He's explicitly mentioned to be a Gilnean. He killed his family before he was cured, and is still wracked with guilt over what he's done. You find out about all of that if you do Heroic Deadmines.

I think they meant in like, regards to the transformation they go through though, like was it done on a whim, through rage, or by some other means? That's why I asked for clarification, otherwise yes, that's exactly what it says during that event.
