Welcome! |
Lok'Tar! Conquest of the Horde was originally a private World of Warcraft RP community that focused primarily on roleplay within the WoW setting. Originally established in September of 2007, CotH enjoyed a healthy reign of over seven years focused on WoW roleplay. On January 22nd of 2015, a DMCA notice was issued, resulting in a halt of the WoW RP focus. Now, the community has expanded to encompass multiple worlds in various games and settings. This community will serve as a hub for members to join like-minded individuals in any game or environment. The community itself will also host a few game worlds of its own after development progresses enough.
While the dust is settling after the revelation of the WoW server closure, feel free to hang out and see how development goes!

5/12/12 - Server Computer Kaboom |

So it seems the server computer has died. Specifically, after doing some testing and trying to isolate any particular components, I'm fairly certain the motherboard (or possibly the CPU) has died. >.<
I already tried testing every component including the PSU, but as of now when the computer tries to boot up, it runs for about 5-10 seconds and then simply shuts off - not even a POST beep or display on the monitor. The CPU fan itself spins up for a few seconds then shuts off, with the computer itself running for a few more seconds before completely shutting off.
So, I'm in a bit of a predicament! I'm somewhat surprised it lasted so long, considering the tower (well, CPU/mobo) I'm using is probably about... well, the CPU itself is a 2005 model. It was my main gaming computer for a couple years, and then I started using it as a server in 2007-ish. Ever since, it's been running pretty much 24/7. Not too bad, I think! Now I'll just have to see what I want to do with replacing it.
Unfortunately, we're coming up to the weekend so if I order parts to build they'll likely arrive on Mon/Tue. Therefore, we'll have a four-day vacation! Hehe. Furthermore, this is actually an opportune time because I've been wanting to switch to Linux, and with this occurring it's almost as if it's meant to be! Computer geeks, please refer to this thread for Linux chatter (I has questions).
TL;DR - Computer died. Several days inevitable downtime.

Server coming down momentarily to install some OS updates as well as push a rev update. Estimated downtime is 5-10 minutes!
Server's back up!
As a side note, at some point in the future I intend to try out Linux on my server machine. A class I'm currently taking has piqued my interest!

Trial Run - Profile Wait Time Lifting |

So in response to a discussion in another thread, Kretol and I have agreed to running a trial period without any profile wait time between posts. This means that you will be allowed to post another profile immediately after your first profile is approved, instead of having to wait a week to submit another one. However, keep in mind that you still may only have one profile in the system at a time.
This trial will be running for two weeks, and we'll call it on the 4th of May and see if we need to go back to our old ways or keep the change. A lot of that depends on if the profile boards get bogged down or not.
