Welcome!
Lok'Tar! Conquest of the Horde was originally a private World of Warcraft RP community that focused primarily on roleplay within the WoW setting. Originally established in September of 2007, CotH enjoyed a healthy reign of over seven years focused on WoW roleplay. On January 22nd of 2015, a DMCA notice was issued, resulting in a halt of the WoW RP focus. Now, the community has expanded to encompass multiple worlds in various games and settings. This community will serve as a hub for members to join like-minded individuals in any game or environment. The community itself will also host a few game worlds of its own after development progresses enough.
While the dust is settling after the revelation of the WoW server closure, feel free to hang out and see how development goes!

  Testing Dedicated
Posted by: Kretol - 01-11-2010, 04:35 PM - Forum: Community News - Replies (30)

Still not working properly yet. Eventually!

Edit: Bear in mind the new server isn't up -quite- yet. In the process of migrating the database currently. Please check the Server Status Updates forum for more up-to-date information.

It's been over two years now since I first started CotH. Ever since then, I've been hosting the server at home on a 'server machine' (which has always been my cast-off gaming rig). For the past several months, folks have experienced a smattering of connectivity issues, which I thought could have been fixed by me upgrading my Cable Internet plan, but it didn't really seem to affect much. Therefore, I decided to try out a dedicated host!

I already have a copy of the server running on there (after several days of setting it up. VPS's are annoying.) Any further changes to the world will probably take place over there as well, for the time being. So far, lag has been a thing of the past. I've even been trying to spam AE damage spells to everything in sight in WSG, and I still haven't experienced any lag.

The only downside I've noticed, thus far, is that startup of the server is relatively slow. This is simply because while my old gaming computer is beefed up with an uber processor and RAM, the VPS forgoes all that in lieu of a very nice connection. So far, a small price to pay, but we'll see if it makes a huge difference once we try getting a few handfuls of people online and giving it a whirl.

Anyhow, to try out the new server host, change your realmlist to:
coth.game-server.cc

Bear in mind that I made a copy of all the databases a few days ago. Therefore, any changes very recently made to any of your characters will not be reflected. Also, any recently-created accounts will not be in the database either. If things go well during this testing period, then I'll bring down the current server, move the character and accounts databases over, and then start the new one up again. At that point, that will be our server!

Any questions, please feel free to post!

Edit: Furthermore, you can access coth.game-server.cc directly to see the server status page.

  New Forum Rule: Thread Derailing
Posted by: Grakor456 - 01-03-2010, 10:03 PM - Forum: Community News - Replies (1)

Under normal circumstances, I'm fairly relaxed when it comes to random silliness on the forums. While I like to keep a relaxed atmosphere in the forums whenever possible, unfortunately sometimes jokes and randomness can go too far and end up derailing an otherwise serious thread or end up with silliness that really detracts from the thread as a whole.

For this reason, Kretol and I have added a new forum rule. Please keep the "Barrens Chat level" of silliness muted on the main forums. This includes things like "The Game" and the like, which have the potential to end up taking threads over. You can keep such silliness over on the Off-Topic board, which will sort of be the "Barrens Chat" of the forums.

If you have any questions, please post below.

Let me tell you a story...
Posted by: Anski - 12-29-2009, 09:06 PM - Forum: Community News - Replies (36)

So I was outside (for once in my hermit life), and I was painting my house (which is an apartment and a lie), and I decided to be real tacky (something I would actually do). I decided that small little wall that's the general vicinity of my house (apartment) needed a good coat of green and yellow. A nice mix (hideous!), like relish and mustard on a hot dog (A gross combination, if you ask me). I rolled up my sleeves, grabbed my ladder (which I don't own), and began to paint the wall! After I got about five houses down, someone came outside and told me to stop.

Feeling blue and covered in paint, I decided to get on the computer (gross!) and start typing around. Lo and behold I dropped some color into the server's scripting (I think the colors in scripts have something to do with them, right?) and I accidentally made Walluce and Moose green (or atleast greener for Moose) and DuskWolf yellow!

Oh man I hope Kretol doesn't punt me irl for breaking things. ._.

(Just incase you didn't get it, Walluce is now a trial GM and Moose and DuskWolf are now Story and Builder GM's respectively! Woohoo!)
