I'm not sure where you've been questing, but in every quest region that I've been doing, the Alliance is encroaching, like, -everywhere- in Kalimdor. Being as I'm (of course) a die-hard Horde (orc) fan, you can bet I'm rather irritated at the sudden swarm of Alliance in the Northern Barrens, Stonetalon, Southern Barrens (that was a big one, especially with Taurajo, which is -not- rebuilt from the quests - we just put the souls of some of the slain to ease), etc. It seems there's a Horde and Alliance presence in almost every zone, now, warring over this or that. However, that was the point... the devs want the game to feel more 'warring' now, and for players to be all "RAWR!" with the opposing faction.

If anything, though, I find it intriguing how there seems to be enlightening details left out of a few quests, just to encourage a more negative perception of the other faction, when some bloodshed could possibly be avoided if they only knew what the real situation was. (Taurajo is actually one of these instances, I believe)

But either way, I think it's pretty evened out, as people have stated above. Alliance has gotten a pretty big amount of lands, and the Horde has to make it up for it somehow.

As a lover of the horde I will be honest, I think blizzard does favor the horde. But simply put the horde is in a situation where they cannot lose. Not because they are simply better than the alliance but because if they lose where will they go? This is a faction fighting for the right to exists so they are going to fight harder and smarter than the alliance because they have so much more to lose. If the alliance was pushed into a corner like they were in the first two wars their performance would improve because they are simply desperate.

As a starter of the thread - I say it again - I also love Horde as much as I love the Alliance. This is why I don't prefer PVP realms actually. But I love things to be balanced. The Alliance lore is depressing.

I hope this is not a Horde-only server :) (kidding)

Looking at it from a military perspective... as well as economic and political stand point, the Alliance is still completely even with the Horde...

Horde Gains:

A powerful Warchief who is leading military strikes finally!
Major land grabs throughout the world.
Technology on par with the Alliance.
And likely high morale (at least in the beginning stages)

Horde Losses:

Major, major, major damage done to the political stability.
Over-stretched armies/likely slowly crippling economy.
Suffering major counter-offense by the Alliance.
Elemental WAR!
Deathwinglol AKA Sillywing

Alliance Gains:

Reclamation of a strong King.
Reclamation of many lands throughout Alliance holdings, primarily the humans(largest and main race of the Alliance)
Booming economy.
INCREDIBLY powerful Dwarven Race via the Council of the Three Hammers... I mean come on they have almost all of the original Three Dwarf Clans back together... well part of the Dark Iron, but Wildhammer and Bronzebeard/Large part of Dark Iron!

Alliance Losses:

Political stability hanging by a thread with the entire Ironforge fiasco via Moria etc.
Talk of rebellion in a few settlements ie. Westfall.
Major Horde offensive.
Elemental WAR!

As pointed out above, both Alliance and Horde have their fine points in Cataclysm. We're only seeing the beginning of Cataclysm and can't say for sure what sort of story changes will occur, much like the Wrathgate situation in WotLK! Hang in there, I'm sure there will be great things for both factions on the horizon!

Do I need to get the blue post? I need to get the blue post.

Quote:"In a fantastic universe with so much history and lore, are we really going to try and compare every little detail at a 1:1 ratio to make sure both factions feel like they're mirrored? It's sort of silly to even try considering we don't want the factions to feel the same in that way, always gaining and losing in the war at perfectly equivalent rates, and at the same time. But... I'll throw in my own random evidence just to give this a go.

We've released a blog post about patch 4.0.3a hotfixes: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/1232869

We could have used an image of a goblin engineer, but I asked for an image of a gnome engineer. Gnomes are my favorite (read: favoritism). Your move, community managers who favor Horde.

I would argue what these fine points are... I for example think that the worgens are cool. I rolled a worgen on my alpha and the shapeshifting is great! Indeed, it's probably the best race ever done by Blizzard.

But this would mean that Alliance will be full of noobs who think worgens rock.

Same thing happened with TBC - people started to play the Blood Elves and up to this moment they are waaaay overused.

Then that reflects more on the players than the game makers.

Ah, well...I was meaning the gains brought up by Amerason but there are others.

On another note, much like the Blood Elves and Death Knights, roleplayers who play their characters properly and with quality certainly set themselves apart from the masses that flock to the race simply because they look cool. I was worried about this with the Goblins as well, but I realize that the brand-new feeling to the races will eventually fade and what you have left will be the people who continued to play the character for what it is and the mass who still cling to it because of the initial flood from just their looks. I guess what I'm trying to say from this string of ranting is that you'll always have situations like this and the best way to deal with it is to grit your teeth, jump into the tide, and try your best to show that you're different from the mass of players that chose the race/class/what-have-you for shallow reasons.

Edit: Repeated a few words.
