Regarding the Cannibalism issue, (Information/Discussion)
#31
Just forget I said a thing, alright? There's a whole lot more I'd like to say but I do not want to waste the time if I'm most likely going to be attacked over it. And anyways, if she was -born- with it, she would have played on this little trait of her's long before a bunch of humans and orcs piled into their homeland. She'd be an outcast, most likely. I think I've stated this once before so I'll just shut my E-Mouth.

Good day.

"If she smiles wide enough so that all her teeth are visible, crusted blood can often be seen detailing her gumline on the teeth or in the center. "

By this bit of information, we can say she eats fairly often. I don't think she has gingivitis, but if she does, I give my dearest sympathy. Blood on the gums/teeth would be rather alarming, -especially- to her Night Elven counterparts. And you can't tell my she doesn't smile wide. She'd have to be braindead or all-out evil not to smile.

Second of all, after 324 years, no one has has figured out her disturbing problem? You'd have to be joking. Plus she lives in a bunkhouse in Darnassus! I believe a bunkhouse has plenty of visitors, coming in intervals. Plus, this plays on my reasoning of her teeth. I doubt she runs around with a hand covering her mouth at all times.

When you see someone with blood on their teeth, your first guess is not: LOLOL DEY AYT SUM1. Nor is she walking around smiling wide all the time. Smile at yourself in the mirror- how much of your teeth are visible? Unless you're grinning madly, then only the tips. Next, the bunkhouse is a private one. I called it a bunkhouse because it has enough room for all the people in the guild to sleep in.

And time is not directly related to detection, that's basic logic.

... I have no idea why I seem to have this utterly persistent knack lately for coming to a topic when it's almost dead. I know I've been busy, but geez!

Anyway -- As I've had the chance to play a few times with a very dedicated cannibalistic racist (possibly sexist) character who's in the large ranks of The Crazies of CotH, I figured I'd better give my view. If you will find that boring, please skip... ;)

  • My character Nenet is a cannibal, in part because she thinks it makes her stronger.

I consider cannibalism eating anything that has language to say "I'd really rather you go eat a nice burger, or something. In fact, I know this lovely little place down Tanaris-way, and I'll buy the first round." She specifically chooses 'food' she thinks is more powerful, etc., with the idea that she is consuming their strength.

  • Nenet is kinda feral, and quite batty.

She was around when Azshara was, and doesn't care what people say Azshara did or has happened to her. She loves her queen as her own personal goddess, no matter what. Everyone and everything can go to the Twisting Nether for all she cares, unless they also love her queen. (I think she went into the Emerald Dream and the nightmare may have twisted her a bit even more than the confusion and anguish of the old war -- I haven't fully tied it all down hence not writing up a profile yet.)

  • Nenet is still cagey enough to keep her food and political/religious preferences to herself.

There's a very good reason the Sentinels, the shopkeepers, and even Tyrande haven't had Nenet hung up for target practice for her actions and beliefs. She hasn't let them find out.

  • Nenet is jealous of blood elves for being descended from Azshara's beloved High Elves, but also loves them because Azshara did.

I've seen some pretty twisted ideas/actions come from real life conflicts like this, though, so chances are pretty good that eventually, THIS point will cause her to break along an interesting fracture-point. Remains to be seen.

So, in context, with Nenet as an example, I think:
  • A sufficiently deranged member of any race can be cannibalistic.
It will generally always get them into (terminal) trouble if found out.
Night Elves and Blood Elves can come to get along provided they have individual reasons for overcoming the EXTREME cultural differences.

As for "why would someone be racist and a little sexist AND be a cannibal?" We've already had a very clear example in this thread from real life history. Damage takes many forms, unfortunately. I find it realistic, but not always preferable to play with. I don't think I've ever seen Bolshe NOT take "I don't want to play with this" for an answer. I can assure you I will never try to force a concept on anyone in RP, nor deride anyone for telling me "No, thanks"!

Total Aside - On the race relations bit, I actually think the lore of this server provides a very interesting and compelling reasons for some people to go, "Maybe we'd better set some differences aside for a while" or even "Holy heck, maybe these people aren't so bad", what with most of the living Azerothians being wiped out and the rest being almost taken over by the Legion, the Scourge, and the Cthulhu Insect Horde. But that'd have to be borne out on an individual basis.

Eh... Bolshe, you make her smile wide enough quite often and aren't too iffy about showing off those blood-CRUSTED teeth. I'm sure Night-Elves wash their teeth also, no matter how crudely they may do it. They most likely cook their food also, though no doubt some like it rare or even raw.

The point is, you aren't hiding the fact to us, the players, in character. Only to NPCs who couldn't tell otherwise because GMs can't be puppeteer all the time.

Though, I'm pretty sure the Bouncers would have had enough of Elaszun stirring up trouble, given how much of a trouble-maker she is.

I don't know about you- but when I go to a restaurant, I order my meat bloody.

There are many explanations besides LOL U AYT SUM1 BISH that her teeth are bloody, to name a few:
1. Cut in mouth
2. Gum disease (which wouldn't be too hard to believe since it's not like they are all bloody dentists)
3. Having eaten non-sentient meat, raw or not.

Then there are many more far-fetched ones that I could think of- but those are the 3 most common. You don't automatically assume:

"O HEAY. DEY HAV BLUD ON TEEF. DEY AYT."

For someone who's only seen me RP once or twice, you speak quite assured of how she acts in-character. In any case, I don't appreciate the accusing that I dance around the fact that NPCs are mindless and that I don't hide my character's diet around other characters- which is absolutely untrue.

It's so untrue, in fact, that only a select few of the Children of Azshara even know what she eats.

Personally I must agree with Grakor, a character being a cannibal (no-matter the race) I am fine with, a character that bands together with his/her "racial enemy" I am fine with, a sexist character, I am fine with. All of these could add to make a fantastic character.

What bothers me is that these traits (that I personally would consider rare, especially in a night elf. Keyword; personally) are all placed in one character, and that there apparantly are several characters of similar, if not identical, design. The concept wouldn´t bother me much, if at all, if it was a rare concept, but at the moment it seems like the majority of the elf population is jumping on the bandwagon. I am of course not blaming Bolshe or Lucheiah for this, I am not trying to put the blame on anyone just point out where I think the problem might be.

What I am trying to say is that I don´t think the character alone is the problem.

Remember that this thread isn´t about Bolshe only, but about the cannibalistic elves in general. (I think we all can agree that if a few jungle trolls were cannials it wouldn´t be a problem, but when the characters come from a race who´s stereotypes are balanced druids and aged priestess´ it becomes a little more problematic).

Now, everyone can voice their opinion if they keep polite (within reason of course, this is all according to me so if the other GMs say otherwise it is likely so). Also, remember the Respect rule.

And Bolshe, not to be pesky or anything, but cannibalism is not the only thing that will get you banned from the Tavern, being a "normal" troublemaker will too. So if your character has been inciting or been involved in a few incidents that the guards would disapprove it is likely that she would be thrown out.

Faeorial, even if night elf society etc was based/inspired on gallic culture it´s still different. For an example; I am pretty sure your character would be mobbed if she/he had heads hanging from her belt, at least if the character spends time around other elves.

I have a quick question that I hope isn't a sidetrack -- How many "bandwagon" elves are there, right now? I haven't had as much of a chance to play regularly as I'd like, so as far as I know, there's maybe about a half-dozen elves who are ready to be "Elves Uber Alles". Of those, "eating people" really only touches a couple of them.

I just realized after Nostra's post that from what I wrote it might look like Nenet's a cc kinda concept. She's not, really, but she was "inspired by". But I wasn't aware there was (or even the perception there was) an "epidemic".

LOL... :P

I guess it was good to ask first before trying the idea out publicly! XD

Sorry I've been reading too much of Caesar's Gallic Wars lately, it's going to my brain

I'll remember to avoid the Belt of Shriveled Heads, and this quest chain in the future. ;)

Of course, those are all believable, Bolshe. The second one more-so than the others. But while this roleplay we partake in has twinges of realism to it, we aren't going as far as "Guys, I don't clean my teeth because I'm too busy on the job." A cut would most likely bleed, or scab up unless you simply just let the blood flow without cleaning it. And then your teeth would be very bloody. You wouldn't let it CRUST.

It'd be fine if everybody else didn't clean their teeth. It would be far less noticeable. But currently you are roleplaying in a world where everybody is more or less keeping up with very good hygiene to look physically appealing (See: Fantasy), barring Undead, Trolls, Orcs, Dwarves, and most other 'Primitive' acting races. They aren't primitive, of course, I just can't find a more flattering term for those who don't take care of hygiene as a whole. Unclean?

My opinion still stands that the character wouldn't be any worse off not being a cannibal. I don't hate the idea of a cannibalistic elf. I just think it's an extra add-on that isn't needed. But like I said before. It's Bolshe's choice.

Things will bend only so far until they break.

But Bolshe is gone, so eh.

Can a GM please lock this thread?

Grakor456 Wrote:Is it lore-*breaking*? I can't say that, because there's nothing saying in the lore that it could not ever happen. But it's twisting the lore by the arm in an extremely painful position, causing tears to stream down its face while it wails "UNCLE, UNCLE!" at the top of its lungs in the hopes that it will stop.

I can imagine several scenarii where a Druid character would be considered cannibalistic against any sentient foe stupid enough to draw their anger enough to have the beast overcome the elf. Submersed by the feral rage and blood lust, the Druid could surely torn apart his foe and eat its heart, guts, whatever ...

I would consider this act not really lore-breaking but I think that any NE character doing that in cold blood and full understanding would be considered outright mad by the other NEs, even the most xenophobic ones.

Bolshe was banned and this topic has no purpose at the moment, as it seems this group of people has dispersed since.

Locking.
