Clarification: the Light, holy power, and the Church

Who ever said I don't shrug away stuff that I think is just game mechanics of WoW? Hehe, I do that too, it's just that since the RPG books are now pretty old and for a long time were regarded as rather outdated (I don't know if that opinion has changed here, I certainly still see them as pretty outdated) and the way it is phrased makes me think of it as something added in not because of any tie-in with Warcraft lore but because it's been used by DMs in D&D to great effect in the past.

I'm not dismissing it as a cool idea to play with for a storyline, but I wouldn't take it as evidence that there are divine sentient beings.

So the power we know as 'holy' power isn't truly divine in origin. It comes from the wellspring of power inside of the priest himself, but only so long as he believes in the power of his creed. Meanwhile, paladins' power is not the same kind as priests' power, but rather, by some yet-to-be-discovered reason and method, they take power from the Naaru. Correct?

Why, then, does a paladin lose his powers when he commits evil? I understand why a priest's powers would be stripped from him - his belief in his purity would be shaken, and thus, his power would be cut off. He believes he won't be able to (or perhaps, worthy of) calling upon the god/power/creed of his choosing. Yet to my knowledge, priests are NOT stripped of their power if they do evil. Instead, the paladins - who do NOT require faith to use their power - are stripped of their power if they knowingly commit evil. What sense does that make?

And why, if 'holy' magic is not truly 'good' in origin, but rather, procured through discipline...well, why does non-godly 'holy' magic burn demons and undead?

Keep the answers coming! At this rate, I might be able to roll a pally! :D
Lumji Hammergrin [Gnome Warrior] - weapons-master, body-builder, tactical expert and avid boxer!
Tigris Coldeye [Orc Rogue] - Scourge-hunter and master of subterfuge!
Ja'kari'fon [Troll Shaman] - paranoid witch doctor, aspiring Shadow Hunter, and tavern-troll!

I, for one, utterly refuse to accept a paladin's power has always come from the naaru. Or na'aru. However you spell it.

Allow me to clarify, here.

The only paladins (as far as I know) who do not need to maintain faith are the Blood Knights, who draw their power from the sunwell instead of faith.

Perhaps the Naaru are symbols of the Light. Perhaps.

But one need not worship the Naaru to use the powers of the Light. It is faith power manifest to most paladins (save Blood Knights). And this faith power stays with them so long as they believe what they are doing is good.

Mind you, this is opinion.

With love,
The Playerbase.

Anna's sparklepowers come from her freckles, thank you.
