Character ideas that don't play by CotH character creation rules
#1
Now, please note, I'm not trying to troll or make a fuss. And to help prevent this, I do ask that with these such ideas, one should still follow the general idea that this is meant to be a quality character: one who is enjoyable for others and brings something to the table.
I do feel like character creation rules do much more good than harm here, but I've seen a lot of ideas thrown about OoCly that, though wouldn't work by conventional CotH rules, are still interesting. Many such ideas, if given the chance to develop through discussion, could make good event ideas or concepts for off-CotH custom lore RP.

So here are some of my ideas:

A Black Dragon Captured by Dwarves
I would love to have a chance to explore the madness of the Black Dragonflight, particularly when it comes to their forsaken duties as the earth-warders. Would they possess some titanic geomancy knowledge? Would they feel a begrudging kinship to the Dwarves? What would a dwarf do, given the chance to know a black dragon?

A Half-Orc Spirit Walker
Imagine a dedicated orcish shaman delving into the wisdom of their elders, only to find his sworn enemies among the dead who speak to him. (or her)
Honestly, I can see potential for both comedy and tragedy here.
Potentially, there could be a half-shamanic/half anything-else, but that might be pushing it in terms of general half-edness.

A Half-Orc Worgen Shaman
Orcish worgen make a strange amount of sense. You get the classic worgen curse business, but combined with the orcish wolf fetish. Great for exploring the idea of the Shaman Spirit Wolf form.

Forsaken Avatar/Sister of Steel/titan-powered dude
Yallve heard me talk about this plenty, but that's because the idea fascinates me. Imagine a Forsaken discovering their titanic heritage and attempting to transcend their undeath by invoking an innate, titanic-based state.

So yeah, let's hear yall's now.

I'm sure if you read up on lore you'll find things that validate or invalidate these ideas. I don't like messing with lore and creating loopholes so I can't really condone any of these ideas personally.

That's not the point. The point of this thread is to explore ideas with potential, even if they wouldn't fly on CotH or in general lore.

In response to the Half-orc part, I think a Half-anything is awesome. I don't know why but I think half-breeds are absolutely badass and I wish they were allowed on CotH.

Forlarren. The NElf-raised kind.

To the uninitiated, Forlarren are the offspring of the (generally unwilling) coupling of a Night Elf and a Demon. They're half-demon NElves, basically. Those that grow up with their Night Elven parent tend to be Good-aligned and act and are treated much like say, a Demon Hunter would be. Those that grow up with their Demon parent generally end up servants of the Legion, the closest one can get to a NElf Fel-sworn.

Half-demons would be interesting for any race, especially if they're able to combat their fel tendencies. Considering that Demon Hunters set a prescedence for someone to be fel-tainted without immediately succumbing to the evils of Fel, I think this would be a plausible idea in Warcraft lore.
Except maybe draenei/eredar crossbreeds. I dont even

Though I'm also looking at the manual of monsters again, and man, there's so many ideas.
Quote: Orafaun

Granted the power to interpret dreams by Cenarius, orafauns live in the hills of Mount Hyjal, ready to interpret the meaning of dreams for those who come to the temple and pay homage to the demigod.
This seems like a cool class variant, but as is, describes them as a separate race, and doesn't supply many details. :/

Quote: Corpse Whisperer

Some mortal followers of the Scourge were shaped into these beings. Not as powerful as death knights, a whisperer has the ability to rouse an undead host. Since they are still mortal, they do not share the limitations of the other members of the Scourge. Whisperers bide their time in the wastelands, seeking to rule on their own.
Which itself seems to be based on the DnD Corpselight Whisperer, which seems to be a sort of faith-based necromancer, which would be a cool alternative sort of necromancer, especially for a race with swamp-based ties.

Quote: Thought Drinker

Often mistaken for a demon of some kind, these gaseous creatures are the creations of the high-borne. The elves had experimented with constructs and living forces, some seeking to transform themselves into powerful spirits. These nasty parasites were an unforeseen result.
Just... man, the Highborne sure went cray for a while...

Quote:The elves have their hounds in the cooshie, the Burning Legion have death dogs, the titans have moon dogs, and the undead Scourge have ghoul wolves and shadow wolves to run down their prey.
PUPPIES :D

That all being said, these are explicitly stated from the start that MoM appendix 3 are all meant to spice up Warcraft campaigns through adaption of DnD materials, so they don't technically fit into RPG canon, in a way. Still cool ideas, especially those Titan/Nelf/Scourge/Legion doggies.

The topic you've started here is a good idea overall, and perhaps it can be used as a tool to get the mind flowing. Maybe another thing it could be used for is working together to make things that we thought wouldn't fly on CotH or Lore in general work out so we can actually integrate them into our RP. There are however two things that I need to ask/point out, to perhaps better understand this and give myself a viewpoint on it.

- Doesn't this belong in Off-Topic? I'm not exactly sure what the rules are that break General discussion from Off-Topic but I do feel as if this is one of those posts that is in the wrong section, sure we are discussing things in WoW that are related to RPing. However we are discussing things that have a very slim chance to even being related to CotH, or can even exist Lorewise. I'm sure that some of the things that will be brought up in this thread will have very little to do with WoW in general; however if I am mistaken and there's no problems with this post being here than please do forgive me.

- I'll put it as Dae did, "That's not the point. The point of this thread is to explore ideas with potential, even if they wouldn't fly on CotH or in general lore." That being said there are an unlimited number of possibilities available for us to discuss about in and out of depth, this forum could go on forever and there would still be ideas that aren't yet thought of or variations of ideas that have already come along (no matter how crazy they might seem.) So it's a decent thing to just have small talk about unless it's a really great idea, otherwise I could say 'Flying Monkeys from Peru that are gangsters who do hardcore cocaine' and it is acceptable for the idea of this topic due to how open the discussion is.

I apologize if anything is hard to understand in my text, if any clarifications are needed please do not hesitate to ask.

1. Nah. Off Topic here tends to involve A situation in which Roleplay, the community and/or WoW are not the topic of discussion. (or if there isn't really a discussion to be had) See also: threads about new WoW Expacs and the likes that hung out in general.

2. As I said in the first post, one should at least try to come up with a concept that still acts as a good character for others to RP with. I find few scenarios in which the cocaine monkies would be a well-developed RP concept, but if you can come up with it, this is the place to post it.

Right, thanks for clearing up the OOC topic but you still have me at a bit of a bridge with your response to the second half. If it doesn't follow by Lore or CotH rules then it's not really a good character for others to RP with, here at least. Also who's the one that's deciding what concept is well-developed and good/bad for other players to RP with? We both know that I just wrote down some bull crap in the back of my mind..

Dude, it doesn't really matter, if you want to get technical. If you feel like posting a bunch of BS, go right ahead. Not sure if you'll get much discussion, but you can if you want to. Especially so in a thread that's generally meant to shoot the wind on out-there ideas.

No one's policing "quality" on CotH so much as expecting people to put in some effort and be willing to accept and implement criticism for the sake of the community. (or at least to make an effort at good-natured humor)

Spoiler:
The Tauren looked down at the elf, a degree of doubt still lingering on his face.

"Are you certain this will work? You know I do not wish harm upon them, despite their baleful behavior."

The elf scoffed at the remark, though his expression reflected some understanding of the tauren's worries.

"This is but a basic-level cantrip, one young students of Dalaran might cast upon themselves during their classes, should they have slept through breakfast. The spell can cause no harm in and of itself."

The two finish enchanting a large bird that was held aloft over a fire by a long spit. Satisfied with their work, they leave the meal unguarded, ignoring their audience of some poorly-stealthed gnolls.
As the two scheming chefs left earshot, the four heyenid scoundrels made a beeline towards the smoldering poultry, gorging themselves before finding themselves lulled to slumber at their large meal. They drifted off to sleep before they could even fight over the marrow bones, not even waking as a Tauren snuffed out the fire's cinders with the contents of a waterskin.

The four gnolls stirred in the late dawn, the remnants of their meal having caught the attention of the disposal side of the circle of life. Shooing away a feasting crow, Cackel sat in the dirt, mind in a fog. He waited for his natural instincts to sweep his mind up in a bout of short-term urgency.
As he sat in a daze, it (very slowly) dawned on him that whatever he usually felt he should be doing wasn't being felt like being done. The other gnolls were likewise in various states of consciousness, the usual fervor of his troop upon waking wasn't there, he realized.
Cackel blinked, looking to Mook, Doubletooth and then Lurch. They weren't doing much, either. Eventually, Doubletooth piped up, "What now, boss?"

"I... I don't know."

Little did they know, the savagery that drove their every action had been silenced with but a single spell: a simple illusion of filled stomach.

So much of Gnolls' characterization hinges on their food fixation, so I can't help but wonder what would become of a troupe of gnolls deprived of their primary motivation. With Sayge, the heyena dude with the Blackmoon Faire being an unexplained anomaly, a non-hungry gnoll seems to be a low-powered but different concept that would admittedly be better suited to a tabletop campaign situation than WoW RP.

High Elves.

We all know it ain't happening, even with the subraces being allowed, like Mag'har, Forest Trolls, Taunka and such. The only one that was missing from the subraces list was the High Elven race.

But I'd definitely love to see some well-written, well-reasoned and well-played High Elves, just as I would the aforementioned Gnolls.
