I'm confused now. No-one can get Gruntship from now, until its totally revamped? Because there's a hell of a lot of people in the 'Pending Gruntship' forum, awaiting vouches, but vouches aren't there anymore.
Sorry if its been noted. :3

Hopefully this means peons will now get a level of respect instead of being treated like bull crap. Good news. Good news indeed.

Very glad to see this kind of step, and it's a huge step. After all the conflict, fear and drama, something, anything like this was LONG overdue. Bravo for making that move.

Also, for everyone cheering about how it was terrible that peons had incentive to RP with grunts, consider this. While some peons come to CotH as seasoned RPers already, most are new or, at the very least, need a bit of improvement. There is nothing wrong with this - we were all new once and as long as people are willing and able to learn, it's perfectly healthy and normal for our community. However, those people who do need to learn and improve their RP are better off RPing with seasoned veterans more often than not. Grunts are supposed to set an example and help the new players learn the ropes. Grunt status did have some meaning. Some of you still remember that, I'm sure.

This would make sense if Grunt equaled "Seasoned Veteran." But it doesn't. Putting Grunts on some sort of role model pedestal, when there are many who could not live up to those expectations, can cause more harm than good.
I'll also point out that the vouch system was never intended to discourage RP between Peons. That was just an unintended (and, frankly, unwanted in my mind) side-effect.

RP between peons is good and should never have been discouraged, but RP between peons and grunts should always be encouraged. As for there being too many "bad" grunts, yes, this is a problem that needs to be addressed. I just disagree with pretty much everybody here in that getting rid of the vouch system will help any. I hope I'm wrong and you're all right.

I will certainly leave any macro commentary regarding COTH's vetting policies to those more familiar with their long term effects, but I must note that the vouching system's OOC-centric nature has always puzzled me. While this is perhaps coloured by my own personal experiences, I can not truly say what sort of situation would warrant OOC contact to any degree which would compel another player to vouch you. All of my RP experiences on the server, even sessions lasting close to an hour, do not involve more OOC chat than is necessary for basic coordination and game mechanics reconciliation. Would not a player's demonstrated dedication to RP be more important in judging them ready to receive full access to server content? :?:

Well, I have noticed on several characters that I have made, a new idea, or just to get out of the same old same old, you are treated differently in the RP community if you aren't a grunt, several times have I been in an RP, and I asked someone who they were on the forums and they said, "No, because you're going to ride my ass for a vouch." Also, as it has been said before, the vouching systems goes from an excellant roleplayer vouching a great roleplayer, a great roleplayer vouching a good roleplayer, a good roleplayer vouching an O.K. Roleplayer, and so on and so forth. Have a server time limit will atleast show us that you have spent the time needed RP'ing around seasoned veterans that you need to, in the GM's opinions, properly hone your skills at Roleplaying to properly represent Grunt status, and eliminates the OOC and IC drama that goes on because of vouches. I have also noticed the thing where peons will flat out say they aren't looking to RP with other peons, because they are looking for grunts that can vouch them, so this instance will hopefully be one easily cleared up by this VERY needed change as well.
Looking very, very forward to the changes, good luck.

But it's not like Peons will stop RPing with Grunts, right? It's just that the reason for Peons to avoid RP with Peons will be taken away. At least I think so.
Also, sorry for repeating myself, but I think that vouches should still remain, next to the new Grunt system. Without the "power" they had, just a wonderful way to tell people what do you think about their RP.

Without trying to sound nasty to anyone in particular, I don't think anybody can really stop you from giving a nice compliment onto an introduction of someone who RPs well. At least, I don't see any reason why not. If the "Theoretic vouch" is just that, theoretic, why not? I still remember the peonvouch you gave me, Dilnikas. Which is what these new vouches would be like when the new system is set in stone.
Bleh, my bored five gold. Please don't take anything I say too heavily, my mind is wandering.
Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.
Think how it wakes the seeds,—
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
Full-nerved—still warm—too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

I have to agree with Maulbane here, as I was planning to say something similar, but I see he got it out before me. I see no reason one cannot 'vouch', or rather instead of calling it that, just 'compliment' someone on their RP ability. We all have our friends and such. You see someone RP and you're like "Wow, that person's really good." Go for it and post something on their intro and tell your friends! What's stopping you from saying that you enjoyed your experience with that person? It's not like it's wasting a post, as people post welcomes on intros all the time.
In my own opinion, I'm glad it's going to be over with. I'd rather see the time thing over vouches, because I've seen multiple times where people get lucky, get their vouches fast, etc. and then..don't even stay. Or peons who just think that they -need- vouches and leave after a shortwhile. I see no real reason for it anymore.
And that's my two SILVER pieces. I put more money into this post, making it better. ..
