So are all items and rep going to be lost in the Nether? It's definitely looking that way. I spent a lot of time grinding on my characters for gear and money. It would be nothing short of depressing to have to do it all again.

Sadly, that's what'd be lost in the transfer to the new core. There isn't any way to transfer it over, as Kretol said.

You should have seen what I lost during the FULL restart in December of '08.
Oh wait...Yes you can...

Therefore it shouldn't matter if I lose my stuff too? It still bothers me.

No, what I am saying is, is that it should be the last of worries. There have been discussions how you can atleast get certain things back and yadda yadda yadda.
When it starts coming into action, you will know more. Until then? Just chillax and enjoy the server.

A question that I had totally meant to ask at the M&G, but totally forgot because I am a nub:
Is there any word on professions? For instance, if somebody has 375 blacksmithing or enchanting or something, is there a way for that to be applied to their character post-restart?

It's not something I'm stressing about, but depending on the answer, I won't necessarily spend time upping my professions over the next few weeks.

Again, once we switch cores, which will be after the restart, -everything- will be reset. I'm not entirely sure if we'll be able to bump up professions... but if it's like our ArcEmu database in that regards, it doesn't work like that.

I guess the most important to remember is: it's a game. Keep that mindset. Yes, I too have worked hard to earn the stuff I have in-game but I also realize and accept that these things happen and that such is going to ultimately benefit the community, making us that much better. As Cressy stated, it's not going to be as bad as the first restart. The staff is doing what they can to make it as painless as possible; they don't have to offer more tokens, they could make us write profiles from scratch again... and who knows what other ideas they'll come up with in the next few months, have faith in them. While it my be depressing or to some frustrating such is life, even in the gaming world.
Look at the people who have a RL restart... losing a home to a fire, going bankrupt, losing their job. Everything they worked hard for is gone, but you know what they start anew and get back to working for a better life even though they may never have their dream home again or that good credit score. The reason I bring up a harsh RL example is because again, this is a game. There's no point in getting upset or emotional because you need to go back and earn your items and gold again; you have it so very easy. The restart will be great for the server and community and in due time you'll have your items and gold back and then some. Be positive and look forward to enjoying your time on CotH.

If we could let you guys keep everything, we would. It's why we are trying to develope a way to do some sort of "RP item" tokening system.

Wait, why are we actually restarting?

I am sure there's a good reason, but could you tell me what was it again? C:

To re-set all the dern storylines we've mangled up, and abandoned.
Also, we are switching to a new core, and are gonna prepare for Cata.

Okay. Sounds reasonable. /nod.

Though, my characters won't get affected 'cause I'm never in any storylines, so I don't mind. ... Except... Helmer has a hhuuuge RP set D:

Hmm, seems 'bumping' a topic simply sets the last reply to the current date. Interesting!
Anyway, figured I'd bump this topic considering it will be happening soon - theoretically within the month. I'll be adding more information about the procedures shortly!
