Timeline after the Restart

I say post Arthas because I am saying this from my own personal expierence. Downing Illidan RP wise on my last server took a massive ten part event that had at least thirty people at it at a time. Then when you get to the final part you cannot even help. Because Akama and Maiev had Illidan under control.

See even if we did do anything for the players to assist with, it would be so very difficult.

But that is why I have a whole cast of bad guys for the Bloodsworn Honorguard to fight post restart. New evil people to take down, things that players, most of all, players, can take down. But that is just my 2 copper.

I vote post Lich King's death. This isn't 'buddy-buddy love, sunshine, and rainbows' craft. It's Warcraft. There's war. People are gonna die anyways. Might as well die in a blaze of glory, ripping a demon's head from his body with your bare hands before meeting your end to a necromancer's skeletal minion.

I definitely vote for pre-death. it reasonable to understand that non of the players will be able to be involved in the actual slaying of Arthas, but as Mikain put it, we could be involved in minor skirmishes around the glacier, helping to divert attention of the scourge from the Citadel. Imagine what fun would be to be involved in such battle of epic proportions where the mortal races (and zombos) are united against the evil that threatens to destroy the world? Also Arthas is one of my favorite characters evah so I would really enjoy RPing his downfall (this sentence is contractionary, but you get the point).

Why vote between the killing of Arthas and World war? I vote for both.Example:

In the midst of victory celebration new question arises. Who gets the newly conquered land? Then all hell breaks loose. As Blizzard would put it:

"Even though Azeroth was saved, the tenuous pact between the Horde and the Alliance has all but evaporated. The drums of war thunder once again."

I voted after death. I figure, if it will be as much of a pain to organize an event as has been mentioned why do it. I know I would hate trying to organize anything over 10 players so a huge 30+ event isn't anything I'd bother to ask of anyone.

therew Wrote:I vote pre-death of lich king. Personally I never cared to much for alliance versus horde events because of the ooc drama that comes with them. At the end of the day it turns into just a bunch of dice rolls and crying. Different rp styles clash and unless done really well it turns into a huge mess. Npc's don't complain and from my time Gm'ing, players complain less when they lose to npcs.

I do agree with this as well in respect to Alliance vs Horde RP as has been my personal experience. I usually stick to messing with NPC's instead. However, there are a lot of other NPCs other than the ones in Northrend that players can still fight and such. Plenty of other enemies that may not be as big as the Lich King but are possibly more realistic for many characters to take a part in fighting. And... when all else fails you can always create your own enemy to fight against.

I'm a little new, so maybe it's not really my business posting here.

I think the deciding factor on if COTH should return before the Lich King or after would be how much time and energy we want to spend creating custom content to fill the gap between now and Cata. Ruby Sanctum and Gnomeregon aside, there's going to be squat for a long time. Unless each side is going to spend that time building up hatred of the other faction for war in Cata (which will no doubt cause a lot of issues OOC - "allies are f**s", "hordes are nubs" and that kind of malarky), we won't have anything to DO in the bigger picture, nothing to build towards, unless the GMs plan big pretty distracting events.

Also, is it really that difficult to create and manage a Lich King event? Like I said, I'm new, but I've run a Lich King Invasion event on my last server playing as Arthas myself (bringing an undead NPC/player army through Azeroth following a "failed" siege of Icecrown Citadel). It worked well enough, and that was just picking up random players within it as we went. Surely a set-designed Icecrown Citadel event could be done so long as players are mature about it.

If it can't be done, it's no fault of the GMs, or shouldn't be a fault of the GMs anyways - only the reluctance of the players. As any roleplayer will tell you, nothing is "perfect" - we take what we can get from a story.

I voted in a timeline post-Lich King.
I believe that more opportunities can be obtained, such as the reconstruction of casualties from the war.(Wrathgate siege), economical balance, peace treaties.
Or perhaps all the opposite from what I have stated!
Alliance laying death to Horde, and Horde bringing carnage to Alliance. Who shall win?

With this, I believe It could bring a 'peace' period, before the Cataclysm expansion comes out, assuming the server will favor to it once a stable core is available.

I might have an idea :)

Ok, say, word gets out that the lich king has just been defeated. Since the GM's are not allowing player character to have IC taken part in this as he is so powerfull, why not have GM's or voulenteers offer to play out a few members of the triumphant army, returning to, say, dalaran (but for the lag) or whatever. This would allow it to happen IC, and would allow for people to celebrate the death of the Lich king, while not having to add to the lore that specific named people killed him.

I like the idea of the horde/alliance growing tense after the threat that kept them temporarilly together, so I voted for the lich king to be killed reguardless

I voted for the timeline to take place before the death of the Lich King. I'm considering the fact that there may not be much to do afterward for our characters; we killed our guy, so what now until Cataclysm comes out? Yes, there is conflict RP between the Alliance and the Horde, but its most likely not a good idea to make it last that long. Now, I'm all for having war in Warcraft, and am not really a fan of the total neutrality. However if that's all we're going to be doing, killing each other, then I don't think it'll really work out. Even in random small skirmishes IC conflict can turn into OOC conflict quickly. All-in-all, unless we can find something to keep us occupied other than the Alliance and the Horde killing each other, I'd rather keep the world focused on killing the Lich King in the time being.

An Added Note: I do have my own little big event that I've been working on, though I still need to write up a concrete draft and get support/approval on it.
What a holy person I am...

There were a lot of good points and if I say something someone else has already said My apologies.

I agree with Grakor that starting before the restart wouldn't be as epic as it seems. There would be no weight or build-up to his death. For some of the chars getting carried over, but most of our chars are getting retconned or restarted and would have little IC story line to make such an event a peak ( Though it would be a large moment in -anyones- life.)

Also for the people who think our soilder chars would rush Icecrown citadel, I don't think it would happen, and if it did it wouldn't be as epic as you imagine. I think the GM's do a wonderful job with events, I enjoyed Echo islands event, -loved- the Sin'Sholai events but we don't interact with the lore char we help fight the cronies which makes sense as we are the everyday average warrior. So if PC's think they are going to wonder around saying I killed the Lich King or participated in it, I doubt that would fly. And if we're trying to stay as close to Lore as possible, maybe custom characters should have little to no involvement with the death of the Lich King.

Plus we already know he's ultimately going to die, so going up to it wouldn't be surprising in the least. We could finally enjoy some warcraft war between factions before being blind sided by the apocalypse I find that very interesting. Also starting before the restart would be ultimately where we are now. Fighting the Lich King. If we really want a real restart, we should start on a different plateau really try to reinvent the things so we can start out fresh with a excellent foundation. Just my ideas though.

If only pvp events didn't always lead to ooc drama I would look forward to and take part in them. But I think I will stick to doing them once a blue moon.

After giving the topic some thought and rereading the whole thing I come to think it doesn't matter at all if the lich king is dead or not. People who want the alliance versus horde events are always going to want it mostly because not many really ever get around to organizing them where as people who rather go head to head with npc's will do so like my guild. If I could change my vote to " It doesnt matter" I would. Seeing as I can't I will simply state it here. Lastly to everyone who agrees with the quote above, please take this suggestion with the utmost respect.

I am not one to regular the forums to often, but I never see people trying to make pvp/ Ally Versus Horde events. Theres alot of you guys out there and in topics like this its easy for you guys to find each other. Get together and make an event. I'm sure the gm's will help you guys out once yall make it though the red tape involved. Alot of people on the server will also follow the rp, once you guys get the ball rolling with 5-10 people, it would only be a matter of time before half the server flocks to where you are to get involved. Thats a little off topic but every time I see the above quote I always feel it needs to be said.

You know... If we start pre-Arthas's death, then we can STILL do other events after his death. Basiacally. We kill Arthas in the big event, and then we start all of the other stuff that some players are posting about. And I don't see how it would be hard to organize an event. Just have most of the GMs there to coordinate something, spawn some mobs, possess some NPCs. And like I said earlier, we could even have one of the GMs spawning a nonhostile Lich King model and possessing it to have a giant RP battle like that! Think of the fun that would be people!

I hope people read all of the things in here that I wrote and use logic to realize that we can still have a big crossfaction war AFTER we do an event to kill Arthas! I don't see why anyone would want to start after his death. If you start before his death, all it does it add an extra event that would be sooo much fun! Just imagine it in your head!!!

Excuse me while I shove my opinion in here.

Post-Arthas is the best. Why? So we don't have to worry about the whole 'I WANNA KILL ARTHAS!' 'NO I WANNA!'

I know we're mature enough for that not to happen. But still. If we had a 'Who wants to be part of the team to kill Arthas!?' some people would feel resentment towards being excluded. Now I understand that denying everyone the opportunity to beat him might be unfair, but let's look at what'll happen if we do make Arthas' death an event.

1: Exclusion to those whom do not join in the event.

2: Overworking the GMs, taking down Arthas is something big.

3: Characters are considered waaaay too much more powerful than others. Because you have to be alot stronger than the average character to not be one-shotted by Arthas.

And other things!

To those of you saying 'Well we don't have a main villain now!'. Uhh. Make a villain. How many of your characters really worked against -specifically- Arthas anyway?

As the saying goes: Disregard Liches, acquire currency.

Post Lich King is probably best if there isn't to be a climactic event regarding his death. It would be disappointing to have him die off screen with no player involvement anyhow, so he may as well be dead from the getgo.

I would personally have to say, post Lich King death. The Lich King doesn't even die properly and none of us know he is still "alive" IC. Unless we decide to change the Lore again and say Tirion told us... which would be silly. I say I miss the Horde vs Alliance, nice bit of Warsong Clan vs Anything that isn't Horde. I would love that... recently I have been depending on random evil Warlocks to cause all the PvP trouble, or outlaws of sorts. I want to see the Horde and the Alliance hating each other. Blood Elves hating humans for ditching them. Orcs and Humans reverting back to old hate. Dwarves digging where they shouldn't be. Night Elves only caring about their forests. Gnomes doing as they are told because it's the only chance to get their city back. Draenei never forgiving the Orcs.. the list goes one and one.

I would like to see some more diversity, and some more Alliance military, so that the Horde have something to worry about. About 80% of the RP I swear is neutral, it would be better to make it 50/50.

I voted for before the Lich King's death. I certainly don't want us to have a player event to kill him, though. I just think we can do the lore itself justice without having the skip over it. Unless we make it almost IMMEDIATELY after he dies, we'll be missing out on a lot of good roleplay and reactions by going post-death.
