Hmm 100% for the Dustwallow but maybe make it like several encampments connected instead of just one big one
Neat, I love the snowballing of ideas going on here. Definitely have a boardwalk with buildings on it. Maybe some "house" looking structures as apposed to shacks, we'd have to make it so it at least looks like some thugs would want to gather there, instead or Murlocs.

Having different branches of small gatherings of buildings would be great, maybe even a central little "strip" just wide and long enough to hold some duels. Kind of like western towns being close together in a long line and a wide road where shootouts always occur.

I just think it would be fun to have dead bodies in the center of town and the thought that comes to mind is "someone lost a duel" and step around the deceased (or over).

However the dueling thing is totally up in the air, as well as the strip of buildings.
I love the dueling idea think its great :P Dont know about the strip of buildings though cause its still in a sawmp and I dont think theres a big enough space above water for it
If the "town" has a tavern, it HAS to have swinging doors like in old westerns. And wanted posters. And stabled horses.
Well I don't want to go -too- western with it. Just enough elements so that when people walk down the road, others standing outside the buildings can stare them down and give them the "Who do you think you are" look.

I think we could use a few gondolas around the boardwalk. Make it look a little more eerie with those things in the water, either to go dumb dead bodies out in the water, or bring living ones in from ships and the like.
I really believe it should have a very swampy ghetto area. If anything, it should have an open tavern which is just a bar with shelter over the top of it and a few stools. Otherwise. . . Trolls ahoy! I can feel some awesome old school Troll RP happening.
It also need to be in an area where people can't say, "Whaaaaa how did you suddenly pop from Ratchet inn all the way over here?!" Because that can be a bit obviously odd at times.

I think Swamp of Sorrows would be better for a location though. It feels far away from everywhere important, while in Dustwallow, Theramore is right *there*. Why would your lawless town be built right in the middle of all these lawful people who'll stomp right over you? Plus, Dustwallow always felt like it was full of places and villages. Goblin, Alliance, Horde, Ogre, Tabitha, Onyxia, etc etc.
Yes, yes, yes. This idea is full of win.

The fact that nobody thought of this before, and that it is being taken very seriously, makes me love this server even more. My only suggestion is to place it somewhere that's not totally in the middle of nowhere - you'd need a reason to go there or pass through it, am i right? It needs to be in a spot that's not ridiculously far and also out of the law's reach at the same time. Like, smack in the middle of Tanaris, or as was suggested earlier in Swamp of Sorrows.
I quite like the idea, but I think it should be able to harbour both good and evil without causing too much drama! Although, obviously, none of the "i'm an evhulz warlock" sort. :P

One of the big things that make me hesitate is the amount of potential OOC drama this may generate. There's already a decent amount of it when it comes to character death - that said, it's usually the merit of 'character warnings' and whether Soandso should really have been given a warning and blah blah. With anyone being in this area being in a persistent danger of sudden combat/death, this could probably remove some of the drama, though I highly doubt many people will want to bring developed characters here unless they have a lot of friends.
Regardless, we can still give this a try.

I think people shouldn't be forced into a character warning here. Having a constant character warning will basically make it a place where hardly anybody RP"s, and when it first opens it will be a clusterfudge of people attacking each other.
I would hate to go to that area with one of my more developed characters and have them able to die at any moment. It's true. I don't think character warnings should be forced.
On the other hand, in the opposite extreme, we have bad characters doing extremely dumb things to known, violent and bloodthirsty characters with no comeuppance because their player won't consent to a character warning. I was going to suggest it earlier and now Kretol's mentioned it, I can't help but agree. Going there doesn't mean you'll die instantly, and it's not like people can stop you from running away if you pull it off well.

To elaborate, you don't touch fire and not expect to get burned, which you can do pretty much freely on this server. Having a place excluded from this would be nice.
I think character warnings should be forced. Because that's the whole point. If you want to go to a rough area without a forced char warning go to Ratchet or Booty bay. This is for strictly outlaw, grungy town. Even for developed chars they would know "hmm. maybe this isn't the best idea to be here. Because people die...a lot." I think it should be a enter at your own risk period. IF you get killed, that's how you went out. If it's a tear jerker death just rez that boy or girl.

I like the idea, I thought a similar idea was proposed but shot down by the staff. I'm glad to see this starting to take motion. Also this can lead to hostile yet non death RP like good ol' fashioned bar fights, muggings and things like that. People don't have to die. I say an ass whopping is a guarantee though. Just don't complain about being jumped, gangs/clicks or rude IC people and this should open up a well needed avenue on an already versatile server. Just my opinion though.
