A discussion as to whether Stormwind and similar human cities are appropriate places for Night-Elven roleplay would be interesting, but that isn't the purpose of this thread. To read some thoughts on roleplaying in "Lore-Breaking" environments, there's a thread about it here in the Grunt discussion board.

Numero Dos- To many elves on their racial mounts within the city. Check them at the door. They are a beast, and within human settlements they will be regarded as such. No exceptions, you will be jailed, or the beast will be attacked and eventually killed. Do not debate this.

This is also a deviation from the discussion at hand, though noted. I imagine it would be helpful to post about this in a separate thread, if it hasn't been already.

It seems that there is something of a consensus, at least concerning guards and their reactions to violence toward a Night Elf. I also get the impression from the responses I've received that it is not the societal norm for the Night Elves and their allies to hate each other to the point of murder.

The difficulty appears to be gauging the degree of friendship the two sides share, based on different interpretations of the lore. Some argue that WoW itself is wrong in the way that it depicts Night Elves, while others suggest that Blizzard is right in the way it portrays the race and its allies. I'm sure everyone has an extremely impassioned opinion on the subject, but it seems that there currently is no hard and fast rule concerning it on CotH. It would make for an intriguing debate, though that is not the purpose of this thread.

I would be interested to hear anyone else's thoughts concerning the three main questions outlined in the beginning post, if they have any.

Well, many mechanics in WoW aren't there for the lore or to demonstrate any sort of campanionship between the races of the Alliance or the Horde. The Night Elves in The Park district of Stormwind are mostly Druid oriented NPCs and aren't exactly a demonstration of how much the Humans love Night Elves. But one could also argue that the moonwell is there, and we could have a whole arguement on that. But I think Blizzard put it there for the sake of making the park look pretty.

Making the park pretty and for tailoring reasons. Originally if one wanted to make mooncloth you had to go to Darnassus or the Moonwell in Ashenvale (oh waaah, Reason # 1035 why I dislike retail.)

But again Seraphim, you missed my point. Those points I had made lead me to believe that is why people RP so violently towards the Night elves as a whole. That and the term Xenophobia tree hugging hippy gets thrown around a lot as well. Frankly, ye olde creole "Ain' it harm none do what thou wilt'. "Enjoy your play, don't blatantly break lore, and always ask questions.

I thought we addressed that topic already and this seems to be dragging out further than it needs to be. Sociopaths do exist to some small degree, watch out for them, I hear they like that Slaughtered Lamb place...

Again, I'm really not trying to host the debate between those who support Blizzard's lore and those who don't. I encourage someone else to make a post concerning that, if they like, and I'm sure it will have interesting results. But as there is no official decision concerning server-lore on the issue, there is no real purpose to such a debate, aside from the debate itself.

And again, Armistad, I wasn't seeking the reasons why individuals make characters who hate Night Elves to the point of immediately responding to them with murderous intent. I hope that it is because that is the concept they envisioned for their characters, and not because of OOC hatred of a race based on the choices of certain players, as you suggested. In my opinion, a character created from such motivations would be unfortunate for that player and the server as a whole.

Further, it is not my intention to debate why people do feel OOC hatred for assorted races, and whether that enmity is justified. Potentially another interesting thread topic, but also a topic that runs the risk of becoming something less than constructive.

In my last post, I was just trying to summarize the overall responses to the thread so far, and offer a chance for others to have their say, considering that the thread is less than a day old. My intention is simply to draw a sort of consensus on the topic from the community, and I would like to encourage others to participate in the discussion. If any GMs feel that this thread has been fleshed out as much as it needs to be, I would welcome them to lock it.
