Updating to Cataclysm

True... I'd argue, however, that the approval process should be not at all easy. Make it painfully difficult to get approved. Make people not -want- to apply, unless they're certain that their idea should be allowed. Keep the ideas restricted to those who are willing to fight for their idea, and can answer any questions about it. If any answer given isn't seen as good enough by a GM, they should be able to reserve the right to deny the plan without a true explanation as to why.

Edit- similar to the difficulty of the approval process of the first prestige system. You know, the one that so few people got into? Maybe not -that- difficult, but somewhere in that range.

I'd rather see that we keep how it is now, people can create storylines as they please but if they are uncertain if it would mesh with lore or if it would be something the GMs would like to see they send it in to one of the Content GMs who then can discuss and dis/approve.

Something that would be more interesting would be to see content GMs given more freedom to create events with widespread consequences. Be it events taking out towns that disappear in Cata or custom events. The only big issue is to make sure they actually go through with it and don't let any event just die out, but I believe that can easily be fixed by cooperation among several GMs so it doesn't just rely on any one person.

I'm liking this right here, I'm really loving it. Our own lil wow. That'll be epic, but perhaps we could take a few events from cata anyway. Right now, though, if we do it, I've been working on "modding" the world its self, and adding zones. The thing is, -if- we do this, and we change the world to our taste, we'll need to patch. Custom patches, and we'll all have to download em, etc etc.. so do we keep the world as it is? That would be fine, but less cool..

Other than that.. cata is awesome! Twilight hammer, and stuff, new zones are awesome too. Do we wanna let that slip through our fingers?

If we make our own story line, we'll have to open up on the "what we can and cannot play" The new race/class combos will be needed, and I am sure many people do actually want to be able to pick a Blood Elf warrior, Gnome Priest, Troll Warlocks and druids etc etc.. because they bring more variety to the lore within it's self. Also, Sylvanas being able to make new undead? That's something that we can't let slip either. The new Horde too. Finally orcs being more brutal. It just makes sense.. there are too many "Thrall" like orcs who are happy to be chillin' with human buddies, and too many Jaina/Tirion humans who have chosen to forgive and forget the years of sorrow the Horde has brought upon them. Blood Elves that have forgotten how the humans cast them out, or that don't care that it was Arthas who slaughtered them all. Etc etc...

Modding the world? What?

No, I think they were talking about Alliance taking over Horde Lands, just spawnable stuff. No craters, or such. No mods needed.

Edit.

Custom patches have allways been a pain in the ass to deal with, but if will be stuck on the same patch anyway, it might be something to consider.

It wouldn't be easy, and it would take a lot of help from everyone in the community, but I think that we could do custom patches. I think it would be amazingly fun to add in zones and areas that we are currently stuck using somewhere as an OOC representation, and finally get an IC place on the map for them.

Like I said, however, it would not be easy. I think, though, that if we all work together, we could do it. This, of course, depends upon whether or not we do upgrade to Cataclysm.

But why not? To create our own storyline would be amazing. But to change the idea a bit, why not make it so everyone puts in their own idea's on what happens next. Everyone can make/add their idea's to a pool and have a select group create a new lore from it. Sure we can edit it on the way, but it would work, no?

I think we're getting our hopes up a little too much. We don't even know if we'll be able to do this, until it's been decided whether or not we'll upgrade to Cata. I say, keep the ideas coming, but don't get too excited yet.

I remember Kret saying he's not switching cores again. Meaning, that cramming a "custom" patch onto this core isn't something that'd be easy to do, -nor- would it be... smart.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I thought he said he'd rather not have to, but I don't recall him making it a 100% no. May just be me, though.

I don't know if custom patches would be a good idea. I mean, did you see what happened to McKnighter? :B

Aye, you get custom patches you get custom glitches that will trap you forever.

Like what happened to Rigley. His game crashed whenever a male night elf was close to him or in the zone :B

Well, IF, and I say it's a strong if, we can find or create one that would actually work, we should try it out. Maybe create a test realm to try them out on? Now it would take for ever so I doubt anyone would do it, but it is a option, no?
