Using it as a conductor?

Basically, when you have a battlemage (for example) they're not very good at close combat and they're not very good at magic, making them average overall. This keeps them even with everyone else (in accordance to our policies).

Okay, now a question that's more on topic...why can't a mage simply don the armor when needed and pick it back up? This is something that has bothered me with -many- games like this and WoW won't be the last but...a mage now can't pick up a piece of armor and don it? Is a magical force stopping him/her? I truly believe D&D had a better system for this (I'm a big D&D player, that's why I'm using it as a base :P), spell failier chance or even no casting at all, but because of your class you can't wear a hunk of metal? Doesn't make much sence to me :P I'm sure this has been brought up before though and if it hasn't go me :3

I may be reading your question wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's been discussed throughout this thread. If not, I'll try to reread it and this thread to see if I can answer it -- perhaps you can reread this thread as well? If it wasn't answered, let me know.

Plate and mail armor is very heavy and it can also hinder a mage's ability to cast. This is why they do not do it and it should be kept as such. A little bit here and there shouldn't hinder them too much but keep it minimal at most.

What I'm saying is "What can stop a mage from wearing plate?" "I think a better system would be to add penalties"
This thread is about -reinforcing- clothe, I'm simply asking why only cloth? There should always be draw backs but I find it -kinda- limiting :P

Edit- I got ninja'd... but why can't a mage pick it up wear it out in public and then take it off before battle?

Your mage cannot wear plate armor, a little bit of reinforcing is all we will allow.

What stops a caster from wearing plate is that they're not trained for it. Paladins, warriors, etc -- they're trained to wear that sort of gear and wield that type of weaponry. Casters can't just "don" it whenever they feel like it.

Why would you want to do this? As a casual practice, it's completely ineffective and unnecessary to wear heavy armor they're not going to use. It'd be a detriment in time lost before a battle (and, assuming, there's "spontaneous battle") there's also the assumption that armor is easy and speedy to remove.

Can't they learn it? I'm sorry for pressing, but a war mage was a character idea I was entertaining :p

War Mages aren't permissible, and as it's been firmly stated that casters cannot wear plate: No. :)

Edit: Please keep in mind that battlemages are not synonymous with war mages. :)

Okay, I'll put the beat dog to rest :P I've always been the DM that tries never to say no, but I see that as a server based on WoW that would be hard to keep fair :P I guess I'm done then...

War mages wear cloth armor. This is WARCRAFT, there are plenty of examples of battle-ready casters. They don't need reinforced armor, or anything fancier than cloth (Except maybe visibly-reinforced cloth armors), and neither should you. The idea of a mage not wearing cloth should be as ludicrous as a footman not wearing full plate.

I'll just leave this here.

Don't know why we're still ruffling feathers on this side (took other people to point out this one was won) since we're allowed reinforcement within moderation.

That has made me a very happy Sachiko.

Just because an NPC can have the class doesn't mean it's player accessible. An example is an arch-mage or an arch-druid, if I recall.

Edit: This is presuming that the link there was in support of use of the war-mage class.
