A question on Warlocks...
#16
I have a question....

Can warlocks teleport? Via portal/mage teleportation if the character was a mage who became a warlock? A Mage that could use these abilities? And if no, why not? And if no, then is this spell any different? (http://www.wowpedia.org/Demonic_Circle)

I'd consider the mage teleportation spell and the demonic circle very different. One is strictly the application of arcane energy while the other has some sort of demonic component. While I haven't given it much thought, you could roleplay the use of a demonic circle. Unlike teleportation where you move instantaneously from one spot to another (and the other might be a goodly distance, too!), demonic circles are limited in distance. A way you could justify this is that you effectively temporarily enter another plane of existence and then pop out in our side.

A similar idea is already in place regarding the Realm of Shadow:

Quote:The Realm of Shadows, also known as Shadow Realm or Shadow Plane, is a dimension apparently accessible by powerful death knights such as Lady Alistra and Salanar the Horseman, who can teleport others (and probably themselves) to and from it. It appears as a shadowy version of the real world. Salanar the Horseman's dark riders kills captured horses and raises them as Acherus Deathchargers there, and death knight initiates must then venture into the realm to defeat the horsemen and take the deathchargers for themselves, a task in which few of the initiates succeed. Shadowy Tormentors inhabit this dimension.
In order to explain why you can only go such a short distance, perhaps there are forces on the other side that might try to kill or otherwise harm unwary warlocks, much like the Shadowy Tormentors found in the Realm of Shadow. Limiting your exposure would limit the chance of being killed. Or, as an alternative, perhaps the other plane is so vastly different from the one we play upon that staying in it too long would result in madness.

Remember, as was mentioned in another thread, fel magic is at its most basic form arcane magic, though it has been corrupted by contamination to demonic energy or other components. They may share similar roots and have somewhat similar abilities, though the way of obtaining those results may be vastly different.

Just some random ideas!

So can I still use mage-teleportation as well?

Also I was going to explain the demonic circle as the further the player teleports, the more toll it will take on his life energy.

edit: There was a GM that gave me this answer before, but I don't remember what it was

I thought that was Orgrimmar. Stormwind Guards will kill suspected warlocks w/o trial?

Nah, the warlocks are just kept under heavy watch by thrall, because the horde has been betrayed by their own kin that had been training as warlocks before.

I'm pretty sure that the limitation on range for a Demonic circle is an in-game mechanic. And here is my prime opinion on how the two differ. Teleportation/Portal is taught as a fixed point, they are told the spell that tells them where to go. HOWEVER I see demonic circle as a way for a warlock to get somewhere they've previously been, but only after they've set up a circle at said location :>

We want to keep the different classes and their abilities sepparated, a warlock already have a lot of powerful magicks at their disposal so adding the arsenal of a mage would give them an unfair advantage over other classes, so stick to what a warlock could do and let mages keep their spells.

You'll also get more RP if you instead find yourself a mage to help with portals and such, keep in mind that those are dangerous things to play with.

Good morning,

Weighing on what was being discussed, I should think that, in Stormwind, what would require punishment would be the outright summoning of demons, and even then you still have the right to a trial. Of course, this has simply been my interpretation of Stormwind's laws, and the human race as a whole.

The same would likely go in Orgrimmar, although to a much heavier extent. I cannot imagine that the Orcs, who are just now fully shedding their horrific past of torment from demons, would even bother bringing you to the officials. It would be off with your head, Queen of Hearts style.

Although curses, afflictions, and other variations of fel manipulation or shadowmancing may be frowned upon, I doubt they would alarm the guards much, or warrant any issues with the law.

It goes two ways, though:
For the Orcs, a warlock's magic was a source of great power, and the strength to crush their opponents. Indeed, with the fel energy the warlocks gave them, the Orcs even managed to kill a Demigod. This is a force to be carefully controlled, and channeled against your enemies. After all, up until recently, the Orcs were suppressed beyond all reason.

For the Humans, the magical energies of warlocks has spelled death and ruin for untold thousands. Virtually every terrible scourge the humans have suffered has been caused by warlocks. Orcish invasion, the Burning Legion, even the Undead plague. All of this has been from the power of demons.
