Was the choice of the cost for a lvl 50 token arbitrarily chosen, or does the number have a reason behind it? (I like muhaha's idea =p )

From the perspective of an individual that recently started fresh upon returning, I didn't find it too difficult to either level or acquire the gold for bronze tokens.

As someone with a very similar perspective, I disagree. Leveling and getting gold is simply too hard boring, I demand we make it a fun and engaging activity! I mean, I still haven't been able to gather the will to even try it on either of my characters.

In my opinion, getting to level 20 is really rather easily done. Getting to level 50 is fun and all, but I find myself quickly becoming broke after getting quest money rewards because of spending on professions, mounts and other things. (sure, I don't have to get professions and things, but why not take advantage of it?) I have yet to have over 15 gold in my pocket at any time, for example. So getting that 50 token seems like a daunting task to me with only one character-- I'm more likely to hit 50 just to get that 300 gold, y'know? Sure, when you have your character hit 80 and you make other characters, the token can be easily acquired. But in the meanwhile, it seems a little difficult to hit if you only have the one character to start with. I think lowering the money requirement for the token would be nice... maybe have a system so that your first one costs x gold and subsequent tokens cost y? I don't know if that's possible or not, of course.

The leveling isn't too difficult, except there are bugged quests and sometimes you need help, but who do you ask? That makes getting the gold harder too, working only via quests; the AH doesn't work as it would on retail, you don't get much cash from that. Additionally, you don't get much money from lower level quests, and hitting your first gold is actually a bit of a milestone. Asking for 300g by the time you're, I don't know, level 20, or 40 even, is a lot. Unless you ask for the gold, it can be hard to get that much cash quickly... and as Nostra has pointed out, doing that via quests is not the funnest thing in the world.

Perhaps I just suck at getting cash though. Twilight always seems to have a random 600g floating around at level 60, where I'm wondering where I'm going to get the cash for my flying mount. XD

Armor proficiency? Are you talking about Warriors learning plate at level 40 hunters mail and so on?

Because they already took away the level requirement for that, along with dual-wielding.

Heh. See, the reason I was able to make money on the other servers I've played on is due to picking up gathering professions and then selling my findings on the AH. Players pay a lot for rarer things, y'know? But here there's no one to sell things to so my traditional income sources are gone.

Profiles are pretty pointless then without the tokens to worry about. Heh.

Perhaps rather than making a cheaper token... maybe there could be an alternative way to buy the tokens like, maybe with IC gold?

That way even new players can earn a token just by doing an Argent event or something.

Make them worth like, 1 IC gold?

There isn't much other use for IC gold, but... then again the price might need some adjusting.

If it were 1g per token then I would be set for life right now.

Perhaps 3g? That's what two Argent missions are worth right?

Gives people a whole new reason to try and become part of events too. And for those that just plain don't like events, there are other ways to earn IC gold as well.

Personally I don't really enjoy the idea of making it any easier than it is at current. At least in this way there is some use for a profile-- as was mentioned earlier I find it rather unfortunate that approved profiles have lost their value by so much, and I would prefer to retain what benefits they do allow.

Well people have to wait a month before they can even get the rewards of that first profile, and I personally don't buy tokens with the money anyways. Not saying others don't, I just don't.

I'm just saying it would be nice to have a separate way for people to earn the tokens. Not necessarily make it easier, just alternative.

And besides IC gold is a reward for approved characters too... so it wouldn't take away that reason for making a profile. There just isn't much other use for the money right now.

I do support this idea because I'm a cheap bastard who likes to gear all my characters instead of buying tokens, and... I made a druid. Perhaps just a cheap 50~150g token which levelled your character to 25 instead, hmm?

... You can only get cat form at level 20, which is a pain in the arse for the sort of people like me, who sucks at levelling.

Aye, of which I would call the .addrp item command the chief offender as to why. There isn't much that can be done about that, since that's really the best way to use currency is in trade of weapons or such; while the idea of pay-to-enter events has been tossed about before I personally dislike the idea of holding someone from an event just due to IC cash.

The cost is as easily obtainable as leveling up on your own to those levels would be, and gives new purpose for IC gold, and yet doesn't take away the importance of making profiles to get the higher tokens.
