Cheaper Token
#61
There wouldn't be a point for the token at all, then. Everybody would make a profile, and the work for the Forum Helpers and, especially, the GMs would be insane.

Being a peon isn't hard here! Maybe like, four years ago it was, but now everything is on a platter. The hardest time people realistically have here now is knowing -where- all the free stuff is, and having someone help them look for it.

There really isn't a point to the tokens at the moment, apart from a money sink. The community is helpful most of the time and offers free ones, and those who choose to grind for their own get them anyway. All the tokens do is punish people for making new chars without profiles, or tokens, by limiting their options for places to RP drastically.

I honestly don't see the problem with this. Profiles aren't really a chore for the GM's to handle, it's what us purple guys are for! And I can honestly knock out a fair amount if I sat down for a hour and went at it. :P

Tokens are for grunts who can afford them to make durable characters for perhaps a storyline NPC-type, not quite important enough to have a profile. If peons could make a profile and get bumped up to level 50, I think that'd be a lot more fair and it'll help them out since they do not have access to gold early on. We shouldn't limit their area of role-playing because of low level and hostile mobs!

I meant work for GMs for bumping characters to 80.

After reading through this thread, I thought about a way to coincide the interests of those who wants a Bronze Token with my own interests and the optimistic hope to expound upon and get more RP going! Thus, the creation of this thread .

I personally view someone who gets level 50 as someone who actually intends to invest in the character, just in a lesser extent than that of a level 80, or has yet gotten his or her character profile reviewed/approved.

I suggested this a while ago and it seemed like a good idea, but I think the one I asked forgot about it, heh.

I think the tokens are just fine at this price to be honest. Most people hand out the gold for it. Sure, if you get one 80 you don't really need to make any more profiles, but it's still going to encourage most people to make another profile in order to get 6 more tokens worth of gold rather than farm dailies.

I honestly don't want to read all 5 pages of this thread, so forgive me, but:
Why not make the Level 50 token cheaper?
Or even add a Grunt only token that bumps you to anywhere from 60-80 based on the player's choice.

But it ruins the point of making a profile.

I get it, guys, we all want things easier. But I hear you guys saying, "Oh man, I hate grinding gold," or, "I hate trying to RP as a low level out of the cities."

News Flash!

I have a grunt account and if I want a token, I grind out the gold. If I don't, I RP with higher levels and they help ensure I don't die. It isn't that big of an inconvenience...And this is coming from someone who can instant level herself to whatever she wants.

As a sidenote: I see people throwing tokens around like crazy in the first place, so most of you don't even have to -buy- one.

* muhaha8 grunts and grumbles about how when he first joined CotH, you either wrote a profile or suffered the wrath of the mobs eveywhere you went, because Bronze Tokens didn't exist.

* muhaha8 also grunts and grumbles about people being spoon-fed so much as-is that the amounts of "Hey, can we get this for free, too?" are starting to get on his nerves.

* muhaha8 points to what everyone else has said: "Be glad you're this lucky; being a peon in my day sucked."

Which I think is perfect. I write my character pfoiles shortly after, or even before rolling characters, and refine them in the initial RPs before putting them up. I admit, I enjoy level 50 -- but it's best this way than giving all free stuff.

I'm gonna take a stand here that'll probably make me very unpopular with those who support the cheaper token, 'cause...

. . . Honestly, I'd ask; how about removing the Bronze Token altogether and replace them with the offer of leveling approved characters (for Peons) to 50? It'd encourage the Peons to write profiles, and it'd encourage those who've already got 80s to keep writing them. Now, I won't say I particularily enjoy writing profiles, but I enjoy receiving approvals, because then I know that my characters have been checked, and are thus appropriate for roleplay. I remember when I joined I was frequently worried about having my characters questioned, and I was relieved when the character was approved and I knew people would think "oh, hey, this guy knows what he's doing, alright. I won't get into it." This is the kind of situation I've often faced with Maleeka, my Draenei Death Knight. That's died down thesedays, but I remember I couldn't enter an RP without people asking "woah, Draenei DK? You kidding me?"

Food for thought.

Then again, I agree; Having to write a profile for a throw-away character is pretty tedious.

Further addition; After some thought, I'd say that perhaps not removing the Bronze Token would be necessary, but maybe letting Peons bump their profiles to 50. Furthermore, lowering the level of the token could be an option. Like, to 40 or something. It's a good, round level, and you're safe in most of the regions of the world, unless you intend to wander Winterspring or the Searing Gorge.

For Grunts, I find that Tokens are very easy to get at the moment - just have one of your characters get well geared and it's already VERY easy, put the buffs in line and you'll be able to go bersek. It usually takes me no more than 15 minutes to finish the dailies, which award ~200-300 gold.

However, it might be a problem for Peons. Not everyone wants to accept gold from other players and, quite frankly, they shouldn't be dependent on that. When I first joined I made a profile, but I still leveled up by myself (not a problem; I actually enjoy leveling) and, to make money, I farmed Gorillas in Stranglethorn like crazy - seems like a waste, but it was my beast source of income. With that said, I support the idea of peon profiles bumping their level to 50. Another sweet thing would be to award said "peon profiles" with some gold, as there's always some cool stuff waiting to be bought, but since that'd probably make maintenance even harder than what it'd potentially be, better leave it out. Farming Gorillas for a bit of gold isn't -that- hard. ;)

Personally, when I was a Peon, levels didn't mean diddly. I joined to figure out this fanagled "RP" was, and was plenty burned out on Blizzard's leveling scale.

Durotar was plenty safe when you can get to level twelve or so in, twenty minutes.
The true test of his choice lies forward.
