See, that's the thing. Every time you mention an MGS game starring The Boss around MGS fans, they'll all have your exact reactions. Kojima really is a fool for not doing it.

Okay come on the guy floating at the end? Gotta be related to Psycho Mantis somehow...
Or maybe it has something to do with The Pain? That guy was pretty interesting...

It's just a spin off. We don't really even know when this takes place, but judging by the rifles they're using it isn't cold war era. It's obviously not big boss or even snake. No beard, so it's not big boss. It's not solid snake because, ykno, the arm. Another big thing: Every metal gear game has had a metal gear. Where are you gonna fit a giant robot into a psychiatric ward based game? Not gonna happen.

If it is MGS 5, they'll use some crazy BS like NANOMACHINES REGREW HIS ARM god that would be stupid... although not as stupid at the liquid is inside revolver ocelot but not really "plot twist." I still don't think mgs 5 will ever exist, seeing as how the end to 4 was the longest ending known to man, closing any and all plot holes... there's really no need for mgs 5, especially since I don't see kojima as the money grabbing EA/activision tycoon type. What it might be is MGS:phantom pain, starring a new character, with Psycho Mantis (god please) or The Pain.

sachiko: Dig the big boss avatar. my email shares the same name with Gray Fox. <3 metal gear solid.

I'm suspecting the Phantom Pain might involve Liquid in some way. I mean, he's got the look, and the missing arm...

Nah, FOXDIE killed him, and he got the real stuff, not the modified stuff. The hair is also the wrong color.

Yeah no kidding...But still I don't think it's liquid just based on the hair.

I think if it was Liquid, I would end up having sooooooo much fun with that. What with how "I'm dead, wait, no I'm not" is in MGS, there's no telling. I mean,
Spoiler:
we thought we killed Big Boss at the end of Metal Gear 2 and here he comes at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4. We'll just chalk it up to Les Enfants Terribles somehow and continue on our path.

Though he's missing the tattoos that would identify him as Liquid.

Isn't the guy in phantom pain wearing scrubs or something? I can't remember (also at work so I can't double check.)

edit: also remember that "big boss" was also a torso in mgs4... christ that shit was creepy...

He is in scrubs. But there were a few scenes you could see his arms.

And in MGS4, that torso was

actually Solidus

So. I'm almost done playing Rising. I made it to the last boss and kinda got stuck. That's what I get for not mastering the free-cut mode. It's a great game, but it has it's flaws
The camera is a huge hinderance most of the time.
There is optional sneaking, but the camera makes watching enemies while going difficult
Combat can go a little too fast to my liking. I got a few headaches from trying to watch it.
Boss battles (on normal difficulty) go from difficult to just one-sided.
It's just too short for my liking!

But overall it's great. The storyline keeps me involved and it keeps me guessing. Unlocking items and abilities can be rather predictable and I don't think it will have a high playback quality for people who are stuck offline with no way of getting their DLC, but hey, I still love this game.

Games such as Rising does have a great replay value for people who commonly play these games and try to S-rank them and stuff.

Personally, I bought Rising not because it was Metal Gear, but because it's a hack n' slash made by Platinum games and I can tell that as such, it's holding up extremely well. The gameplay is smooth, the bosses are great and the soundtrack does its job perfectly.

It's not without flaws, though. My biggest problem is the camera, which might be the worst I've ever seen in a game like this. My other big complaint is that the game has a habit of throwing events at you that you must react to in a split second or you'll just die with no second chances. I found that kind of thing to be alright in Resident Evil 6, where it kept you on your toes, but in games like Rising it becomes straight out obnoxious. Bayonetta did it too, but not nearly as much as Rising.
