Potential new Prestiges?

Quote:And i'm not rolling a prestige for the extra bonuses for combat,

Well, that's what a prestige class is. The classes deal mainly with combat. Would you hit someone with a fireball, slap them with a mace, sic a demon on them, etc. Prestige classes of DnD as they are address that subject, not whether or not you're a pimptastic tailor. That's completely redundant. If you want to be influential, RP it out. There's nobody to say you're OP because you can get people to follow your orders.

However, someone CAN say you are OP because you throw a ten foot in circumference fireball at them, or raise a battalion of ghouls to nom on you. It's OP, and that's why it's prestige. That's the whole reason for the system.

You can very well roll your cata goblin as having lots of money and power. The problem is, execution of said power. It's up to said person to execute the use of that power in a believable way, so gaining a prestige title wouldn't help you do it better. You get what I'm trying to say? Sometimes I'm terrible with explaining things. :3

I suppose, I just thought the actual process of RPing out becoming a Prestige was the fun part, not the bonuses :(

Nobody's saying you can't RP being trained at something. The IC Forum is great for that. I don't know what exactly you were looking for, (Even though you obviously want the Tinker prestige xD) but anything from "I teech u 3 kook!" or "Five Minute Abbs!" and equally engaging subjects like that can be RP'd out. You still don't need a prestige title or bonuses to do it. It's reliant on your own creativity.

The thing is, a 'prestige' class in itself is being 'bigger, stronger, tougher or deadlier.'

The reason we don't have any non-combat prestige classes (I assume) is because...well...being those things doesn't necessarily makes your character 'more advanced' that other players.

Your class has to make you more specialized in combat, otherwise it's just a status. An example would be two characters in the Bloodsworn Honorguard, Kathorg and Drumgar. Kathorg, is the leader of the Honorguarrd, and is a Warlord of the Horde armies. That's a status symbol. You don't go through prestige training to acquire a status symbol. Your status in COTH's society are determined by your in game actions and character background. Meanwhile, Drumgar, one of his soldiers, has the Gladiator prestige class. This prestige class has little impact on his standing in society. It just makes him a better fighter than most people.

Whether your character is renowned as a 'Casanova' or a 'Tycoon' depends entirely on in-game actions, or your characters background. There's no way to really train to be a 'Casanova' (Which would be silly if you could) or a 'Tycoon' (Which would be boring if you could).

Also, the fact that these characters can dictate how an opposing player would respond to them...isn't exactly good.

'You want to fight me? Okay, I'm going to bribe you and we won't fight!' 'But...I'm a Troll who doesn't use money...at all' 'TOO BAD! PRESTIGE CLASS!'.

Or...

'Hey there baby, my character's a Casanova, so you're in love with me.' 'But...my character's married. And has children!' 'TOO BAD! PRESTIGE CLASS!'

Or...

'Alright, so we're fighting eachother. Since I'm a Casanova, I'm going to playfully wink at you to distract you. That means I get a reroll!' 'But...my character is a Tauren...and yours is a Gnome...why would that distract me? If anything, it would make me want to kill you more...' 'TOO BAD! PRESTIGE CLASS!'

I don't mean to say you 'can't' do this. But...prestige classes only revolve around combat for a reason.

Oh? Well then, by all means, just start a topic and start roleplaying your character acquiring money, or seducing some character. You don't need a prestige class to do that, if you're doing it for the fun.

Edit: Oh, and while I'm on the subject. Technically...any race could be a 'Casanova' or a 'Tycoon'. Not only the 'pretty' ones. I mean, a Tauren could be a sly seductive dog (To his race). And a Tauren might be wealthier than many other people. It depends on the character and his background.

Yeah, I just put those races specifically cause i thought they would be the only ones likely to pursue those things. *nod*

Alright, ill go with doing that. I personally hated the idea of playing out a "Casanova" character but I thought it might appeal to someone, but I do love the idea of being a tycoon, I already have Raya signing gladiators in the arena, and trying to swindle, sell and coerce her way into fortune but, guess I can do that without any real end goal to strive for.

Sorry to have been a bother all. Off to go earn my fortune!

Male forsaken:"Hey baby, if i told you you had a great body would you hold it against me...and let me eat it?"

Female forsaken: "Is that a chunk of rotting flesh, or are you just happy to see me?"

Seems to work.

As long as your hovercraft is not full of eels so to speak I would be fine with that.

Right then, I have a new idea then :D

The prestige is for combat centric classes, right? Well, How about if a character goes above and beyond in another field, such as a character being heavilly advanced in buisness, a tradeskill, anything, they can earn a custom title, that show's what that character is, basically, what the average joe NPC might whisper to a friend once they notice them. Could work in the same way as prestiges, but without the actual in-game benefits, just a hint that the character is skilled in what they do ^^

As I said, this was discussed in another thread and dismissed as redundant. *shrug* I suppose it's just unnecessary. Besides, we have FlagRSP. Easy enough to add a title there, no?
