to fix said bugs. If we have anyone knowledge about coding/writing code / fixing bugs that is. I don't know how far the knowledge regarding WoW codes go on here. As far as I always understood, we take just the graphics from WoW. Fill it with our own codes and that's how you get stuff working on a private server? )

And maybe we'll finally find out what Bishop Farthing was having an existential crisis over. Tune in next time.

Also, as for the weird NPC messages? We players can easily disable those. Only issue I see with that is if a GM randomly puppets an NPC and we don't notice.
