The Academy of Aula Arcanum
#1
Hello all!

A formal post for the guild will be made soon. Though, until then, I would like to simply say that all former Academy members may contact myself (Barlton) in-game to acquire an invite to the newly returned guild. All players who posted on the forum post prior to the server restart may do so as well.

These invites are strictly OOC, so players will need to contact Headmaster Edgar Barlton ICly in-game to be enrolled in the Academy as well.

That's all for now!

Cheerio.

+---Our Hallowed Halls ---+

The free exchange of ideas is the hallmark of any good institution of higher learning. To pass along experiences, lessons, to allow for the transfer of the mantle of genius to a new generation. It is the duty of the venerable sages and agile minds of the age to employ the grimoires and facilities of knowledge for the benefit of those who hunger for greater thought.

But the pursuit of knowledge does not need to be completely dull. Lessons can be learned both in the process of tedious lectures and during the ‘cut and thrust' of ‘rigorous mental exercise'.

The Academy of Aula Arcanum was started as neutral wizard's academy, designed as a place where users of any form of magic are allowed to mingle. It has become a haven of education, where teachers instruct pupils and researchers push back boundaries of thought, physics and –increasingly- rationality. It is where priests can exchange notes with wizards, where warlocks can –if subtly- practice their art and alchemists can do their part to poison the water supply.

+---Academics ---+

A school requires a certain modicum of order. As such the Academy is divided, along the lines of a university, into different minor schools. Each school addresses certain aspects of magic on Azeroth. The divisions are simply used for teachers; any class is allowed to take classes when provided.

Institute of Magi Study
The Institute is, by far, the largest at the school. It encompasses the three ‘trees' of mages and all the aspects that they encompass. Those who work in the Institute study Arcane, Frost and Fire. They study Abjuration, Transmutation, Divination,Conjuration, Runes and the dozens of other aspects that the manipulation of arcane energy allows.
Recommended Classes: Mages & Warlocks

Division of Faith and Faith-related Exploration
The study of Faith-based magic is a complex one. The Holy Light and the spells associated with it are discovered and pushed forward in this area of the school. The Shadow, while sometimes mentioned and dissected, is never practiced by the holy teachers and their revenant pupils.
Recommended Classes: Priests & Paladins

Center for Natural Magicks
Nature, spirits, elementals…They are all areas of interest for the researchers and teachers at the Center for Natural Magicks. Firm believers in the power of natural magicks, the worshipful here explore forms, elementals and other natural forms of power.
Recommended Classes : Shamans & Druids

School of Alchemy
The School of Alchemy is an umbrella institute. It encompasses the mixing of potions, herbology and transformation magic. It is a study that allows for often destructive and poisonous creativity.
Recommended Classes : All Classes

Department of Un-disclosed Research
The Department doesn't exist. It isn't located in a secret site away from the tower. It doesn't study Warlocky and Shadow Magick. It doesn't practice inhumane research upon those who are foolish enough to pass into its clutches. It doesn't exist. Get it?
Recommended Classes : Warlocks, Priests & Death Knights

Lessons are not always learned through lectures and books. Sometimes magical knowledge must be won through rigorous physical exertion. As such, the Academy of Aula Arcanum will always have options for Research Expeditions.

A loosely defined term, Research Expeditions are staged guild events that take guild members all across Azeroth and beyond in pursuit of knowledge, artifacts or other ‘agendas'. Reliant upon roll combat much of the time, these events will be announced well before their date with explanations and background. Events will often chain together, forming story lines that all members are allowed and encouraged to participate in. After all, with magic in the mix things are allowed to get creatively chaotic.

+---Admission---+

Admission to the ‘prestigious' Academy of Aula Arcanum is only accomplished through the prestigious act of existing and being willing. Whether you are a magic user or not there will always be positions available within the Academy.

To join, simply speak with a higher ranking member of the Academy. Concillium, Magister and Magi are all capable of taking in newer students. You will be interviewed briefly before being allowed entrance into the Academy at your appropriate level.

Concillium
The Headmaster of the Academy. This Mage's word is law in the Academy, and he has the power and the right to expel naughty boys and girls from his ranks!

Magister
The veterans of the Academy. These exalted professors have earned their way into the Headmaster's personal council. They aid the Headmaster in making decisions they think is right for the school and it's occupants.

Magi
The Magi are the professors of the Academy. These men and women teach the student body what they need to know, when they need to know it (or whenever they are stupid enough to ask). It is they who spread the knowledge to the next generation of magic users. They ascend to higher levels through dedication, cunning and a willingness to attend boring meetings.

Student
The students are, simply put, the receptacles within which knowledge is deposited. They attend classes and act as sponges; soaking up all the information they can to allow themselves to ascend to further levels. They graduate to higher status when they have proven themselves dedicated in their field of study and foolish enough to learn enough to become proficient.

Workman
This group of individuals represent the researchers and field workers of the Academy. They are the ones who are sent out to hunt for certain magical items in far away lands, and it is they who research new and exciting ways of performing magic. Not always magic users themselves, they have proven their worth by dint of being eager enough to do the Academy's work.

+---Questions ---+

Q: Can non-magic users join?
A: Non-magic users are more then welcome to join. They can serve in any capacity, whether it be as janitor,s guards, cooks, technicians, guinnea pigs...Anyone is welcome, so long as they accept that they will be put into their appropriate rank.

Q: Can I join as a warlock/Shadow priest?
A: You can. But be subtle! A warlock who runs around the tower casting Fel will be hanged, as per Kirin Tor law. Be subtle, be crafty. If the right people know about your skills and 'interests' then you will be transferred to the appropriate Division. Just make sure to keep the general population dim or you will be killed.

Q: Are there race restrictions?
A: No. This is a neutral guild.

Q: Where is the Academy?
A: The Academy is in the Magi Tower in Azshara. You can find it behind the GM house as one of the portals.

Q: Do we always have to be in the tower?
A: No. Mages are allowed to teleport around to where the Role-play is. So long as you return when there are events and you always wear the Aula Arcanum pride then you will be fine.

Update! The Shamanism teaching position has been filled! This means, all teaching positions have been taken. All we're looking for now are a few more Arcane students and some Druidism and Shamanism students to get classes started!
