When RPing becomes a chore.

When I get this, I just begin to roll whatever comes to mind or do some events, hence my series of random events. Really, this rarely works, but I do it anyways. /shrug

Okay, continuing the additional feedback. Again, I am truly appreciative of everyone's comments, and I'm glad to get to know your characters too! <3

To Rosencrat:

I'm actually rather sad you're getting tired of playing Marianna, because all my attempts in trying to follow the storyline have fallen short due to not being able to catch up. But I understand your sentiments catching up to playing her for so long. I guess my idea on trying to follow your storyline through Torr and Urameil won't happen XD.

Moriok, Moriok.... sounds very, very familiar. I think I RPed with her once, but I can't remember if it's through Kapre or any of my Horde characters. The only thing I can recall is that she's an orc. But nothing's coming to me :(.

To Reigen:

I actually look up to you on how you RP a single character. For a time I seriously considered not bothering to create alts because all I wanted to RP as is Kapre and just Kapre. That didn't last long, and come the time I became a grunt, I eventually I became an altaholic... but even -that- didn't last long.

I really admire how you manage to spin every situation to Reigen's advantage as far as RP activity goes, and for that reason I strived to do similarly with Kapre. It was largely a success; Kapre can use his matchmaking business as a justification on why he's socializing with people you wouldn't think a derpy gentle giant would (I still get a lot of "...why is Kapre a part of the Lost Minded?" comments XD). Of all the characters I've met on COTH besides perhaps Thragash and Gunnar, Reigen is among the very few whom I know the most well, primarily because she is the first regularly met friend of Kapre's, and one whom I won't worry too much of disappearing anytime soon. Reigen has a great appeal to me as a character, and for that reason I enjoy drawing her too. You can sorta tell Reigen is a favorite for me because of how Kapre acts around her--he shows little to no fear to her even when she's genuinely scary (well, save that one time with Aeda) despite his trademark cowardice, and he shows a lot of care and concern for Reigen, her relationship with Krilari, and the care of their unborn baby. Despite their initial meeting, Kapre really cares for Reigen.

Of all my characters with a recurring lover, Kapre--my matchmaker and counsellor in love--is the one who stays with his mate the least often and, thus, suffers the most from it. He has his business as my IC reason on why he's separated from Vylian so much, as well as Vylian's IC storyline in traveling to improve her alchemy and for her writing. I can't keep up with that forever, however; I really would like Kapre to be open to pursue other romantic interests without having to stick to just one who can't be there all the time. Maybe once they've broken up, Kapre would swear off mateship forever. He's lost the love of his life once already.

To Etmosril 2:

I have plenty of alts who do need a reason to be someplace, but they tend to be "bit" characters. An example is Bastos, who is mostly there to stir up trouble if an RP with a character in the opposite account is getting a little too quiet. He's also there to goad my storyline forward as he is the main villian's stand-in for issuing commands on his behalf. Other than that, Bastos hardly ever sees the light of RP, and that's fine by me. I have way too many alts on just two accounts, so I'm not hurting when he sits there and collects dust.

Diawata, as she is my second main, needs more reason to be out there. I'll go by Grak's suggestion and see how I can insert the "why is my character here" reasoning behind her RP.

To Xigo:

Maybe this is why it's hard for me to keep track of you when we do appear in an RP situation--I can't identify you when you're there XD. The only ones I can recall are Yui, Xigo, and Dagrim; there may be others I cannot recall. Of all the ones you listed, I remember Yui the most, and she's one whom Kapre feels very comfortable and happy to be around. To be honest, when Yui and Kapre first met, I thought of having Kapre pursue Yui as a love interest. And then... yeah. So much for that. Even if I do break Kapre up, he may no longer bother to stay with any female. His heart's too broken to try XD.

Dia does bring some spice in RPs through her vanity and vapidness; however, not everyone can pick that up. The closest I got to really good RP wherein her negative (but positive for me) traits were a focus of RP was in a meeting with Reigen; you could -really- lick the distaste Reigen and Diawata have for each other. But, as I said with others, I'll give this method a try. Dia has to have something to add to RP beyond what I mentioned, and I thank you for your offer.

To FlyingSquirrel:

This is perhaps why I have so many alts I don't touch XD.

I'm going through this with Ural. It's not that I don't have motivation, as he was just promoted to manage of his guild and with the upcoming Dun Morogh event, but other characters have taken the spotlight at the moment.

Valda is wrapped up in all sorts of RP going every which-way and is currently my main. Even though she was created for a temporary reason, she is still amazingly fun to RP with.

I RP my characters in cycles. Uneven, lopsided and biased cycles.
The true test of his choice lies forward.

Whilst Xigo might have three accounts filled with character for every situation, I have three accounts filled with characters for a very different reason.

I make a lot of characters.

Why's this? I tend to get bored of them after some time. I get a good idea in my head, I create it and morph it into something new but then when something comes along which I really enjoy and then it disappears I just lose the drive to play that character in an average setting. It happens all too often with me, mostly due to my time zone and the people I RP with being on the other side of the world. Sleep patterns and such.

Sebastien, my oldest character on CotH, is now rarely RPed. I use to RP him a lot, he was lots of fun but now he has run his course, he went from a borderline poor Engineer to a wealthy and highly successful Tinker/Handyman over the course of RP. It was lots of fun and now I should let him have his rest.

I don't know if it's just me, but I will start rping and then all of a sudden I have the urge to draw, and draw, and draw.

It's like a craving/addiction, I guess. I even want to doodle something right now and I have yet to even eat or fully wake up.

I had a few iterations of Jidaeo. First he was a warlock, then hunter. When I was grunted I rolled a DK because I always wanted one on retail. Due to my availability pre-restart he snowballed RP and I'd mainly bounce between Him and Raphael because they were stark opposites. Jid being condescending, poised and snooty, while Raphael was abrasive, loud, confrontational and ignorant. After a while I played Jidaeo similar to Reigen, all the time. Everywhere, and always into something. The only thing that sucks for me with having one main though was when that character dies....RP is over. So when my main faced death I acted irrationally. Because honestly what am I going to do without the character I get all my RP on? My only reason for being here.

It was towards the end of that run, and around the restart that I looked at my characters differently. Though I have favorites, I use most of them as puppets to tell a story. Characters to influence others, and vice versa to intertwine through drama, suspense, intrigue and what have you. If they die another character from a different walk of life will tell his/her story. No harm no foul.

But I also have the same issue as bounty. I make alts constantly, usually based on ideas, or concepts that pop into my mind that I'd like to see manifested. Some become intriguing while others fade away and hold up a slot on my char select screen. Only now or at least a few months ago have I been trying to branch out from those I usually RP with. For variety and to get back into the community to see all the other different types of RP and flavors I have been missing on. It has been enjoyable, but sometimes difficult as people are reluctant to open up to new chars willingly. It makes you almost prefer to RP with those who know your characters well enough to be pulled by subtle changes in your char or the story. I love RPing with as much people as I could, but I would prefer 4- 9+ people who become tight knit and forge adventure, story, conflict, and all around intriguing RP.

This keeps happening to me -all- the bloody time, really.

My very first character was Rakiah, the local healer for the Clash Company traveling gladiator ring.
It was fun, each event was incredible. But along came the day that the ringleader got eaten by a giant silithid.
And that sucked.
Slowly after that, my interest in RPing Rakiah decreased, and just before I faced the Chasm of "Oh dear, my only character is boring me, what am I going to do now?", the magnificent idea of Alywien Starwing came to mind. I wrote Alywien in one month, and approved her in 3 days, crowning her as -the- crown jewel of all my five profiles. Alywien was a nomad, so she moved from place to place, providing me with good RP, be it brutal combat as a very dedicated DK, or spiritual and philosophical conversations, as the point of view of someone as old as she was! Events, guilds, more events, more guilds. But Alas, that happened to her as well. Being the dedicated Death Knight that puts zealots to their final rest was fun. Until the zealots stopped coming. Or the zealots weren't zealous enough to accept a duel to the death.

Along came the spider: Demitrius [Or Frederich].
Demitrius was created to be an old veteran who does nothing by womanising all day, and drinking all night.
But that womanising habit turned him into so much more, and to watch him evolve so greatly was a delight.

After a year or so, his services stopped being required. The players move on. And he is left without much purpose, so I returned him to his womanising. As a traveling bounty hunter, he doesn't -need- a reason to be -anywhere- on the map. In fact, it became both an OOC and an IC joke, that where there are women, there is a Demitrius, ready to buy them all their drinks.

But one can only have so many Blood Elves, as a Human. It got boring. So I twisted it again. Demi's in middle age, and he hates half-breeds. So it's time to hunt down a Human, for a change!
And that proved to be quite the challenge, since even through -ooc- arranged things, it just plain failed! Which is honestly -very- amusing to write, read, and play out in the wonderful medium that is World of CotHLand.

While I put Demitrius is so many periods of retirement, because I felt it became redundant, I created some other victims, that suffered the same fate, of being forgotten in my drawer, and in CotH's profile section:

Lizzy - Who was actually created -before- Demi, but failed because of the fact that at her time of creation, merchant RP was... far from common. Especially in Stormwind.

Willow - Who was originally created as a living version of Alywien, but also became so much more. Sadly, I simply find no place for her anymore.

And my unprofiled: Evahazak. Who has a place, has a personality. He's a Demonifuge soldier who helped around once in the Bad Business events. But for some reason... His half-made profile remains such. I lost the desire to write him.

Currently Demitrius is dead, because I am considering what to do with him.
Alywien is ... Well, she's in the AW. But I find it difficult, despite how great the RP is, to find it in me to want to do it.

After the Reset, I used Rakiah.. -Once-. And didn't touch her since then.

Since the Bubonic Bay events, I haven't touched Willow, either.
I keep Lizzy for entertaining, random RP, mainly as a junk char who can serve as any role.

...I wrote a lot. Oopsies.

TL;DR - It happens. Evolve, and let the chips fall where they may!

There comes a time in every writers life where they realize that sometimes a character should be retired or changed in some way. And by retired I mean that character should take a dirt nap. Whether it's permanent is up to the creator, but when I decide to end a character (by my own accord, not say in a death duel/character warning situation), it's usually permanent.

Let me give you my prime example, my character Mordus (who before the server reset was known as Rince). Before the server reset he was a rogue named Rince, but then he went a little crazy out of the blue (this was not planned, I got bored with how he was) and he ended up dead. When the server reset occurred last year I decided to take the evil part of Rince and renamed him Mordus, who some of you may know as that sadistic evil warlock that I tended to get carried away with when it came to the sadism. It got to a point where I got bored with him and began trying to do even more evil and shocking things with the character in order to try and regain my interest, but this ended up making things worse (and in some cases getting innocent little me into trouble!). So, I came to the conclusion that I should just stop RPing him and have him die forever.

Then I took a hiatus from COTH.

Now, you don't have to do something as extreme as I did. But you could have Dia's character start to change. Maybe she could become less of a b***h and a bit more open minded towards the Horde.
Pain is an illusion.
