TLE Presents: NPC Dates and Adopt-an-NPC!

So you want to find romance...

But you can’t find it on your own, so you employ The Love Exchange!

But, gee, matches are extremely hard to come by, and with the population of the server being so low, it seems very unlikely for anyone to have any player matches, even if folks make ourselves available to prospective mates outside their race and faction.

How can anyone have any success in finding romance without having to construct their own love interests?

Well, simple! TLE Presents...

‘NPC DATES’ and what it is:

The NPC Dates chain is intended to provide fun and romance for any character who wishes to court others. Unlike wherein dates are set up between player clients based on TLE matchmaking, NPC Dates are fully intended to be private events with one player client paired with a randomly generated NPC. The NPC will possess desirable traits outlined in the player client’s matchmaking profile, but he/she will have additional traits that are determined by a series of rolls done at the time of the date’s setup.

How ‘NPC DATES’ works:

First, you, the player, must obtain a TLE matchmaking profile. This can either be done by filling out the application yourself with the PM sent to @ImagenAshyun or getting an interview with an employed matchmaker. While doing the application yourself will get you a slot faster, RPing with an interviewer will allow that matchmaker to make in-depth IC notes (and possible funny commentary) about you so that we can have a better idea on what NPC to generate for you. There is also the option of filling out an application as a third-party applicant; fathers can fill out forms for their daughters, friends for their friends, sons for their widowed mothers, and so forth.

Secondly, you must state or contact the TLE heads (being @ImagenAshyun and @Mathias at current) your intention to be added to the queue of NPC dates. If you don’t, we will assume you only want player matches and won’t be added to the event queue. Contacts can be done either in the TLE Mailbox or PM (if you have an existing profile that hasn’t been withdrawn), or stated up front OOC at the time of an interview or submission of a filled-in application (if you are a new client).

What 'NPC Dates' will entail:

By the time you agree to having an NPC date after submitting your application/having an interview, you will be placed in a queue wherein we will arrange a time and date for your event. The date must be scheduled days in advanced. Your date will be confirmed with a PM of a constructed matchmaking profile containing traits of your date. It will look something like this:

There is no limit to how many of your characters will have profiles, nor are there any limits to how many NPC dates any of your characters can have. However, once you have your scheduled date, your character will be placed in the bottom of the queue. If you have more than one character profiled, you must wait until three dates from other players until you can get your additional characters their own schedules.

Once your date happens, have fun! Remember that the traits are randomly generated, and chances are you will have a character with deliberately outlandish quirks that either make the date a disaster or will just be flat out weird. As seen in the above sample of the trait chart, there is a chance your date will possess a really odd quirk. Maybe your orc thinks he’s Varian Wrynn. Maybe your goblin wears socks on his ears. Maybe your gnome speaks only in rhyme. Or maybe your date will be an “Adelle”.


But wait! What if you don’t mind the quirk? What if you think the troll woman who whistles through her nose while she eats is cute? What if you think the tauren who is terrified of dinner/kitchenware is actually endearing? Well, my friends, this is where you have…

What NPC Adoption is:

Adopt-an-NPC is a simple system in which you, the player client, is allowed to take the NPC profile and use it as a basis in having that character rolled as a legitimate RP character. It’s up to you to lower the quirks or add a backstory that isn’t stated in the initial date. Your choices in what to do with this date is entirely up to you, as the adopter of this NPC. However, there are limitations in what can be done with this NPC, which will be described below.

Which NPCs are adoptable?:

The only NPCs available for adoption are those of playable races. If, by any chance, you won the lucky roll of having a gnoll, hobgoblin, or ogre as a possible date, sorry. No sale. I do not recommend getting a CMC for adoptive date NPCs as, very likely, they will not be approved.

How do I adopt an NPC?:

Below is a form in which you can fill out regarding the NPC you wish to adopt. Before you fill this out, however, you must carefully consider who will play this adopted character.

How did your date go? Give your general opinion on your date. Did you like it? Thought it could do better? Did you feel sadder towards the character than you find him/her funny? Give your thoughts here!

Why do you want to adopt this NPC?: Please give me your reasons on why you want to adopt the NPC and your plans for the character. You can choose to do anything you wish with the character as long as he/she is played out according to CotH's rules.

Who will play this NPC?: This can be you, a friend of yours, or just anyone whom you have assigned to play the character. If you decide to keep the character as an invisible NPC, then state that you want to keep the character an NPC and not a rolled game model.

Once you adopt the NPC, this character is no longer in the DM’s hands and, therefore, is no longer TLE’s responsibility. If I, ImagenAshyun, DMed the NPC and you decide to adopt him/her, you have to arrange with another player--or yourself--to play that character. Please do not ask or beg for TLE DMs to formally roll the character for you to romance, as these characters are intended to be event NPCs available for other players to take, not us.

If you do, however, wish to adopt the NPC but cannot figure out or find who can play him/her, you can still adopt the NPC itself and take it as your own. The NPC will be pulled from the event circulation and officially become your character’s lover, even though that NPC is not played by anyone in particular. What you decide to do with this NPC is entirely up to you. You can either have your character marry this one and bear children, or keep the NPC with you until you find a player lover and then break up with the NPC.

I confess I never tried TLE's services, but this looks too hilarious to pass on. Still need to decide on the character I want to tortur-- I mean, find a soulmate for, though! Best of luck, either way.
