Argus Wash-Up
#31
I've supped from the goblet of evil intent.

I've dwelled in the cathredals of all that is good and holy.

I've rested carelessly upon cushions while light and dark raged war.

I've committed lesser evils for the greater good.

I've been selfish and sacrificed others to benefit myself.

And I've given myself up in order to save someone I've never met before.

Through roleplay I have seen all of these sorts of 'characters'. From Ara'Gazhi to Versich. From Dagrim to Sindri. From Paota to Mundo. Perhaps you've never met these characters before, but, eh, to me they are different enough and enjoyable to roleplay. Which is a key point. Every one of these characters were fun to roleplay.

Sure, the morally grey character is lovely and all. You get all that cute little 'I'm not evil but I do evil for good' stuff going on. It's fun. Sure.

And acting as the good guy in a storyline is also pretty fun. Helping kittens from trees and what not. The innocence (or hardcore zealotry) is really enjoyable to roleplay!

But so is being someone who's just a bastard. Seriously. Just being completely out for yourself or your goal and not giving a damn about everyone else is one of the funnest things I've ever roleplayed. And I really miss it. I didn't really kill people. Heck, I barely did anything. But there was an incredible sense of fun in playing a demon who wanted to benefit himself and help conquor Azeroth.

In short. BEING JUST PLAIN EVIL IS JUST PLAIN FUN!

Back to the subject at hand, why not combine the two? The family fights to keep itself safe, and ultimately turns to darker powers to support itself. Perhaps some members of the household are against it as some are corrupted to believe in the Legion's cause, and thus believe that they could use the power of the Legion to become more powerful than they ever were in the past.

Both.

You change the guild to how you want it, and you change your leader on how you want them to run it.

Guild should be based around the leader. It can branch out from the leader, which happens when more unique and potent personalities (i.e. other player characters) join in. But its the ideals, goals, and beliefs of the leader that give purpose to the guild.

So, make a guild based around the character you want to play. I'd say the rest is frankly irrelevant so long as you're having fun.

Edit: Yeah. I choose a side but I totally mean the same thing as Anski more or less.

Screw it, let's do that.

For the last two days I’ve been rolling around the idea of Argus Wake-Lite. It would have more character development, more casual RP and more moral ambiguity. It would have like-able villains with honest reasons for their cruelty and events centered around helping elevate a sad little family to power.

And then I realized I’m not a blithering, heart-swollen fool and burned that idea in the same pit that I burn intercepted Christmas toys and my sense of pity.

I made Argus Wake because I wanted a guild that did the same as the actual lore organization. I wanted to make an evil guild, a guild that worships power and mortal desires. Our mission statement will involve words like ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Gold Castles’ and our interviewing process will revolve around whether you can pull off Winter-toned uniforms and laughing for long periods without pause.

This weekend the Bisen Family’s standing as an influential noble house will be, and I do not use this term lightly, killinategeddoned. Marianna is going to start dusting off her old book on ‘Fel Evocation’ and she’s going to give her kids a stern ultimatum: Either you help your dear old mother wage war against the Status Quo or you start learning how to wear an Argent Crusader’s tabard.

The changes? Marianna (and by extension the guild's activities) will be less cartoonish and more the manipulative and realistic, skills that an honest WoW Villain Organization demands. The guild’s scope will be expanding as well, with the villainy not relegated (at least on the surface) to the glorification of the Legion. Events will also be more prolific, with a focus on crafting stories and rewarding player skill over how lucky you are at rolls.

Why? Because that’s what a World of Warcraft Villain Group would do and I’ll be damned if I am going to challenge Blizzard’s firm grasp of game lore.

Also, just an aside:

We're adding a little twist to the usual Argus Wake dynamic for the sake of increasing out believability and purpose. Senseless evil this shan't be.

I am anticipating Alucard-Dracula family dynamics.

DON'T DISAPPOINT ME.
Your stories will always remain...

I just experienced something evil. It was... outstanding yet, painful.
