Quote:So, please everyone. Stop saying "If you want this RP, start some." It's NOT that easy all the time.

I agree with this so much it's not even funny. It's so very, very hard to start up RP when it goes against what's popular, that it can get quite aggravating. Nothing's worse that busting your butt to try to make some RP that suits what you want, only to not have anyone show up. It's honestly why I'm not around anymore, because I feel like if I try to do something everyone's gonna be too busy with their own thing.

Also, this server is so reliant on "Events", that casual RP for guilds is dead. Heaven help you if you want to have your guildmates try to spur on their own development for a while because you need a break in between holding events on a weekly basis---because people will quit and act like the guild never does anything. I know this first hand.

As another note... this is coming from someone that's watched from afar, if something gets ludicrously popular, it's gonna be the butt of some jokes. Elves, Worgen, what have you... it's gonna happen. Happened when Gnomes got popular, happened when undead got popular...

It's gonna happen guys. Part of being grown up is... being able to deal with it.

I kinda chuckle every time this thread pulls up. Why? Because does it -really- hurt your guys' feelings that much?
On a more serious note than cats wearing MSPaint-drawn shades, I feel I should point out something that I'd assume would be obvious.

If you've been playing the same race for a few years and you update to the next expansion with new races released, are you going to play the same type of characters you've played for years? Or are you going to see what the new races are like?

The majority will roll the new races. They're new. They're exciting. We have curiosities to satisfy. It isn't rocket science.

Rensin you're my bro but this sounds a bit condescending.

And further more I could say this about being upset no one shows up to your events or guild meetings. Are you upset, no. Not really. Does it effect your Real life. No. Is it annoying or a minor inconvenience when you log on to play a video game. Sure. Merit enough to talk about it. I think so sir.

As I said. It isn't easy, but it is -possible-.
What is up with people saying I sound condescending? Lol. That's defiantly not my intention, or the point I was trying to make. What I'm trying to say is that people shouldn't be so thin skinned about such things, because -really- all it does is lead to hurt feelings over nothing in reality.

It honestly sort of goes hand in hand with you saying I'm being condescending. If you look for reasons to be offended, it's really easy to become that way when it's -not- the person's intent. Honestly, often times I see these things it's meant as a harmless quip.

It's like... risking playing a Tauren. Prepare for hamburger and steak jokes, or the occassional "Are you horny" that people throw at you.

What I'm trying to convey---honestly in a non-condescending manner is for people to relax, and to quit reading into it.

Edit: Also, I've done something different with my feelings about guilds and whatnot---I've removed myself. Often people try to get angry in return to anger, but instead I've removed myself for a while until it gets better. I'm sure people -hate- that I talk from experience, but I do find that to be a better solution than to get mad in return. So much easier and less confrontational.
People will always joke about things. Especially the popular things, because there's usually a lot of good jokes to make on their expense. There's no reason to really take them to heart unless they're truly personal, in my mind. I've been in a position where I was extremely annoyed at all the humour had at the Blood Elves' expense and I can sometimes be irked by being brushed off with jokes when I do try to be serious about my Blood Elf who's in fact very confident in his male gender.

... But, most of these jokes are just for fun. They poke fun at the race and not at you as a person, most of the time. If they do indeed poke fun at you as a person and you're fed up, tell them (politely). Tell them, or turn to the GM team and we'll help you sort it out. No need to build up enough frustrations to warrant bumping this thread all over again.

Many of the jokes should just be able to be taken in stride. They get really tiresome after a while, and very annoying. But, you save yourself a lot of time and energy to just let them bounce off. Pretty much everyone's heard of the jokes and everyone's going to be just as happy to repeat it because it hasn't stopped being funny just because someone else told the same joke earlier the same day. They probably weren't present for it, so we can't really blame them for repeating the same thing again. To them, it's still funny.

People poke fun at eachother all the time. I guess I wish it could stay just that; fun.

Don't let it get to you, because it probably wasn't meant to in the first place.
A good rule of thumb is that when someone asks you to stop, you stop. It's all about respect, after all.

That's really all I wanted. My feelings aren't "hurt", I'm not mad. Just thought I'd ask before it snowballed, and people did get hurt.
That's it, I'm making a new policy - the only acceptable RP on CotH is now Orc RP. Any other racial RP is outlawed, and those who play non-orcs shall be hunted down and exterminated. Furthermore, to help ensure only orcs are RPed, all orcs will start with a racial enhancement to all stats and damage, in addition to an insta-gib Decapitate ability.

That is all.

Fonzie, that is all I have to say to this thread.
You can't take the Alliance from me, Kretol!

But seriously everyone's got valid points here.

Stop complaining about things you don't like.

Try to make RP- its hard, but still try.

Don't tell people they're not doing it right if they can't make RP- it isn't for everyone.

Making fun is only fun until someone gets mad. Then its no fun for everyone.

Instead of telling people "you should be more X" or "try more of Y", why not just be... considerate? To everyone? :V
So much rage in one thread. It's like the 4chan Brony Wars all over again. ._.

Probably shouldn't enter this conversation, but the respect rule... that (imo) goes both ways. You need to respect that the other person doesn't like BElves. Tell them that you respect their opinion but that you do like BElves and that you don't find the jokes funny. If they persist, tell someone.

As a bit of advice for those trying to start up rp (other than a shameless plug to the rp guide in my siggy), I offer one point from the guide and one based on the discussion.

1- I've seen your RP requests. Get more hyped over them! They don't need to be particularly funny or witty (though funny or witty helps), but at the least sound excited over the RP you want!

2- Embrace the individuality! You want Dwarf RP but a bunch of another race shows up? Show them a good time Dwarf style! This applies to any race. Take your character to the masses and show them why that type of RP can be fun! ThePharoah made a good point about meeting halfway as well, because it does provide a way for others to get to know the player, and ultimately can help get people interested in what you do.

I do highly agree with one of Rensin's points about how event-centric RP has become. And the core of that is the feeling that RP is so scarce or closed off that people only show up if the things they want to RP is advertised with a bright glowing sign. I've especially noticed this coinciding with the "I'm not idling in game so poke me on skype" trend, which even further denotes how far unannounced RP has dropped.

That said, finding RP is not nearly as impossible as it sounds. It takes a little more elbow grease, but I believe in you all!

Also, stop making fun of people's character races. Your character's race has a silly dance just like everyone else.
Since we're on these things...

What I've noticed is a disturbing trend of rude IC characters. It seems that if one player is going to be rude ICly, everyone jumps on that bandwagon and thinks "well hey they're doing it so can I!" which makes me wonder if at that point they're still playing their character. While I will say both of my main characters are not the shining examples of polite and friendly demeanor, both hating elves and humans respectively, I don't take it to a level of being a bully. Some RPs I've felt like this was the case.

Yes, I understand there is a clear separation of OOC and IC. However, on three separate occasions I've had this, and on all three occasions I've just wanted to up and leave because the RP is very uncomfortable and I just don't want to be there anymore. At some point there has to be some form of accountability. You should not be able to be a jerk and hide behind the excuse "but that's how my character is!" Well, one or two, sure, that's understandable, but an entire group is hard to believe. That falls under mob mentality, and that makes RP not fun when you've asked people to RP, get the RP started, and then you're singled out as a target for everyone to be ICly rude for whatever reason. It gets very uncomfortable to even want to start random RP because of a fear of that happening yet again. I wouldn't say this if I had it coming, I know the times I have it coming and think "Well that could have gone better" and rethink my characters behavior.
