What happened to that "Lawless City" idea?

He is referring to how it was built, saw RP, then faded into 'wait, we can rp there?'

Wouldn't it be possible to spawn a couple of benches and a barkeeper? Just to give a feeling that there actually is something there.
And I believe that a place like catacombs is for evil people. The average adventurer would never set foot in there.

If you're looking for a good guy custom place, that already exists. It's called Azshara Crater.

What they're asking for is a place with -no- guards.
Mimirion's Anchorage has guards.
Azshara's Crater has guards.
They are far from Lawless.

I might do some scouting tonight...
...if I ever finish messing with this script.

*Thinks* You could always go for the Dwarven farm, nothing is actually there and might be a good hideout. There are more places, but I don't know them out of my head at this point. Thought STV had a camp as well, two tents, a fire not far from BB.

Then again, I'm in favour of having a lawless group / mobile city that actually moves from time to time so they stay ahead of the guards and good-doers that want to bring them down.

I heard Gilneas in Cataclysm is intact as a zone but entirely empty of mobs and NPCs.

Sounds like Cataclysm may have the exact solution we're looking for. :B

The problem with making Goblin towns lore-coherent (IE - less lawful) is that it will give "I'm-awsome-boss-of-town-getting-into-everyone's-face" characters/players more means to spoil other people's RP.

The lawless concept is inovation and as such should be RPd in a new zone experimentally. Just find the place, they are out there.

As a side note, those characters could easily be out numbered and stomped.
For one, there is no real such thing as lawless.
Why? Because when you get down to it, someone or some group has to be on top.
And that person/group will inevitably try to force a set of rules, written or unwritten.
Anarchy only last until someone steps up and seizes control.

Though, there would be no NPC guards to enforce rules, it'd be player only.

I think. <.<

There are a lot of good ideas, everyone agrees. It's just the fact of getting the word out to the non-grunts out in the community. Most of the people I know don't bother to go to the custom places, since they have no one already there. I've only RP'd once in Dalaran, and in Ratchet. I'm sorry for say, but unless a new place is picked, Booty Bay will probably will remain the center of "newer player" RP. I myself would like to go out and join all the other RP-y goodness going on outside of BB, but I never get a chance to.

Back to the original topic, there are many places for a bandit camp or whatnot in the Barrens, and Raven's Hill is pretty empty. It's the fact of getting people to go. A lot of players stray from the Lore of WC to RP, and so a lot of players are incorrect on how they play their character. Now, don't jump down my throat, I understand, each character has a unique story. I myself don't RP as a race or class might be well thought. I understand the rules can be bent in favor of a good RP storyline/history. But a lawless city is a bad idea.

1) There aren't any rules. So the rules have to be imposed by the strongest. If there isn't any rules, hell -will- break loose, and no one will want to go there, for fear of their character's life.

2) If everyone outside is under constant CW, then someone could simply say he's trusting, and slaughter without abandon. And to try to arrest him would be that be broke a law, which didn't exist.

3) This is asking for trouble. All the rogues and thieves and assassins will go here, and what happens to the lowly, unsuspecting paladin when he walks in? He won't survive long. This sounds like an above-grounds Catacombs to me. Somewhat.

A better idea is to have a city/town/camp that has -little- rules. That way, people can still kill, or whatever without interfering with the guards. A more lenient BB, if you would.

@IsolimTso: That's why I thought there should be an inn(outdoors inn if you will) with a couple of hired bodyguards to prevent trouble, but only inside that inn. And changed my mind about the CW. If you are inside that inn, you aren't under any but if you go outside - you can get severly injured without a CW, but you will get a chance to esacpe. If you people give you a CW, you'll still have the chance to escape.

A place like Barrens would be a great spot. Theres alot of barren(duh) land, it's close to Ratchet which means there would be IC reasons. It's rather neutral, and when I say neutral I mean that all sorts of people would come there. Evil do-ers, adventurers and good do-ers. I think it would be great to have conflict RP, where people fight to domain the place. Mercenaries vs Mercenaries, Evil-doers vs Good do-ers.

That's true enough, but there already is Good-doers vs. Evil-doers. It's called WoW. Amazing! =D

But if characters can only impose upon severe injuries without a CW, isn't that a rule? I know, I read about your inn, but if a gigantic, titanic fight broke out between necromancers, warlocks, priests, paladins, and the like, and it overran into the inn, unless you had a private army of bodyguards, it would be impossible to stop all of the chaos. Again, when lawless-ness is present, there are no rules.

But it's highly doubtful that anything will be done about it, so good luck to us all!
If something does happen, it will be a heaven for Meo. :3

Is anyone still considering the abandoned Gilneas I mentioned? I mean it's an entire town that's empty of NPCs.

It's probably a good bet Cata won't come to CotH for awhile, unless I missed something.

We won't know for sure.

But I mean why customize a place that people might not use when most of our custom areas are likely to be wiped in Cata? Sounds like we can save some work by just letting the upgrade do it for us.

In the meantime there are towns cleared of NPCs if you want to use them for your own rp, you just have to get there first.
