Rowgen Refreshes; What am I like?
#1
EDIT: I decided to update my thread here!

  1. As a roleplayer?
  2. As a member of the community?
  3. As a GM?

What do you, my fellow CoTHians, think of me? Is there anything I've improved, or is there anything I should improve? What am I doing good, and what could I do better? As a game master, am I giving you the help you need, or does it take too long? Too little at a time?

In case anyone wonders, my best known characters are;

Linevi Duskfeather, my Night Elf Priestess.

Phelan Briarthorn, my Gilnean nobleman.

Thrak, my Orc Spirit Champion-to-be.

Charland, my Alteracian Bandit Knight.

I think you know these questions by now, but go ahead. I'm all ears. :)

I think your hat is funny, but you are a very snappy dresser.

1. Haven't RPed with you

2. Don't really pay attention to things like that, but I will in the future

3. If I recall correctly, you've helped me with a few of my profiles, so that's pretty sweet. The tips and help you gave was very, well, helpful!

You need to actually devote time to RP to me your scandinavian kindred and someone that roams the same timezone.

1. We should RP more. We hardly do

2. You're a bro. No, really, you are.

3. What are you doing, taking time to be a -person-? Silly Forum Helper, get back to work! You're doing just fine.

1. We didn't ever 1-1 RP. So I can't really say much.
2. You are warm, which is good.
3. I think you are doing your job, so it's just fine.

1. As a roleplayer, I have only had extensive RP with Malachai (I can't say that I've RP'd enough around Kag'rin to warrant feedback on him) and it felt difficult. This may just be a result of the inherent obstacles that come with Forsaken RP, and I know play with Lobelia can be extremely short-lived, but even with Astor it felt like I had to work to get our scene anywhere. I'm glad you've reached out to me to work on your Skype/Long-text RP skills, and I did put a challenge in there with Hadassah, but it also felt like it was mostly me moving the story along. Next time, I'd like to see you participate in adding more action and direction in where our scene is going and what our characters are doing. Ending this Q on a positive note, from what I've seen I enjoy the character of Malachai. Should you wish, I will provide a further "live" feedback after we RP next.

2. You're a kind and thoughtful individual, and those are qualities I greatly appreciate. As for what you can improve, it's something I also have a problem with but I think you have a case worse than I! You tend to get very, very upset if personal opinions of you may have changed. On its own, that's not really a bad thing and we all (well, most of us, I can't speak for everyone) want to be liked, but you've apologized to me for thirty minutes before (and even after having the apology accepted two minutes into the discussion). You just seem delicate in this regard, my sweet little sloth. Similar to the above feedback answer, I am always open to talk with you about this, my friend.

3. I'd say you're doing well at your job. You're on point and you try to be as fair as you can. I also think you strive to phrase your feedback in a constructive build-up (rather than destructive tear-down) manner, and that is a skill.

Hey there Rowgen!

As a roleplayer?
As a member of the community?
As a forum helper?

The above are the three points from post #1. Let us begin:

As a roleplayer, you're great, always have been. However it's been a rare opportunity to RP with you outside of events in the past. I know that may be due to timings, or the fact that those events were large and took long amounts of time to prepare; yet still, some downtime and chilled out RP could be in order. Of course, you've helped me since I've come back ease myself into RP, and while that didn't go as smoothly as I'd hoped, the experience was great, and I'd love to RP more! And write longer sentences. That was a joke, as if that was possible.

As a member of the community? Well you're a GM now, and that reflects exactly what you deserve for all the work and effort you put in around here. Jolly good show and all that!

Point three now seems invalid due to point two. C'est la vie.

Overall: Lovely. Wonderful could also be used.

Well, oddly enough, we've been friends for...six months now. And we haven't RP much all that time. Thus, I can't really offer you any healthy feedback on the quality of your RP - though I am sure it's quite good - but I'll just say that as a person, as a member of the community, you are a great person. You've helped me personally through some tough stuff I've had to go through these last couple of months, but you're not friendly to just me. You're just...generally a friendly, nice, pleasant person to be around.

Keep it up, and please stick around. Hug

...this doesn't look like it belongs in a feedback thread, but what the hell. I got emotional.
Active Characters:
Velennia - Anchorite. Has a strange liking for tea.
Vynthia Blackfire - Magistrix. Craves sightseeing.
Vanessa Briarthorn - Seemingly timid housewife. Enjoys painting.

I haven't interacted with you much personally, but you're the kind of person who, if you had lived in my college dorm and I had made cookies, I would come by to offer you some.

Rowgen is swell!

(Stuff below is 100% pointless, you shouldn't even read it!)

Spoiler:
As far as I've concerned, and ignoring any bias I may be harboring at the moment, you excel in all three of the tenets - as a person, a roleplayer and a GM.

As a GM, you're probably one of the best in my mind. You make up for any newness with commands with sheer kindness - your initiative and courage (I seriously doubt I could ever perform such an impromptu service as you did) in helping out with my event was something I won't ever not appreciate, especially after some of the nail-biting close calls I put you through. Knowledge about the game's commands is something that I value far less than the more human and organisational element of being a GM ( coming from someone who's memorised and spawned almost every damn doodad that exists in Starcraft 2) - which you carry in humbling amounts. I almost feel bad that you didn't shout at me a little for my unpreparedness.

The fact that you came forward of your own volition to someone who's essentially a newcomer speaks volumes about your work ethic and, ultimately, that you care about the community. For the community's sake, I can only hope that you never turn to the dark side of grumpiness! I haven't had the opportunity to see any events run by you, but I at least know you started up the Deadeye Watchers - which has become one of the cornerstones of Horde RP, with or without Kag'rin, and has successfully dragged Hordies from the pits of Booty Bay to places as far off as Ashenvale!

As an RPer, it's hard to fairly judge, considering my RPs with you have all been with my favorite character. That said, the most fun I've had since returning has been in the interactions with Vedajo and Thrak, as well as the more recent Pohatu. We haven't RP'd enough for me to get any patterns in how you RP, but you shouldn't have any worries about your ability to do so!

Your characters are distinct yet - and I've gotta stress this as possibly the best thing - also normal. With Thrak in particular, I think your ability to make an Orc who ticks all the boxes of Orcishness, yet is still a man (Orc?) of his own, is something that does tingle me to see, even though he made Vedajo upset. The same with Pohatu - he's Tauren through-and-through, yet you're already well on the way to forging a unique mind to stick on his shoulders - one that makes Vedajo cry far less than Thrak. From my limited spottings of Chalbert I can say without fear that you've got a good handle on more than just one race's lore, and you work that knowledge into tangible, fun-to-interact-with forms.

Silliness aside, and trying to clear up the sycophancy I'm starting to smell like, there are a couple things I'd warn you of from the perspective of a non-GM. The first is that your niceness is something that can be exploited by those far more evil than myself ([Image: icon_angel.gif]), as is your proclivity to apologise - as Caravan said below.

There are more things I'd say, and I'm sure most of them have more of a point than what I've written now, but I can't think of them, so I'll just say: You go, girl.

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds,—
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
Full-nerved—still warm—too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

Don't mind my apologies too much. As a kid I had these dictator-esque teachers who indoctrinated me with apologizing profusely for everything, and I've been trying to shake it off since. :P

Honestly, hun? I've only ever had a few interactions with you, but you're really friendly, constantly active (whenever I am, anyway), and always willing to help. You're one of my favourite people on CotH, and whenever I see Thrak out and about whenever I'm RPing, I get a little excited :P

You're doing fine from what I'm seeing, even if I've only seen a little. Wise men have said throughout the centuries that if you wanna see who a person really is, you look at how they treat their subordinates, not their equals and certainly not their superiors. You're treating your subordinates quite nicely from my PoV :)
