Goblins and Worgens CONFIRMED as next two races
#46
I still say Worgen and Goblins. The rest of those masks are just the models in-game (Save for that horribly looking fake ogre woman.) making it seem like blizz tossed them together to cover it up.

On a more serious note than my last post, what will happen if Goblins -are- released and we eventually switch to the new expansion with them in it? Will they be special profiles, or is this not even being contemplated so early?

So many questions, so many.

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds,—
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
Full-nerved—still warm—too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

I think it will depend on the lore. Gobs would probably be a shoe in for rp, but Worgen... that might be DK style.

Well, the other suggestions in this thread seems to be shot down by Blizzard by the fact that why should they make another race similar to an already existing one, like the Zandalar Trolls or the High Elves. They have the same moveset, almost. Diversity is the key, really.

Personally though, Goblins and Worgen are good, but also suggest Forest Trolls and Ogres...*drools* Warcraft 2 was my fave of all time.

Riggs Ravenhook - Swarmy Old Goblin Thief and Corporate Nuisance
Gorudo Goldforge - Goldforge Clan Remnant and Ranger
Turic Carsten - Stormwind Regular

I would most definitely love to see Goblins around, but Worgen... How do you play one? It's going to have s STEEP learning curve, and explaining them as an RP character might get really difficult. I doubt even I'd attempt one until I actually knew what their motivations/likes/fears were.

Well, one thing's for sure, they certainly won't be in cities. To be honest, I just seem them as forest dwellers who don't really get into contact with people. Or hell, they might not even like being with people at all. They could be the new xenophobic race for all we know.

That's how I'd RP a Worgen anyway, dunno about anyone else. Personally I'd love to give it a shot.

One thing that crossed my mind today; why is blizzard to obsessed with races and not classes?

I understand that classess would be hard to introduce and all, but if this is true then 4 races and only 1 class introduced since 1.0.

Couldn't they put all that effort into making new classes and, if that isn't possible due to balance, quests? Quests which are actually fun to do? Killing 10 things 10 times for a cutscene which is bested by fans is an improvement, but not by much.

/two cents.

Also, new content that isn't uber-endgame epic would be appreciated. I'm sad that the old world is being sorely neglected.

I personally thing there is a possibility for worgen to come into the next [[or after the next]] expansion by following these supposed facts:

I think many people know that Blizzard had said they had something specail planned for Gilneas... I just forgot where it says that. Though it may also be good to keep this in mind
http://www.wowpedia.org/Gilneas
Wowwiki Wrote:In response to a question at Blizzcon, Metzen mentioned that they had "forgotten" about Gilneas.

Worgen have been incredibly well-seeded for playability, mainly the whole thing with the portion of the game where you can turn into a worgen. While holloween costumes such as the bat one and the like, there are almost no emotes... but the Worgen have a large deal of emotes, including the ability to ride mounts.

Plus,
Valikani Wrote:http://www.wowpedia.org/Alphus_Wordwill They covered themselves with the Worgen. :< I'm excited... And feel bad for it.
That link basically sums up one of the ways I forsee them making Worgen a playable race. WTF?!?!? Blizzard is already doing it! *faint*

Anyway, now that those facts are out and that handy article thrown in that I believe had creditably, there is the thing of Gilneas' location. It has been stated a thousand-million times, but there is a possibility that Blizzard could do something that actually does not break the lore, but like how Dragomad said how he/she felt it would be a strech... this is a strech, but I think it doesn't really break the lore.
Dragonmad Wrote:I doubt making the worgen playable would be lorebreaking, but rather it would just be a bit of a stretch.

Basically one way I can see them going about it is Gilneas getting infected with the worgen plague somehow - They don't even let regugees in as they don't want the plague/curse to be spread any further, but the damage slowly progresses beyond control. Gilneas eventually, trying to perserve itself, tries to find a way to reverse, or at least lessen the effects of the curse. [[LOL [url="http://www.wowpedia.org/Alphus_Wordwill"]Already Done[/url]]].

Grats Gilneas, the cure partially worked, you all now retain your intelligence and the curse no longer spreads. Ohshi- wait, your all permanently stuck as Worgen. Or maybe it partially works and some of them remain bloodthirdty and beyond reasoning, losing half of its workforce and eventually considering contracting the Alliance to help [[I have NO idea why Gilneas would bother with the horde]]

The only problem with this is; How would Gilneas get Varian to let a Worgen-faction into the grand Alliance? It would probably have to be a combination of many things. First; Varian seems to worry a lot about the horde. Big wolf men would certainly help, but that is definitively not enough to help. Maybe he also lets them into the alliance to let them find a cure to return to their human selves, feeling a little bit of companionship to the former humans - Note A LITTLE BIT, not overly much. You could even make a big quest of this [For the game itself I mean, not really RP, that is for others to decide] which ends in finding a cure that only works for half a hour or a little more than that.

That isn't really breaking lore, but it does stretch it, for sure.

[2]

Theres also the possibility that they made the masks just to mess with people-Knowing that people datamine WoW. It could kill three birds with one stone.
A: Mess with people and cause general widespread panic/praying ceremonies.
B: Time not put to waste as it can just be used for Halloween fun.
C: Maybe Worgen in general will play a much larger role in the next expansion pack, and the mask would make it feel like they are everywhere.
I say this because where has the Scythe of Elune gone to? I just smell a big event that deals with the emerald dream with the Scythe and the Worgen linked to it, playing a large part somehow. I've always been so fascinated with the mystery surrounding the Black Riders, the Scythe and Velinde.
Mmmmm ^-^

Or maybe its both going to be a playable race and play a big role in the Emerald Dream? Time will tell!

Oh yeah, and I partially hope the worgen become a playable race. I say partially because, well, it would take some getting used to seeing player worgen running around... but I'd like it :D Oh and the Worgen also have many classes they can be, provided they actually stay... you know, smart.

Possible classes:

Warrior
Hunter [If intelligent]
Mage [If intelligent]
Warlock [Shadow caster npcs anyone?]
Rouge
[of course] they'll get a reason for worgen to be DK with some helpful lorebreaking. That doesn't count though.
Maybe the Draenei could teach the worgen about the elements and the elements would accept it. Maybe not. You can't really predict what the elements do beyond that they want to kill each other XD

So thats five not including the Death knight, and there is a possible sixth one that they can throw in, but I doubt that'll happen.

Becaus they've been turned into big, hairy wolves walking on two legs? Sounds like a reasonable reason to me, hehe. They would share a lot with both the blood elves and undead, history-wise (so much angst!) and the situation, also, if the area behind Greymane would be a starting point for them they can then easily continue out to level in Silverpine/Hillsbrad.

And as you said, why would Varian let a pack of (presumably) bloodthirsty wolf-men into his precious Alliance?

Though, I must say that if they do add new races, whichever they'd be, Ithink it would be more likely to be in the "neutral" fashion where you get to choose faction in some way.

Oh right... I never seriously thought about it that way, too busy thinking of reasons for Varian to even CONSIDER letting them in.. And they only helped the alliance once or twice, they didn't even leave their lands during the third war XD. This would probably help them in the horde more and actually keep them away from the Alliance. Varian can easilly say "Well, you pulled your support from us long ago and cut yourself off from the world. Screw you guys ;3"
They're more isolationist than the high elves were! You can't even spy on them from the seas thanks to them having high cliffs.
Wowwiki Wrote:High cliffs on the shores protect Gilneas from sailors' curious eyes. The Greymane Wall is the only evident site in Gilneas.

I'd actually be more OK roleplaying with worgen in the horde than alliance. The more I think about them being in the alliance, well...

I dunno, it doesn't seem very fun to roleplay with.

And, I would agree with you Nostra on the neutral race, but Blizzard stated [[at least I think they did]] that WoW will only have two player factions the whole time. While you could have your characters join the scryers or aldor you were still a part of your old faction and you didn't pit orc against orc, directly at least.

... Or did they? I never heard anything like that o_o

Maybe if blizzard decided to go lolore one more time, and make the worgen somehow purified.Like..they still have their wolf abilites ETC, but the curse which they had on them (?) was lifted from some Alliance guy and now they fight alongside them.Just my two coppers.

My thought for Varian not accepting worgen into the grand city of the alliance, would be he fears Gilneas going to war with them causing their war with the horde to be slowed down and well he lets DK's in why not Big hairy wolves.

Because the big hairy wolves would probably cause quite a bit of ruckus. In fact, I don't think any of the races except the gnomes [[They're pretty good-natured and fatherly to other races to start out with]], Draenei [[Also, good-natured]] and MAYBE the night elves [[Citing the Scythe of Elune and how Velinde wasn't totally appalled at the beasts. At least she did not say so in her diary.]]

An agreement where they will help each other mutually maybe, but they would not be allowed anywhere near Elwynn Forest, Khaz modan and probably not other places. Some help that will be huh?

ICly the best choice would be neutral-faction, but i'm not sure Blizzard will go against their rule of only two player factions. Lore they'd go against, but i'm not so sure about their rule XD.

Maybe if they diddn't look so beastly that they looked like they would eat people alive D: Just being near Elwynn would cause peasants to run in fear I think
