That's not necessarily true. Orc Warlocks are still Arcane casters, they just learned Warlock arts at the outset. It doesn't mean they can't use normal fire, but it does mean that a great deal of stuff not directly related to becoming a Warlock is not learned. For example, they'd probably know how to make both kinds of Fire through the Arcane, since you need to be more powerful to use Fel, and it's a conscious decision, but they would not learn any more esoteric magic skills. All their training goes into Evocation magic (Fire, Shadow) and Demonology.

Edit: I'd like to mention here that a great deal of Orc Warlocks number among the most skilled Demonologists in the world (Sans demons themselves.) due to experience with the art and first-hand dealings with the Legion.

This came up in a thread on warlockery and fel magic and all, and I didn't wanna derail it, so putting it here for discussion.

Tauren and Night Elves! Able to sense/smell Fel/Arcane taint in individuals or areas? For the Tauren, I do believe the wiki page on them says that they can indeed smell the Fel taint. But can Night Elves? IMO, it doesn't seem like it's too far-fetched, seeing as how in tune they are with Nature, and given their past, they may have a sense of it that could have been passed down through generations. Or maybe just the older(10,000+) Elves can smell it because they would have experienced it and all?

People's thoughts?

I don't know about NElves smelling fel...
Even if the lore would have it, I hope the GMs rule that it's dialed down a lot.

If NElves could really smell out warlocks, Stormwind (Or the Church) would have borrowed a dozen elves after the Alliance was made and soon-after functionally evacuated the Coven out of Stormwind. (Warlocks are not openly allowed in the alliance)

It would trump warlock RP in a very bad way if NElves could smell'm out.

I don't remember reading that any race can sense fel taint. Unless it's blatantly obvious.

To me that'd be like being able to smell radiation. Probably wouldn't be able to unless there was a toxic leak of some kind.

Maybe not like "omg spidey sense tingling" but maybe say.. a weak kind of.. 'feeling' so to speak? Like, the person would be to be overwhelmingly tainted in order for the Elf to be able to actually like.. zone in on that individual. But if they smell Fel, I'd think they kind of get the same from Arcane then, no? As Fel is just a stronger(and more corrupt) type of Arcane, yes? So, in places like Stormwind.. they wouldn't be able to focus enough because there'd be too much Arcane to single anyone out, etc.

But yes, I understand your worry, as it's -massive- oppuritunity for metagaming and such. Didn't want that thread to get derailed, and I was curious. <3 Discussion. ^_^

Edit: Yes, I think I probably read the Tauren thing on some prestige class and it just got lost in the mix. Memory = bad.

I think...at the lightest, only Demon Hunters (Especially demon hunters), Ley line walkers, maybe runemasters and the greatest Shaman should detect a Fel being...perhaps Archmage too with some 'litmus test' like enchantment, if ever we make a ruling on it in-game. I find it annoying at how common individuals suddenly straighten their backs and say that they sense evil...or something.

Any thoughts on this...and how about a ruling on Death Knights?

<Nod> I do say I agree that it is annoying when people think they can just point at someone and say "WARLOCK!" simply because they read their name, or /who'd them, etc. But that's part of the reason I'd like this to be discussed. :B

And do you mean.. sensing a Death Knight? Or a Death Knight being able to sense things, or..?

Here is the Tauren thing about being sensitive to the "taint of magic". It is talking about high elves but I would assume it would be even worse for Blood Elves.

Wowwiki Wrote:Tauren also bear no ill will to the members of the Alliance unless threatened by them, although they do make an exception for high elves. The taint of magic on the high elven spirit is a poisonous air to the tauren, a stench of the soul that they cannot tolerate for long.
