[Suggestion] Setting the model height for your own character

Vind101 Wrote:I have wondered height for humans, because Arthas model in the caverns of time makes him taller than normal humans which I do not understand do lore figures have genetics that make them taller or what?
The Kretol is also bigger than a normal orc... you got anything to say?! Evil
Just kidding... the idea is that this is a game, therefore it should affect the player's mind somehow. WoW wasn't designed especially for RP, therefore, the bosses and lore figures gotta look important with their size, their armors, weapons, etc. This is why he's bigger than a normal human, I suppose. And the proper height for humans is what our models are, I believe. :)

Also, great idea. Hebry's gonna get his taller look and finally look big, as he should! :)

EDIT: And someone dares to write faster than me... shame on you! Evil

I always assumed this was just an Ingame thing that allowed you to see the important lore figures easilly in a crowd of enemies or at a distance. I mean, for example, Arthas is smaller in 5 man game content than 20 man. And Jaina isnt the size of a tauren as she is in icecrown. :)

Anywho, I...Absolutely love this idea, Would love to see some Roided up warriors and evil, skittery little warlocks running around the place :) as long as it was only small variations. ^^

Effectively this.
Bosses are only larger for hte sake of the player.
Lore-wise? Same height.

Awesome idea and I love that it's being implemented!! xD

Alright!

People can now use the .scale command to set their own height, using a value anywhere between 0.9 and 1.1. Keep in mind that you can change your scale only FIVE TIMES after initially setting it. This will be bumped up to 10 times after the next restart, but for now, be careful when trying to choose a size.

Edit: And yes, the value does stick permanently.

A lot of people have been asking how to determine which numbers to use with the new scale. Rather than explain over and over, I figured that it would be beneficial to post a reply here. The assumed in-game base height for each race and gender combination is based on our heights chart.

The equation is:
New_height ÷ Base_height = Scale_modifier.

Say that we have an orc male. Picking a random profile, we have a character that is 7'2" (86 inches). Now, our chart says that the orc male in-game is 6'6" (78 inches).

86 ÷ 78 = 1.10

So our intrepid orc male would use .scale 1.1 in order to get a character in-game height that mimics 7'2".

Please note that there are two things to keep in mind when using the equation. First, the heights must both have the same units. So if you wish to use meters, the Base_height and New_height must both be in meters. Furthermore, if you wish to use feet you should convert feet into inches. This is because 7'2" is not the same as 7.2 and sometimes people bugger those up.

How 'bout another example?

There is a dwarven female. According to her profile she stands a mighty 4'6" (54 inches), though the character model in-game is assumed to be 4'7" (55 inches). What scale modifier should we use?

54 ÷ 55 = 0.98

So our dwarven female wishing to stand 4'6" should use .scale 0.98 to get the height indicated by her profile.

Oh nice, Piro, thanks for the equation, this will help make things a lot easier. Always there to help, you are. Yoda speech.

Where can we find the base heights for the ingame models?
#28
Just like what Piroska said, the Base Height Guildines on the wiki, Scoutnub. :3

Thanks! I just scaled my character up to resemble a nice 1.80 cm. Sure makes me feel tougher. ^^

Link provided as well. Keep in mind that this is an assumption. However, it's a fairly reasonable one and it's also something to which we already scribe when we roll our characters.

1.80 cm? That's, uh, fairly small. That's about the tip of your thumb to the first knuckle of that finger.
