Cataclysm Appreciation Thread, or CAT.

I'm interested in seeing what new variations in boss fights Blizzard will come up with. Wrath of the Lich King has some very interesting boss mechanics (Twin Val'kyr immediately come to mind) and I'm hoping to not see a rehash of old fights.

I'm intrigued by the new 31-point talent trees and how they're restricted people within one tree for specialization. I think that it's a fairly positive step, since it ensures that enough points are placed in a single tree in order to hopefully snag the talents that would make people most effective in their chosen roles. Hybridization hasn't been acceptable since The Burning Crusade and even then it was only for a handful of select classes and roles (such as the touted 23/38/0 hybrid Spirit-centric priest).

I am, however, a bit worried regarding the role Discipline priests will be playing come Cataclsym. By examining the new 31-point talent tree it appears that the tree will play a true hybrid role (a handful of DPS talents are required in order to progress deep enough into the tree for requisite healing talents and our talented smart heal requires DPS to even work), which is not something that I'd like to pursue. I play primarily a healing role in our raids and my raid needs me to perform well in order to be successful. I've managed to make a nice little niche -- and name! -- for myself as a phenomenal Discipline priest in raids, but I'm afraid that I can't maintain that level of performance as the tree is currently.

Feral druids, though! Phew. Man oh man, is it going to be nice. Looking at the trees are they are currently, I only needed two points outside of the Feral tree in order to maximize my performance. Two points. As a result, I was able to pick up every noteworthy talents in the Feral tree, allowing me to play both a DPS and tanking role with a single build -- a feat that cannot be effectively done with the current talent trees, all joking about so-called "hybrid" druids aside. I won't know what to do with my druid's offspec come Cataclysm, since she's currently Feral/Feral.

I just remembered: Didn't they say, they only want items with only attributes on them? No critical strike rating anymore and stuff like that?

The return of the Defias. Beltharean and I have an idea or two for that.

Goblin's and their rocket packs. I'm definately making one. ROCKET PACKS! With the new server core, hopefully the rocket boots will work too. Just imagine it, *goblin runs off at super-speed to a cliff, and upon reaching it, jets off the cliff, sailing over the jagged rocks and landing in the sea below, safe under his parachute cloak to avoid the belly flop pain, smooth as James Bond*

Anybody guessed what my new Goblin character will be? A weak, gadget-centric, Goblin ^^

Can anybody say *dun duh dlun dun, duh dun dun* No. You can't. Because it's a theme, and not a vocal.

AN inspector gadget goblin?

Though in truth I think I'm most excited just to return to Azeroth. I started playing WoW long ago enough to remember Burning Crusade blowing things up as the new expansion. Azeroth, the places, and music and sights to see. It has all the nostalgia for me. It's what made me like WoW in the first place.

I can't wait to see it re-born.

I think that his comments are what really makes the video. "I was actually kinda hoping that there'd be like a red smear or something when I missed the target."

  • I for one will be sleeping better now that the Plaguelands have begun to be purified of the Plague.
  • I am looking forward to seeing how the Forsaken / Argent Crusade relations pan out now that their next door neighbors.
  • The Night Elf storyline is perhaps the one I'm most eager for.

Garrosh Hellscreem here, he reminds me of a new Orgrim Doomhammer, and I will be honest... I kinda dislike Thrall a lot. I used to love him, but Doomhammer was the best of the best, I mean come on!

Anyway, apart from that I am looking forward to seeing Horde domination in a lot of areas, Goblins and all of that jazz... Besides Azshara becomes Horde controlled! Good job Bildgewater Cartel for blowing up the Azshara Crater and quarrying the hell out of it! :D

And then there is of course Ashenvale going mostly to the Horde.

I am also really looking forward to either seeing if Sylvanas is actually a Dreadlord in disguise at the moment or just seriously going mad crazy, either way, I am personally hoping that Sylvanas gets put back in her place. So at the moment looking forward to seeing how Blizzard will pull her stunts off.

And then there is the Alliance side! Looks like the Barrens will finally be an open war ground! Time for me to start up my two war guilds finally, ah... good to see that Theramore is also invading the Barrens! :D Probably Varian managed to convince Jaina or something since Garrosh is now the Warchief, we'll see soon or something!

BUT FINALLY WAR BETWEEN ALLIANCE AND HORDE!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

And then there is the flying mounts, oh how happy Gwydd will be to be all gryphony rider etc.
Thane Gwydd: Mountain King Gwyddy
Warlord Kron: Horde Warlord
Battlecruiser Captain: Who called in the fleet?
Sir Baldwin: Knight of Stormwind

The thing that excites me about Cata is that EVERYTHING has changed. Blizz finally took off the kiddie gloves and has given the 'Old World' it's needed revamp.

I'm pretty sure everyone will be either exploring new changes to the zones and doing the new quests that Cata will bring to every zone. It's the little details in quests that I love about WoW, as well as it's lore.

Sylvanas has always been evil since turning undead. Play Warcraft 3. She hates the living for what she views as being abandoned to the Scourge (they basically were), as do most of the Forsaken and Blood Elves.

She and Arthas are alike in that they both want the entire world to suffer their curse.
Pain is an illusion.

I'm personally looking forward to the splitting of the Barrens, troll Druids and flying mounts in Azeroth. Worgen will be a welcome addition to the Alliance, but I'm curious as to how the WoW team will make this work with current lore. *crosses fingers* I hope it'll be good!

The worgen thing makes sense if you play through both the worgen starting zones and Undead (Namely Silverpine.)

Yeah, and given that the worgen are just cursed Humans, they belong among the alliance, as long as the humans are feeling tolerant.

I'm most excited about enjoying another alliance race. I've been mostly a horde player since I started playing WoW back in the spring after launch, but I really enjoyed a draenei shaman that I played, and I think I'll love my Worgen whatever just as much!

Also, who's not going to love a revamped old world? The favorite thing I've heard about Cataclysm since announcement was that (paraphrase) "We're going to get to Outland and think, 'damn, now I'm out of all that great 1-60 content.'" Can anyone recall who made that comment?
