The Next Lich King?
#61
Quote:I think we can rule Sylvanas out because it would be just as bad if she became the Lich Queen, in fact possibly worse. Blizz would need to make another expansion pack entirely or raid preventing HER from taking over the world. :P

Hmm, that is true, if Sylvanas become the next Lich Queen, how about the undead races? Will they follow her and become "undead death knights"? The Forsaken is one of the faction that is against the scourge, but they also want to spread their new plague throughout the world.

I think the developers of the game already set the story from the beginning. Well, whoever The Next Lich King/Queen, I think they will be tempted to use the frostmourne, and it will consumed him/her and we will have another raid party! :)

Thrall, at this point in OUR lore, will be cata-pwned and punted out of Orgrimmar by this point, so he won't be a TRUE affiliate with the Horde, and obviously not with the Alliance either. So he's a neutral. Jaina is affiliated with the Alliance, and so is biased towards her King, who would probably march up and kill her in her first moments, take the crown, and destroy the world. Slyvanas, well, she IS very hateful towards the Lich King, and vehemently tries to kill him in the Halls of Reflection, nearly taking Frostmourn as her own. I do believe Jaina attempts this too, and both are told they cannot. So, who is left, eh! THRALL!

Of course, on retail, this WON'T happen, unless it occurs AFTER Thrall is punted out of Orgrimmar, captured by the Alliance, and saved by OTHER green people who are possibly from another planet and can fly. In which case...er...OOOH.

I won't be suprised if they make it the Argent Cruasade commander, who'll kill all the Scourge, then himself, screaming. Oh joys. Blizzard DO know how to kill off a character, don't they! Obviously not.

Thrall is a very wise warchief. I think he knows what will happen if he takes the frozen throne. Lich King will always be a Lich King. And Thrall will not be so easy to be tempted to be one with the Lich King right? Lich King is immortal right? Now He uses Arthas as a medium, if Arthas body is destroyed, did'nt he still has the power to command anyone who uses/hold frostmourne? It is better to seal the Throne like before, and destroy Frostmourne as quick as possible!

Quote:Finally, Uther revealed that after the Lich King is slain, someone must take his place, as without a ruler of the Scourge, the undead will destroy Azeroth.

Ruler of the undead? Who knows more about undead? Sylvanas has the power to change the undead of the Forsaken. I think She could negotiate to the mindless undead slaved by the Lich King. This could be done without taking the throne! Glory to the Forsaken! :P

The words "after the Lich King is slain", hmm, I think Arthas was the one who will be slain. Lich King? He has to be sealed again just like before once and for all!

We're forgetting that Sylvanas hates the Lich King to the core and that the thing she values most is her free will. She is undead, but do remember that Forsaken is like the United States of America for the undead. They're free willed and they are no slaves. Why would she imprison herself again to servitude as the new Lich King? She has created a kingdom out of free willed undead. She is a hero among the free willed undead already. She has responsibilities as the Queen of the Forsaken. (The main reason why I made the Knights of the Queen was to shed more light on Sylvanas' character)

I still say Darion is going to be either the Lich King or the Lich King's champion, and we're gonna find out who will be the real lich King before Cata, and not after it (So I'm really not sure about the Thrall thing). The Ebon Knights have no purpose on this earth but to destroy Arthas. They said it themselves. They don't belong to this world. That they are abominations to life. They won't be allowed into any normal society again. With his free will and the fact that he's immortal, I doubt he'd decide to just go suicide. The plausible thing is that he'll take up the mantle of his former master, knowing that he has no other purpose on Azeroth anymore. Knowing that Arthas' former Frozen Kingdom will be their only refuge (Since the living doesn't want them), I'd expect Darion to be like Sylvanas and give the Death Knights refuge in his new Scourge Kingdom. Besides..what do you think Darion will do after the Lich King dies? Be an hero?

'You seem to forget that Darion Mograinne held the exact same position in the Scourge as Arthas Menethil did before he became the Lich King. Arthas was Champion of the Scourge before becoming the Lich King, Darion was Champion of the Scourge before the Lich King's betrayal and his father helping free him from the Lich Kings bonds. In fact you could say that were Arthas failed, Darion succeeded. He may in fact be able to better wield the powers of the Lich King than Arthas could, now that he is no longer a complete slave to the Scourge like Arthas was.' -Some other source of opinion I found intriguing.

In a Blizzard interview around 3.1 when they asked what the future would entail for the Ebon Blade they said, "Someone is going to have to keep the Scourge in check." He weilded the Ashbringer as the Scourge's Champion. Unlike Tirion, their goal is vengeance. A victory for vengeance is hollow; it leave nothing left for him. After getting their vengeance what is the fate of Darion and the Death Knights? Death or 'keep the Scourge in check' the same way Uther described how someone needs to keep the Scourge in check?

And uhh...yeah. Darion was the one who thought up of or was aware of Shadowmourne. Shall he weild it officially? (Officially meaning not you, player adventurer who killed every enemy lore character) He is the only other Death Knight/Dark character able to weild the weapon...other than you, adventurer. And I doubt an adventurer would be the Lich King.

My other bets are Alexandros or Bolvar.

Now as to Alexandros Mograine, Darion's father's role in it, we do not know. He has yet to appear.

Anyway, yeah. Just explaining why I chose Darion with my two cents. :)

Your new Lich King?

The Mograine father and son are indeed intriguing.

Your new Lich King?

This one has half-convinced me actually. No lie.

We'll see though. Either one of the Mograines could work.

High Overlord Saurfang!!!

Okay, maybe not but that would be quite cool.

All serious though, what ever happened to Maiev Shadowsong? She is a potential candidate. She might believe that if she took up the Lich King's name she might actually have a reason to be instead of being just a shell after the death of Illidan.

I actually just realized something...
In Ulduar, in Yogg-Sarron's mind, the players have a vision of Icecrown Citadel. Within it, there is a Human-like prisoner. It could be Alexandros.

Here are a series of Audio Recordings from the encounter in Ulduar. The Icecrown Citadel recollection is at 3:06.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6Pht3iRq8Y

Lich King : "I will break you[Alexandros] as I broke him[Arthas]." ?

This ties into what Uther says in Halls of Reflection, where whoever takes up Ner'zhul's Crown must endure the Lich King's evil. Perhaps the Lich King is attempting to cover his bases, for he foreknows that Alexandros, or whoever that prisoner is, will be the one to take up his crown.

I don't know - just a thought.
The prisoner might also just be Bolvar Fordragon...

Bolvar. There have been side by side comparisons of the Immolated Champion from Ulduar and Bolvar Fordragon. We'll find out soon though. Just you wait.
