Introducing a delinquent shrine maiden
#1
First and foremost: Tell us about yourself, as a player:
I've been roleplaying for fifteen years, both on and offline. My initial experience was with a rather rules-heavy pen and paper DnD group under second edition, although we swiftly moved on to third. I then migrated to roleplaying online, cutting my teeth on AnimeNation and progressing to Neverwinter Nights (Menzoberranzan, Myth Drannor, Acheron's Fall and Gatecrashers servers) and IRC's Belariath. Since then, I have migrated onto RPoL and attempted to join Guild Wars, City of Heroes, TOR and Neverwinter Nights 2 servers, though none of these have held my attention due to the difficulty in finding solid roleplay groups on such games.

What country do you come from? What is your primary language?:
England, and English.

How did you get into Warcraft?:
I originally played Warcraft: Orcs and Humans in the nineties, and have followed the RTS games since. I have considered WoW for a long time, but was put off by subscription fees.

How did you find us? Did anything in particular draw you to the server?: I was recommended by a friend who used to play here when I mentioned that I was looking for a roleplaying community.

What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy?:
I enjoy developing characters and stories, primarily, and exercising my neophilia. Whether casual chatter in the tavern or the high emotions of a Gamesmastered quest, I enjoy exploring worlds and people.

What is your favorite race/class? Why?:
I'm fond of Gnomes and Goblins - the inventor races - but my knowledge of WoW mechanics is too thin on the ground for me to know which classes I favour.

What are your expectations of this server?:
I hope to find a good, solid community of established characters who will welcome me and my oddities as a friend.

Out of all of our rules and regulations listed on our server, which appeals to you the most?:
All of the rules seem reasonable, but my favourite is probably the Guard Abuse rule. I've seen it everywhere, people assuming that the guards just aren't there because there's no GM around to take control of them.

Did you know that we have a Mentor Program? It's entirely voluntary and you as a new player can sign up for it right now in your introduction! Are you interested in signing up to be assigned a Mentor? If so, say so here (Please enter at least "Yes" or "No"):
A mentor could be helpful, so I'm going to say 'yes, please' - at least until I get my bearings!

Lastly, tell us a story! It can be short, it can be long; but most importantly, we want to see your work in action. Go!:
Sypha smiled to herself as she ran a finger down the spine of the book she had found. The small library in New Stormwind wasn't the hallowed halls of the Kirin Tor to which she aspired, but it was a start.
It wasn't that she was a mage, per se - she barely dabbled in the arcane arts - but simple that Sypha loved books and stories. Nobody collected books like the mages, and so it was her dream to work in their great library. The book she held now was rare, and she was worried that the elf who yet waited impatiently at the front of the library would mistreat it, but she knew after last time that refusing to allow anyone to peruse the collection was outside her remit as Librarian.
That didn't mean she had to let them into the stacks. Taking the book down, she placed her palm against the cover and whispered an apology before taking it back to the front desk.
"I believe this is the tome you seek?" She asked, offering it to the blonde elf before her.
"A Thesis on Planar Travel, by Medivh of Tirisfall." The elf's voice was melodious - but then, he was an elf. "Yes, this will do perfectly. Now," he murmured, raising a hand and drawing an arcane sigil. "Forget." He whispered, and the word flowed into the sigil he had drawn, before swirling around Sypha's vision and sinking into her mind, erasing his presence and visit from her memories. She watched the patterns whirling for a moment, before coming to with a start. Had she fallen asleep at the desk? What a strange dream.

Is there anything else you would like to add, ask, or otherwise clarify?: I'm a complete WoW newbie, so the gameplay/technical side of things will take me a while to get the hang of. I can only ask for patience in this matter.

Hello, FuryouMiko, and welcome to COTH!

If you haven’t already, please do make sure to double-check the rules and policies so you’re for sure familiar to the server’s expectations! If you have further questions, I recommend giving this guide a read, as it contains a lot of helpful information for players who are new to the server. Also, if you haven’t already, make sure to register your in-game account in the Account Management page using the same information you registered your forum name under. As for downloading the correct client and other things that you need to do in order to connect, I recommend giving this a read, as I found it very helpful myself when we made the switch to Cataclysm.

As for making your first character, there are a lot of helpful articles and guides for you to read up on in case you don’t fully understand the lore. The wiki also contains helpful tips for making a character and for when you’re writing your first profile, such as scale and height.

When you get your account created, make sure to /join Chat and /join Barrens in-game for if you have any questions not answered in the forums. Feel free to send me a message if you need any assistance, and I’ll give if a reply as soon as I can! And if not me, any Overseer, GM, or Forum Helper.

Huh, a neophile is a lover of novelties - I learned a new word today. I'm going to expect something unique and interesting coming out of you if you regard tavern and quest RP with a love for novelty, and with Goblins and Gnomes even more so, since they're pioneers of novelty!

As for being new to WoW, the mentor program will help, since all of our mentors are familiar with the technical sides of WoW as well as the lore, and can certainly help you out in those areas, so no worries there.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy your stay!

~Geo

P.S. Who was the friend who recommended you here, if you don't mind me asking?

Ah... thanks, Geo. :)

I've got 3.3.5a - is there a patch file I can download, or should I just get the full install version?

That thread is a little confusing for me since it links this and that and... too many things. >< Maybe I'm just tired? Sorry to be such a pain.

I'll catch up on the lore over the next few days.

It was Holynexus. I think that's the right name on here, anyway.
