Quick question. Lets say your in the middle of a sentence and all of the sudden you realize you don't know how to spell something like, Barracks (Incredibly difficult, I mean really how is there no x in there?!).

What should you do?

Delete the sentence and ask for help? (Takes more time and slightly detracts from the flow.)

Minimize and check Google? (People think your AFK if you take too long.)

Or do you just spell it the best you can and hope that no eye bleeding occurs? (You misspelled a word.)

Which would be the best course of action?

This is actually very simple to do. When in the middle of typing a sentence and you get stuck, immediately hit Ctrl+A to select everything, Ctrl+X to cut it, ask your question, then open up the chat box and hit Ctrl+V to paste it in, and continue on from where you left off.

Personally, I try to keep Google Translate open in the background, to see if I've spelled it right. (In which case, the word will translate to the equivalent word in the other language.) Of course, this is a bit excessive to do, so when I don't have Translate open, I just type the word in Google and attempts to see if it's right from there.

I don't think either methods take alot of time, or detract from the roleplay. Not for me atleast. And if you use one method long enough, you'll eventually be quicker.

You can also misspell it and type it in perhaps /general saying (sp?)

That's the accepted shorthand for questioning if it's spelled incorrectly.

Thank you all for the help and suggestions, it is greatly appreciated. It always pains me personally when I make people twitch in pain over my grammar and spelling, sorry for the mistakes.

Ever since I started RP, I've gotten to the point where it was a lot like a pet peeve. If I don't capitalize an ' I ' in a sentence then I may as well delete it all and start all over.

A man (or woman, who knows?) by my own heart. After a few months in a strict Roleplaying guild on Warcraft III, I have a hard time not typing in proper grammar.

I just bash my face into the keyboard to type. Words come out. It's not hard at all.

Aside from being from a different country or having a handicap, there really is no good excuse not to use good grammar. I don't see how it saves any time to not capitalize, punctuate, etc. If you're a good typist, which most people these days are, you can churn out ~70 words per minute and as far as I know, hitting the shift key with a pinkie finger doesn't detract from that at all.

Also, if I don't know how something is spelled, (I always have my WoW Windowed), I check the internet, or if I'm in a hurry, I just say it the best I can and ask later.

People tend to make little to no mistakes when they write larger posts (Sometimes), I say...make use of WORD.

Most browsers should have built-in spell-checking as you type as well. There's really no excuse here on the forums.
