In Character Economy
#61
Nahwe might be able to sell leather, meat and even bones from southern Kalimdor. Problem might be to actually by from since he wouldn't hang in Ratchet to sell it. Perhaps another hand in the chain of trade?

Edla would offer blacksmithing services and in the future runecrafting for modest prices or sometimes even for free in Ironforge or Stormwind.

Gamba offer voodoo services but wouldn't accept coin, why would anyone need a chunk of soft metal?

Loknir and members of Ironhilt offer alot of various services and things, imagination is the limit.

Kithlen would possible be hired as a merc, if you are respectible enough and the pay if more than fair.

Crank is a mechanic and offer that service for a few coins.

Clovis will be paying 10-15 Silver pieces per mercenary for his events.

Hint: In my opinion, in regards to cost of required necessities like food, water, and lodging, 15 silver is enough to support yourself for a week and longer.

I always saw this idea of an IC Economy as a way to bring about even more possibilities in RP. Great ideas have been mentioned here and there and they're usually kind of hard to get running. The novelties, that these new items are, helps out a bit, but the overall process is still pretty rough. Peronsally, I've seen multiple ideas I thought would be a neat addition to the server.

Nobody may use the items just yet, but I'm sure all it needs is one person/group/guild/whathaveyou to sprearhead the use of these items and we may soon see them in more places across the server. With some of the ideas discussed so far, it becomes just that much easier to put this Economy on its feet.

- It lags the server. Hard.
- They become unused in about a week or so
- It's hard, takes a lot of skill and time
- In the end, it's not worth the time.

My opinion. And, some taken of the GM commentary of similar ideas.

Well, this are things that could be fix

-Don't edit the shop to hard, use an edited shop already
-Remove NPC's inside, and replace it with players, or atleast 1 vendor that takes IC currency for stuff in the shop
-Only take dedicated people to run the shop ofcource, let them make a business profile, so they put lot of effort in it.
-It helps the ingame economy a lot!

I actually got an idea, which I will probably be chased with knives, pitchforks and torches for.

If the clothes shop in WSG gets removed and everyone (not only leveled grunt characters) receive a small amount of money in the start (like 50s, for example, and the big coins stay for the grunts), this could develop a clothes business.

So, now go to the same shop, get yourself a shirt and scary looking hat, then buy a pitchfork or a torch from the undead lady on the entrance and chase me!

An IC economy! YEEEESSSSSS! When I was playing retail I had an...ahem...resource acquisition company >_>...<_< and for like a week we had an awesome oligopoly going on basic materials, we made a killing until the invisible hand of the market broke up our shinanigans, plus the infinite resources wreaked havok on prices when someone would undercut us.

Being a fan of Austrian Economics and noticing that you mentioned submitting a business ticket and someone else asking about the prices of basic commodoties, I have some pressing questions!

FIAT CURRENCY

I'm not disagreeing with the concept of submitting your business ideas and waiting aproval by the GMs but consider that a free market, regulates itself. Shoddy business's will quickly go under...but in this case where food and shelter are not required and operating costs are minimal they won't exactly go under, but they may be greatly discouraged! Do you think that submitting a ticket will harm the natural competition of the market?

The only new currency that gets circulated into the economy is from when players start they're new business, and when you transition from peon to grunt. Besides the currency that is on the market, and the currency currently being distributed via NPC and GM, do you plan on circulating any more currency into the market?

With constant generation of this currency, have you considered inflation?

Have you considered that actually giving money to business for start up will cripple certain occupations? Such as lending and the like, I think a money lender would be an awesome thing to RP.

An essential part of a developing economy is competing currencies. In a free market there are usually multiple currencies circulating at a time, there are many factors to they're value. Considering that this is fiat money, are you going to prohibit any new currencies from popping up on the market? Regional or other wise? (i.e. Stormwind Farthing, Eastern Kingdom's bank note, etc)

No copper? I know you were only considering not to put copper in but that would only mean that silver would replace copper. A pint of ale will be worth 5 copper, if you take away copper the least people can charge is 1 silver. This will mean you will either have to produce alot more silver to devalue the currency, or it will be a sluggish transition where consumption will go down until there is enough silver to buy things like ale, and at that point it will have pretty much the value of 5 copper.

Price Fixin' n' stuff

In today's government it is illegal for multiple corporations to collude with each other and fix prices, because its "unfair". What is the level of...GM intervention going to be like?

Can multiple companies collude to fix prices on certain commodities? In the defense of price fixing, with such an open market it would be incredibly easy to break a oligopoly of price-fixers.

Unfortunately the IC currency wasn't re-implemented after restart so the IC economy is virtually dead. I've seen some people using OOC gold as a substitute but otherwise there is currently no system in place for IC currency.

Which makes Clovis a sad panda.

Amerason thought up an idea. He uses IC money using GHI. I don't feel like going back through this thread to find if that's been posted. Every time his character Gwydd got a contract, and fulfilled it, he'd use GHI to make the appropriate coinage. I assume everytime he went to an inn, and got a drink he removed the appropriate coinage as well.

Awww...I am dissapoint. :(

GHI gold is not a bad idea at all. It would be highly replicable and subject to monstrous inflation with no money sinks but GHI gold can just be a less valuable currency :D

So there is the actual in-game gold which has its own value, then there is this GM currency, and then there is a GHI currency?

Any hopes of attempting to rekindle this fire? :(((
